Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge In Alexander McQueen – Charlottetown Visit

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge joined husband Prince William for a ceremony at Province House in Charlottetown, Canada today.

She opted for a nautical-inspired Alexander McQueen cream cable-knit dress with navy piping, which she teamed with navy Prada heels; which have had several outings during this trip.

Most of Catherine’s dresses have matched her sapphire engagement ring, but on this occasion she wore matching sapphire earrings.

Those of you crying out for a ponytail got your wish as the Duchess opted for a long curled ponytail.

Well that’s the least boring outfit of their American Tour! She looks good, but a bit skinny…

    • VB Lover July 5, 2011 at 01:16 #

I thought this look really accentuated how tiny/skinny she is– she has no shape at all! I hope she gains some of that weight back soon, she used to have a great figure!

  2. Barbara July 4, 2011 at 21:40 #

Sooooo much better!!! Now I wish for a fresher make up hehe she really doesn’t need that heavy eye liner…

  3. Camille July 4, 2011 at 21:42 #

I’m so bored with her I can’t even stand it!!!

    • Nolli July 4, 2011 at 22:13 #

      So am I !!!! Boring, boring, boring…..

      • Kate July 4, 2011 at 23:15 #

Boredom level is increasing but she probably is scared to take risk because if went wrong the media slagging would be so huge.

        • anamika July 5, 2011 at 15:39 #

          @Barbara/Camille/Nolli/Kate
I’ll love to see how beautiful do you all 4 look?

If the world was filled with boring and badly dressed women looking like Kate…..I’ll love to live in that world!
          excuse meeeee

    • cartouche July 5, 2011 at 15:51 #

      seconded.. YAWN!

      • Kate July 5, 2011 at 19:20 #

That most definately is a valid opinion, different tastes for different people i guess, but i believe theres nothing wrong w/ some fashion risks even mistakes in this world! And I never said she was badly dressed! I also alluded to the pressure shes under from the media scrutiny, cant be easy for her.

SJP wore the same dress in purple a few years ago and looked more interesting

    • Fashion Critic July 4, 2011 at 23:27 #

      I owe you large.

      Thanks so much xxxx

    • Clover July 5, 2011 at 00:52 #

      Great spotting Voguette!

  5. D July 4, 2011 at 21:59 #

disappointed. she could have anything she wants….. but always so safe

A pair of slightly more modern/youthful shoes would have made a big difference. A pair of wedges perhaps?
It’s all a bit mumsy for me, I’m 27 and wouldn’t think of wearing something like this (although I’m a big fan of McQueen). It’s weird but I get more inspiration looking at older women (like M.Obama, V.Beckham, K.Winslet) than Catherine who’s practically the same age as me…

    • Barbara July 4, 2011 at 22:31 #

Not weird. I feel the same hehe

  7. molly July 4, 2011 at 22:08 #

Boring. This would be perfect for the queen. It looks like a grandma outfit. I love her hair though.

  8. slashdot July 4, 2011 at 22:23 #

For Pete’s sake! She’s not on a catwalk, she doesn’t exist to satisfy your fashion interest, her taste is obviously different than yours. Plus, she’s just getting used to being constantly on the spotlight. Why should it be mandatory for her (a future queen, apparently) to take risks, to be bold etc. She’s not Michelle Obama, or an actress, or a singer, she’s the Duchess of Cambridge. Give her a break, give her time to adjust. Stop complaining so much, people…

    • Fashion Critic July 4, 2011 at 22:35 #

I think everyone is entitled to their opinions.

    • Mario July 4, 2011 at 23:01 #

Exactly, she IS the Duchess of Cambridge, and she’s in the spotlight right now touring the world, which means she IS supposed to wear more entertaining/fabulous/(less boring?) outfits to satisfy the crowd. That’s all people want to see when she shows up, they don’t want to see her wearing a grandma dress and a pair of pumps.

      • slashdot July 4, 2011 at 23:38 #

You know, I didn’t mean to cause a controversy. I would just like to read something more that “boring” each time I check out the comment section when it comes to her outfits.
I wish people were less judgmental because it must be tough for a low profile person (till recently) to give up on her personal style and entertain through her outfits. Maybe she hasn’t quite realised how how off putting her “grandma dresses” are.

        • Mario July 5, 2011 at 02:33 #

I do understand that and I completely agree about how things rapidly changed in her life and she obviously can’t keep up with her title, since she still wears Zara dresses that she had bought 3 years ago. But what puzzles me is does she even have stylists to take care of her, which she actually should? Because if she does, then they should be fired. Seriously.

          • Fashion Critic July 5, 2011 at 06:15 #

From what I have read she doesn’t have stylists/advisors, but she did for this trip.

Which makes it even more puzzling that everything is so one dimensional

        • Mario July 5, 2011 at 16:05 #

Yeah, I also read about all the arrangements with the designers about choosing the “perfect” looks for the trip, but I am seriously underwhelmed by how plain everything turned out. Can someone please explain me what the word perfect means to these people?

    • justme July 4, 2011 at 23:18 #

Noone is asking her to be bold. You can be classic without aging yourself.

  9. syl July 4, 2011 at 22:24 #

    boooooooooooring

    • Alina July 5, 2011 at 10:08 #

      +1

  10. moja31 July 4, 2011 at 22:40 #

this looks like something players used to wear at wimbledon in the 40s. someone fetch the dutchess her racquet!

  11. Gigi July 4, 2011 at 22:46 #

Almost hard to believe this is AMcQ it is so “staid”.

On the other hand, I think they are doing splendidly on what looks like a solid week of smiles. And more smiles. I bet her face will ache after this is over.

And when I see all the events they are attending, I say kudos for such an undertaking right after marrying.

  12. Raquel July 4, 2011 at 22:46 #

I like the dress, I really do. I think the ponytail could have been smoother and have a more mordern feeling, so to speak. I think what could really chenge her looks are the assessories.

    • Sandie July 4, 2011 at 23:50 #

I was watching it live and the weather was really bad. Wind and rain didn’t help her hair look smoother, I think..

  13. Marvel July 4, 2011 at 23:01 #

    Very cricket-y
Im dying for her to wear a flouncy skirt rather than these pencil-like dresses. Even VB would pass on them

  14. Lucía July 4, 2011 at 23:02 #

This is something a but different form her :)

  15. Elaine July 4, 2011 at 23:06 #

I like the dress – it seems sort of Chanel-like in a way. It’s fun!
Her casual jeans outfit later in the day was good too – now we’re getting somewhere! LOL

  16. Zineb July 4, 2011 at 23:15 #

Boringggggggggg !!!! The girl really needs to check on this blog or to have some fashion advices from style.com cause none of her outfits were exciting except the white & red one

  17. Sandie July 4, 2011 at 23:52 #

I usually like what she wears but I don’t like this dress.
Thank God, she didn’t keep it for long and she later changed into something more casual and I really enjoyed her!

  18. Jennifer July 5, 2011 at 00:02 #

You all have to remember, she’s a future Queen, not a Hollywood starlet. She’s also NOT her mother-in-law. She and Wills are obviously going for the more stable English couple and trying to downplay the tumultuous days of Wills parent’s marriage.

    • Jennie July 5, 2011 at 08:39 #

you have a good point. the media was on a FRENZY with diana’s style… and it created lots of commercial profit. diana herself later saw the shallowness in it and focused onto more meaningful works.

personally i kinda wish and hope catherine would stay true to her personal style and wear whatever that inspires her and makes her comfortable in her own skin. this style, of course will grow and evolve throughout the years, but i really wish that she wouldn’t conform, just because some fashionistas are crying out the word: “boring”.

there are many glizzy celebrities out there, but very few who can remain true to themselves after exposure to the media and the spotlight.

conformity for the sake of fashion is not real style.

i also wish peace for the couple!

  19. Vee July 5, 2011 at 01:12 #

the knit looks like it’s so soft. and i do love her earrings. this is within her boring warehouse but again not everyone is michelle obama and loves print and bright colors.

  20. Godiva July 5, 2011 at 04:07 #

She sure loves her navy blue and cream…call me when she wears something interesting…

  21. Sharon July 5, 2011 at 04:08 #

While I’m not thrilled with all of Kate’s choices, I remember Princess Diana going through a long period of really awful clothing before she found her own style. The Duchess may not have Diana’s sense of style yet, but neither did Diana at this point.
This dress is one I really like, but I wish there were just one bit of bright color somewhere.

  22. Verena July 5, 2011 at 05:25 #

The dress is nice enough (I wouldn’t want to wear it but I see why Kate would) but someone needs to talk to Sarah Burton. This is not something that should have a McQueen label in it. Look at how shoddy and uneven that hem line is!

    • Vicky July 5, 2011 at 07:05 #

Sarah Burton is not to “blame” for this.
The dress is from a collection several years ago, SJP wore a navy version five years ago (see new WWIB post)

      • Verena July 5, 2011 at 14:51 #

I saw that *after* writing my comment! Still incomprehensible why it hangs so badly. And Sarah still gets a little blame for digging it out again ;-)

  23. Lee Ann July 5, 2011 at 09:43 #

boring. dull. I was scrolling down this morning looking at your new postings and saw the cream Joseph dress (nice but dull) then saw Olivia in her great yellow dress and thought “now thats style! ” then came back to earth with sailor Kate. Dreadful. So dull.

  24. Megan July 5, 2011 at 09:52 #

Please straighten up.Posture is important girl!!!

  25. Betty Brandenburg July 5, 2011 at 09:59 #

Astonishing: you can wear McQueen and it still ages you. It’s her, not the clothes she’s wearing, folks, I’m telling you!
