Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge In Diane von Furstenberg – British Consul-General Private Reception

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William were the guests of honor at a private reception held at the British Consul-General’s residence in LA on Friday evening.

Still wearing the same nude pumps, Catherine changed into a Diane von Furstenberg ‘Maja’ green silk dress.

An exotic Diane von Furstenberg Lytton snakeskin clutch added a remarkable contrast to her look.

This is a great colour for the Duchess; I hope we see more colourful looks from her as I’m on navy, beige, grey overload.

Something tells me this won’t be the last DVF dress we see from Catherine on this tour.

Catherine’s dress is available from Saks.com, Matches Fashion and Boutique1.com

I dont think there will be one for a while. We will probably have to wait for the opening of Parliament to get a tiara in there :/

    Dear fashion critic
I don’t understand why you keep posting theses pics of Kate Middleton,it is everytime the same conservative look over and over again. I am over htis look and I think she does look great.. But it is nothing special. Please stop this madnes obsession with the royal family..
    xoxo lilili

    • Fashion Critic July 9, 2011 at 13:12 #

      Dear Lilili,

I’m not sure if you are aware, but this is a fashion news celebrity website.

My job is to cover fashion as it happens, as worn by celebrities.

Kate is a celebrity, she is wearing clothes which people are interested to know about, therefore I am fulfilling by obligation to my readers and my job description.

For you to say I’m a royal obsessive is a tad ridiculous. This tour is like any other tour. See Cameron Diaz for Bad Teacher, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley for Transformers and Emma Watson for HP7

Your request is totally unfair so sorry but I will not be able to oblige you on this occasion.

      Kind regards,

      Catherine aka Fashion Critic

        • Fashion Critic July 9, 2011 at 15:39 #

I really wasnt offended at all.

You are very much entitled to have your opinion.

        • Fashion Critic July 9, 2011 at 17:01 #

          It is my pleasure.

Whilst this is my site, I do have to cater for all.

Glad you are continuing to enjoy the site x

        • mikeijames July 9, 2011 at 22:38 #

i agree with this, fc! i love your coverage of the duchess! keep it up!

      • moja31 July 9, 2011 at 20:12 #

I was hoping you’d cover some of Europe’s other reigning houses on your site from time to time, there are a lot of young princesses out there who do actually take some fashion risks and have fun with fashion.

    • robbie July 9, 2011 at 14:08 #

catherine/FC can report on whatever she likes as it is her website. no one is forcing anyone to look at certain posts she has made.

      • Ahot July 10, 2011 at 09:10 #

AMEN to that Robbie! She will cover or CEASE to cover whoever she wants, no blame whatsoever. #moving on….

  6. Jen F July 9, 2011 at 12:49 #

Gorgeous!! This and the Roksanda Illincic dress are the kind of looks I’ve been hoping for!! Great accessories! I’m so pleased she’s traded L.K. Bennett for Rupert Sanderson.

  7. Linda July 9, 2011 at 12:59 #

Love it. She looks amazing in green. Now please just get a more interesting pair of shoes. We know
she can afford it and there are lots of shops in L.A….. :)

  8. Naomi July 9, 2011 at 13:34 #

    It’s…. OK.
I’m not sure if this shade of green matches her.
Her complexion and hair have warm tones, but this is a very ‘cold’ green, or at least it seems that way in the pics.
I’d love to see her in forest green!

    • sage July 9, 2011 at 16:12 #

I agree. Great to see her out of the blue and ivory but I don’t like this shade at all. And she clashes horribly with her best accessory ~ The Duke. ♥

      • Naomi July 9, 2011 at 22:50 #

        LOL, a great accessory indeed.
        :D

  9. DivaMom July 9, 2011 at 13:47 #

GREAT that she’s wearing more color, PITY that she still wants to look like an old lady. And those shoes…….le’sigh………..

    • Pati July 9, 2011 at 19:43 #

      Agreed

  10. Jackie July 9, 2011 at 14:01 #

The Duchess of Cambridge looks beautiful! She understands the importance of clothing in her new role. Her Royal Highness is polished and glows with presence befitting every occasion. Please keep up the excellent coverage!

    Thank you.

    • Fashion Critic July 9, 2011 at 14:12 #

      I will x

  11. Elaine2 July 9, 2011 at 14:08 #

I like the green on her, and the back with the “v” and buttons going up look up nice. It looks like a comfortable dress to wear, but I’d probably switch the belt for something else to jazz it up alittle. Don’t really care for that clutch and shoes with this dress, though……

  12. Nat39 July 9, 2011 at 15:34 #

Very nice, I really like it. The nude pumps actually work with this dress (unlike the previous grey pleated one ) really well, so does the snakeskin clutch.

  13. moja31 July 9, 2011 at 16:06 #

see kate, color doesn’t have to be that hard! though i don’t quite love this exact shade of green on her. and a giant ugh to william’s tie.
oh and pretty please, put away your nude pumps. I’m sick of seeing them on pretty much everyone and their mom.

  14. asherlev1 July 9, 2011 at 16:44 #

Great color, still nothing special on her. I still remember that green Goat mini dress Victoria Beckham wore and how simple it was but how much more it excited me than this. I digress.

    • Marybeth July 9, 2011 at 19:09 #

      LOL.
Perhaps the duchess should have shed the belt, cut 10 inches off the hem, tousled her mane, donned $500 sunglasses, and wiped the smile off her face! (I guess she could still keep the nude pumps since that is what VB wore with her dress too.)

  15. kiwi July 9, 2011 at 16:50 #

Lovely.. so happy that she is wearing colours

  16. kimi July 9, 2011 at 18:52 #

Sometimes I wish she had a little fun with her outfits…and I know she’s always wearing the same shoes, but I’ll be shocked one day when she does something dramatic and nice. Every dress has the same cut and style. My mind is thinking she’s wearing the same dress everyday. But I did like this dress today. Green looks divine on her.

  17. Lee Ann July 9, 2011 at 19:49 #

How come the dress that is posted below the picture of the Duchess has more umpf ? Just saying.

  18. Rebecca Z July 9, 2011 at 19:55 #

Yep, this could be a lot less boring–a different belt, or even this belt tied in a more interesting way.

  19. Paige July 9, 2011 at 19:56 #

lots of websites just post bits and pieces of looks from certain celebrities, I come to your site because you have the best all round coverage and even if it’s not a celeb I’d usually check up on I’m always entertained :) x

    • Fashion Critic July 9, 2011 at 21:12 #

      Glad o hear it.

      Thank you x

  20. Sharon July 9, 2011 at 20:04 #

I really like the style and color of this dress. She looks lovely, and I would kill to have hair like hers.

  21. Emi July 9, 2011 at 20:43 #

I’m not a fan of green clothes, but this dress is cute, I like how DVF can design simple and feminine dresses. I also think she looks conservative and quite boring as usual, because conservative and boring is her style. I still don’t understand why she never carry and handbag, even a small one. She keeps on choosing little purses and clutches. I’m tired of her, too, you’re not alone Lilili. FC, I love this blog and I really respect your job, but I think you’re a bit “obsessed” with her, just because she’s famous now it doesn’t mean that there’s the need to post every single look from her. But this is my opinion and the blog is yours…

    • Fashion Critic July 9, 2011 at 21:12 #

I’m not “obsessed” with her. I really don’t like this title and I’m actually quiet offended that you have said that as her style is muted and one note for my personal tastes.

Every single fashion site is cover ALL her looks, I’m not any different.

She is on Tour, it not like I posting her going to the supermarket.

  22. NH July 9, 2011 at 21:35 #

she wears decent clothes but she doesn’t give me the wow factor :(
i dont think she can be considered a fashion icon like Princess Diana
what do you think FC? Do u consider her a fashion icon?

    • Fashion Critic July 9, 2011 at 21:43 #

I dont consider her an icon.

She’s been around for 5 mins.

The term fashion icon, is used very loosely these days.

There was a time when people use to earn that title, now Willow Smith is considered a fashion icon.

      • Lisa July 10, 2011 at 00:59 #

        LOL omg so true

      • Elaine2 July 10, 2011 at 01:32 #

Willow Smith a fashion icon? Unbelieveable!!! LOL….

Kate may become a fashion icon someday, but she’s got a long way to go. What cracks me up is that she has a loyal following who absolutely LOVES everything she wears. I find it really funny. Like you, FC, I like a little more daring style than Kate’s “safe” looks. If I was in her situation I’d be having a ball with fashion and would not be doing what she’s been doing on this tour. That said, I am interested in her gala event ensemble for tonight! But, as Alexander Wang alledgedly said, “Anyone can get dressed up and glamorous, but it is how people dress in their days off that are the most intriguing. “……

I think Kate’s casual outfits were pretty lame. Maybe tomorrow those red JBrand jeans will present themselves! LOL.

FC, thanks for your site. I really love it!
        xxoo

        • Fashion Critic July 10, 2011 at 10:36 #

          thank you Elaine xxx

      • Hannah July 10, 2011 at 02:26 #

Oh my goodness, I so agree. The term icon is used too much and for every form of the arts, particularly fashion. Good one with Willow Smith! A reference to Vogue’s american ‘fashion icons’ possibly?

      • NH July 10, 2011 at 03:25 #

the thing is that she is gonna be around more than 5 mins and the worse part is how media is already making her a fashion “icon”.

your right the term is used VERY loosely these days.

Willow smith is a fashion icon??? How? lol
no offense but she is just a little kid

  23. mikeijames July 9, 2011 at 22:39 #

i love that she’s sporting an american designer for her time here in america. i love that these extremely modern and high profile women have learned to communicate so much with their wardrobe choices. michelle obama really set the bar high and i must say that a lot of other women have followed suit!

  24. Hannah July 10, 2011 at 02:30 #

Although I find her painfully boring almost all the time, despite the fact she wears colour (suffering from Jeniffer Aniston syndrome? Black, Nude, Navy, Nude pumps, same hairstyle all the damn time…..) I find William’s style even more boring. I find it sad that she should make an effort and he turned up wearing this hideous clashing suit. I really hope we see him in some tom ford, that would be amazing.

  25. Mary July 10, 2011 at 03:41 #

She looks so beautiful in color! This green is perfect. But looking at her head on I want to give her a nice big slice of pie…or maybe the top part is baggy and making her look so thin….

  26. pam July 10, 2011 at 03:47 #

I know a lot of you want to see a little more fashion flair from Kate, but I kind of love the fact that she is a practical princess. Simple clothes in coordinating colors and comfortable shoes that go with most every outfit just makes so much sense when you are traveling.

  27. jK July 10, 2011 at 04:51 #

Of all the DVF creations, she picked a solid …
well … at least it is bright color

  28. Mercy July 10, 2011 at 07:14 #

YES ! Though I hope she retires those pumps soon.

  29. Ahot July 10, 2011 at 09:31 #

On a fun note, she really doesn’t have a bum, does she? She is barely there. not good

  30. Laura July 10, 2011 at 20:43 #

    omg!!!!!!! she’s skinny as letizia!!!
