Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: July 2011

Yesterday I attended the Starworks London Resort 2012 press preview in London.

The showcased designers included Peter Pilotto, Nicholas Kirkwood, Lucy in Disguise, Marios Schwab, Jonathan Saunders, Tucker and Roksanda Ilincic.

Peter Pilotto continues to give us strong digital prints which buyers can’t snap up quickly enough. The collection also includes some colour-block pieces.

We don’t see the designer enough on the red carpet. Hopefully this Resort 2012 collection will be a huge hit with starlets.

I have attended a few press previews hosted by Starworks, but on this occasion I was presented with more Nicholas Kirkwood heels than ever before.

The most interesting pair were the wedges above which are part of a collaboration between Nicholas Kirkwood and Keith Haring. The shoe designer dedicated a one-off couture line to the Pop Artist after being inspired by his work.

Other pieces within the collection include the pearl accented pumps which continue to be a style favoured by buyers. This style was available as a peep-toe a few seasons ago.

I really loved the acid yellow range which had a neon pink overlay. I can imagine stars like Rihanna, Fergie and Katy Perry snapping these up.

I found the deliberate kink in some of the heels really interesting. You can see this on the turquoise lace ups below.

For those of you who don’t like high heels, Kirkwood has created some flat sandals, moccasins and metallic brogues. Read more…

Ashley Tisdale attended the Miu Miu Presents Lucrecia Martel’s “Muta” event, which was held at a private residence in Beverly Hills, California last night.

She didn’t wear a Miu Miu dress.

The actress opted for a cream coloured ASOS sleeveless dress which has a Peter Pan collar, a fitted waist and a full gathered skirt.

Her Miu Miu touch came via suede Bordeaux Miu Miu Mary Jane peep-toes with a bow accent.

It may not be Miu Miu, but it was one of the cutest looks of the night.

Jayma Mays looked super chic and on-trend in a purple Rebecca Minkoff outfit the Shop In Shop event in LA to celebrate the designer at Confederacy in LA last night.

She wore a fitted Rebecca Minkoff ‘Becky’ jacket and a Rebecca Minkoff puckered skirt.

Her accessories included an Elegantly Waisted orange snakeskin belt, a Rebecca Minkoff black crocodile clutch and black Jimmy Choo peep-toes.

Jayma chatted to me about what she loves about Rebecca Minkoff; sharing that she loves the bright, happy colours in the collection. She thinks Rebecca does the best pieces in flattering prints, which she’s found hard to find.

The ‘Glee’ actress and her stylist Ilaria Urbinati were kind enough share some insights on Jayma’s style:

On her favourite designers: “Burberry, Reem Acra, Brian Reyes, Brian Atwood shoes and Ippolita jewelry.”

On her favourite fashion moments: “Custom Burberry Prorsum at the 2010 Emmys , a chartreuse Brian Reyes dress at the Costume Designers Guild Awards and the outfit I wore to Fox’s All-Star Party 2010, which was just a cute plaid shirt with a hunter green skirt, neon yellow belt and gold Jimmy Choo’s. It was a fun look!”

On how her style changed since moving from Virginia to Los Angeles: “In Virginia I would wear jeans, vintage t-shirts and flip-flops all the time, it was horrible! I was just trying to look cute with no money so it was either Converse or flip flops. Now I feel like, if you have the opportunity to dress up, why not? I hardly ever do jeans anymore.”

Ilaria Urbinati describes Jayma’s style: “Jayma has really good personal taste, so that makes it easy! It’s quite East Coast Preppy, but now we’re a little dressier.”

On her summer essentials: “A Kate Spade basket weave bag that has a black bow on it that I carrying everything in – I use it almost every day, black ballet flats that are just classic and I can’t get enough of crisp white button-up shirts that are so essential because I can just throw them on and not think too much about it.”

Kate Mara joined a host of stars who attended the Miu Miu Presents Lucrecia Martel’s “Muta” event, which was held at a private residence in Beverly Hills, California last night.

It still really hard to shake Kate’s 2011 SAG Awards mishap, but with each subsequent red carpet appearance the horrific memory is closer to being fully erased – yes I’m still struggling to get over it 6 months on.

Kate looked divine wearing a Miu Miu Fall 2011 look.

It didn’t appear on the runway, but her blouse with a contrasting collar and daisy print mini skirt with an outside pocket bares all the hallmarks of the Miu Miu modern vintage collection.

With her red hair pulled back into a tight ponytail, Kate accessorizes with a purple Prada clutch and black Miu Miu pumps with a chunky heel.

Sandals would’ve been sweeter, but the pumps aren’t too bad I suppose.

Last night, I attended Rebecca Minkoff’s Shop in Shop/Summer Cocktails event at LA’s hip clothing store Confederacy.

Co-hosts Rebecca Minkoff and Agyness Deyn mingled with guests who browsed the newest collection of bags, shoes, clothes and accessories whilst sipping on yummy Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Rosé drinks.

In attendance were some of Young Hollywood’s finest, including Lauren Conrad, Shenae Grimes, Katie Cassidy, Jayma Mays and Busy Philips. Ashton Kutcher, Giovanni Ribisi and Chris Pine rounded out the men who came out to support their friend Danny Masterson, who co-owns Confederacy.

Rebecca’s cool collection of bags run the gamut from mini studded clutches in traffic light red and turquoise blue to cross-body bags in bright orange and stone grey featuring zippers and oversized tassels. I fell in love with her iPad and laptop cases, especially a turquoise one reading ‘nerd alert’ in fun gold writing. Read more…

Before her next concert date, Rihanna was spotted departing her hotel in New York City Monday evening wearing more clothes than she was the last time we saw her.

On this occasion she opted to wear a Cushnie Et Ochs Pre-Fall 2011 dress.

She styled her dress with a military green cap to the side, shades and Vans sneakers.

You may recognise this dress, because it has been worn twice before on the red carpet by Teresa Palmer and Rihanna’s frenemy Ciara.
