It’s Oscar night on the red carpet for the World Premiere of “Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2″ which is taking place in London’s Trafalgar Square tonight.
I guess the theme as ‘go big or stay home.’
J. K Rowling normally fades into the background, but it looks like she’s going out with a bang for this final instalment of the Harry Potter franchise.
Like Emma Watson J.K. Rowling also opted for Oscar de la Renta, but her gown was from the Spring 2011 collection.
The green silk faille gown with a sweetheart neckline has beautiful pink carnation appliqué embroidered details.
I love how she complements those details with pink accessories including an oversized ring, dazzling Bulgari earrings and a rectangular clutch.
I’m glad to see some dramatic gowns on the red carpet after 3 days of feasting on Couture.

very interesting. she’s a beautiful woman and i think she pulls it off quite well. her make up looks flawless!
i really do not like this dress at all. the pattern looks like it belongs on some ghastly curtains or bedding. it just looks cheap to me.
i do love her accessories, though.
Though the pattern and details seems very matronly and fit for a grandma’s house, I think she pulled this look off quite well, especially with the accessories.
I think she pulled it off remarkably well.
I never expected to see this on the red carpet so bravo to her
+1
JK’s looks like a different shade of green. I like runway’s darker green than JK’s pea green. She is working it though and this is the best I have ever seen her look!
That could be down to the lighting; one indoors under heavy lights, one outdoors under more natural light with spotlights
I’m sorry, I can’t. This is not her dress. Wrong cut, a bit busy and the styling is verging on silly. The pink accessories make it worse. A dark green clutch referencing the stems of the flowers would have lowered the Barbie-factor considerably.
Agree she looks like a sofa
Perhaps this dress is unphotogenic and believe it looks amazing in real life! I LOVE the drama and at the same frivolity of it!
It was amazing in real life when I saw it on the runway.
I was thinking the same thing about this dress. She looks nice and it is a fun look.
Horrendous!
Doesn’t look good on her figure. She is too wide-waisted.
Ugliest dress I’ve ever seen.

Haha, I actually quite like the bedding!
so did I lol
I agree, it’s one of the ugliest dress I’ve ever seen. It’s ugly on model, off the runway is embarrassing.
not the kind of dress you expect to see on the red carpet but still gorgeous
i just love that dress.. she looks beautiful on it.. good surprise!
I LOVE it. On anyone else I would hate it, but it works for JKR.
agreed
I appreciate Rowling’s desire to wear something big and fun, but this is a bad choice. (The only woman over 35 I can think of who could REALLY pull this dress off is Eva Mendes.)
I do think Rowling overcomes the potential silliness with her sleek grooming, though, so the end result is not so bad.
I agree with FC. Oscar de la Renta dresses aren’t always the easiest to pull off, and although there are comments that it does nothing to flatter her figure, it would look the same on the model if she didnt have her hands cinching her waist to make it look more fitted. I love the accessories she added and I think her hair looks very polished and good. I think she looks great here. Good job JK
I do like this look and with the wrong accesories this could have failed, but I love it
I was actually with a fried, who si a huge harry potter fan, watchign some of the cars go in and she fortunately had either her window rolled down or untinted glass, either way I jsut have to say she is truly stunning, her hair and makeup were perfection and her earrings were divine. I love this choice from her, it seems in keeping with the film, that beign said I haven’t seen a harry potter film since mayb ethe fifth ro the fourth one, so I might be making that up.
Terrible.
She looks like she’s wrapped a curtain around herself. Not a good look.
I know this is unrelated, but what the hell did Rupert do to his hair? He looks ridiculous!
Unrelated but I actually I think it looks good. Anyway he had to cut his hair for a movie he did in april.
This dress would work if the fabric just had some drape to it. A nice, flowy silk would have worked.. As it is, it sort of reminds me of the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland – you know, the one with the cardboard dress. Too bad, because I like the color and print.
That has to be one of the most unflattering looks, ever (this year)..
i get a bit of a traditional korean dress vibe from it ;D
it looks like she knocked it up herself the night before. it looks so cheap on her, would have also looked nicer if she had shortened it just a little bit.
Rupert Grint’s croc print jacket is from Emporio Armani SS2011. I featured it before!
It’s actually a really nice suit.
Daniel is in Simon Spurr
How unfortunate! This dress is amazingly unflattering on both her and the model, and I detest the pattern, which feels like a mix between a bad prom dress and granny’s curtains.
Rowlings has a hot body, I wish she’d flaunted it rather than going for this distaster of a creation.
I do, however, like her hair, make-up and jewellery.
I think de la Renta dress rooks like a tea cozy on the runway already, so if it doesn’t photograph well you can see it and opt out. Very unflattering for otherwise good-looking JK
agree. it’s a brave choice, and she owns it too in some way but i think she’d look so amazing in a well-cut, structured pant suit, the kind Gwyneth Paltrow wears so well.
Ugly dress.
It’s a brave choice and I like people who make brave choices.
I like it but it makes her look a bit frumpy.
Oh and Rihanna wore a white and red version of this dress to an award show btw.
Yep, that’s already been written and scheduled for next week
Hi FC, sorry I know this post was almost a week ago now, but I just realised, while flicking through this month’s vogue, that her earrings must be Bulgari, since they are the exact same ones, or seem to be, that Kirsten Dunst wears in her ad campaign for them! http://www.glamcheck.com/fashion/2011/04/08/kirsten-dunst-bulgari-jasmin-noir-fragrance/
Of all the dresses she could have worn she had to choose that one?
