Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: June 2011

Last week I attended the first Chanel Resort press day in London.

The collection was the first resort collection to be presented back in early May at the Hotel du Cap, in Antibes on the French Riviera.

I got a chance to see a few select pieces including bags, shoes, jewelry, jackets, the thong boots, beachwear, day dresses, evening wear and pear embellished gown which would be perfect for the red carpet or a Gala.

The accessories – as always – caught my eye. I was particularly taken with the mini black top handle bag along with the array of sequin clutches.

I keep marveling at the attention to detail. I loved all the embellishments such as pearls, sequins, floral appliqués and beaded details. They really add a lot to the selected pieces.

Pearl accented necklaces with the trademark logo draped on the mannequins along with fine jewelry including watches, rings, cuffs and bracelets.

The room perfectly captured the essence of the French Riviera with pebbles stones and sea blue deck chairs.

So far only Clemence Poesy and Kirsten Dunst have worn looks from this collection.

I would love to see that ivory backless dress on Cate Blanchett.

My current girl crush Rose Byrne was in New York City last night for the “Damages” Season 4 Premiere.

She looked divine as always wearing a Valentino Fall 2011 dress.

The lace long sleeve nude dress with multi-coloured floral appliques is gorgeous on Rose. Her dark colouring makes it the perfect choice.

She accessorized with a chocolate coloured belt, a silver Kotur clutch and Gio Diev ‘Nikko II’ soft grey leather pumps with silver asymmetrical detail and silver blade heel.

I love everything about this soft romantic look, but I’m not a fan of the deep berry lip colour.

Whilst she’s wearing a Fall dress, we are still in summer so softer lighter lipshade would’ve been preferred.

Whilst most designers have been concentrating on producing Resort 2012 lines, Victoria Beckham has been working on a new dress collection.

Victoria by Victoria Beckham is a new dress line aimed at a younger demographic or those like me who are unable to buy a dress for £2k from her mainline collection.

The designer was said to be inspired by the cartoon character Emily the Strange.

Victoria wanted to produce this collection to represents her “other side,” the alter ego to her more glamorous style.

“These are the kind of dresses I’ve been searching for,” she admits. “The perfect little summer dress, something that was fun, something that was girly, something that was easy to wear, something that would take you from day through the night.”

The girlishness and whimsy come through in the clean, 60s shapes; vibrant colours and design details, such as scalloped edges and pleating.

The great news is that the collection is due to retail between the $550 to $900 price ranges, so we can expect this to sell out even quicker than the mainline collection.

Victoria intends to make quite a fuss when this collection launches. She hints that she may do a series of major appearances and she may also may plan an event in conjunction with London Fashion Week.

I hope by then Hailee Steinfeld will be free to be the face of this line, because it appears to be made for her.

Leighton Meester was the first celebrity to snap up a look from Giambattista Valli’s Spring 2011 collection when she wore this dress to the 27th Annual Night of Stars in New York back in October.

Leighton’s version of the draped, silk crepe dress features a two-tone colour block in nude and white, instead of the runway version of nude and orange.

The actress paired her look with the vintage Van Cleef & Arpels jewels.

She completed her look with a gold clutch, navy blue satin pumps and pink lipgloss.

French actress Ludivine Sagnier opted to wear the runway version of the dress when she attended a screening of her movie “The Devil’s Double” earlier this week in Los Angeles.

She chose to accessorize with a pair of strappy nude heels and a single gold bracelet and wear her hair down in loose waves. She also added gold eyeshadow to her look.

Whilst Leighton styled this look perfectly, I’m not a fan of her shoe choice.

Ludivine’s was more complementary but her overall grooming lets her down, so Leighton wins for me.

Most Resort collections are only showcased via Look Books on Style.com, but Salvatore Ferragamo presented their Resort 2012 collection in some style in New York City yesterday.

The presentation took place at the James B. Duke Mansion, which is the former home of glamorous American heiress, Doris Duke.

Their front row was just as glamorous as the Fifth Avenue location, as Eva Mendes, Freida Pinto, Ashley Greene and Teresa Palmer took their seats wearing head-to-toe Ferragamo.

Eva Mendes: The Latin beauty wore a two-tone Ferragamo front twist dress. She really went to town by adding a lot of jewels to her look which include an oversized ring, bangles and gorgeous earrings.

Freida Pinto: The Indian actress was radiant wearing a summer chic Ferragamo look which included printed halter top with a white pencil skirt. I wasn’t surprised to see Freida at this event as she wears Ferragamo heels as often as Angelina Jolie on the red carpet. She usually opts for pumps, but she wore Ferragamo brown wedges on this occasion.

Ashley Greene: The Twilight star looked very sophisticated wearing an ivory belted Ferragamo wrap front dress. I love her for having fun with her accessories on this occasion. Bold red cap toe pumps and a houndstooth Ferragamo clutch from the Fall 2011 collection completed her look.

Teresa Palmer: The Australian actress went one step further, by wearing a Ferragamo houndstooth dress from the Fall 2011 collection which has a deep plunging neckline. Classic Ferragamo black pumps and a silver clutch completed her look.

They all look equally fabulous. I couldn’t pick a favourite. If you twisted my arm I could only narrow it down to Freida, Ashley and Teresa.

Claudia Schiffer was spotted walking home after dropping her kids off at school earlier this morning in London.

Her School-Run-Mum look included a peach blouse and a Stella McCartney Spring 2010 longer-length retro cut denim skirt.

The accessories really pull this look together as she added a printed scarf, oversized shades, tan ankle strap heels and a Salvatore Ferragamo saddle bag from the Spring 2011 collection.

This Fall Claudia Schiffer will become a model/designer as she will be launching her cashmere Fall 2011 collection.

It will include boyfriend sweaters, fitted knit dresses, knit capes, leather leggings and oversized cardis.

The everyday pieces which will be available on Net-A-Porter.com.
