When I saw this picture of Emma Watson yesterday on the cover American Vogue’s July 2011 issue, I honestly didn’t recognise her.
After reading who it was, I showed it to my sister covering the name. When I asked her who it was she got it in one with no hesitation.
Maybe I’m so used to the ‘Hermione Granger’ Emma Watson, that I can’t see past the rouge lips, slick back hair and Prada Fall 2011 paillette covered dress.
The star works a Fall 2011 in her editorial featuring Tom Ford, Aquilano.Rimondi, Calvin Klein and Dolce & Gabbana.
This summer Emma will say goodbye to Hermione forever when “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,” is released in July, but Emma officially said goodbye to Hermione when she cut her hair short.
Emma talks to Vogue about finding herself after Harry Potter and balancing work and educations.
Here are some extracts from her interview, followed by her breath-taking editorial shot by Mario Testino.
On experimenting in the Harry Potter makeup trailer: “That was my playground. I would sit and play with lipsticks, foundations, and eye shadows; and every now and then [head of makeup, Amanda Knight] would let me do the extras’ face paint for the Quidditch matches.”
On longtime co-star Daniel Radcliffe: “He understood what his role was, not just as an actor but as the leading man in this enormous franchise. And I think that was almost more important in a way. He held it all together. I am very grateful for him.”
On fighting to balance education and work: “I have felt for the last ten years I have had this battle; I’ve been fighting so hard to have an education. It’s been this uphill struggle. I was Warner Bros.’ pain in the butt. I was their scheduling conflict. I was the one who made life difficult. I just realized at one point that I can’t fight everything. I have to move in the direction of it—and go with it.”

beautifully stylish shooting!!! i´m so impressed!!!
Agreed. The whole editorial is Gorgeous! Emma looks amazing.
I love the pictures of the clothes but she has been so photo shopped it could have been my dog in those pictures and we wouldn’t have known differently
She’s actually not that photoshopped. It’s just dark lipstick and the dark hair. In the high quality shots, you can see her freckles.
It’s just different from anything that she’s done before.
She looks good. Normally I frown upon stars from changing their imge too much because it usually means they’re trying too hard to be something they really aren’t. But this editorial shows Emma has a hard edge to her that will probably benefit her if she continues to foray in the movie industry. Especially Hollywood. Love her!
She looks grown up without looking desperate like how some former child actors either pose for Playboy or try too hard to be ‘edgy.’ She’s grown up here without looking like a skank.
Extremely well put point Julie
She looks extremely beautiful!!! Especially in Prada dress.
Some people say she is trying too hard to lose innocent look of Hermione. But that is what actors and actresses do, trying to find themselves, experimenting.
which is also what you do when you are her age – play around with looks, try different personas on thru hair and makeup and outfits. she’s young and doing her experimenting and playing – she’s just lucky enough to be doing it with vogue stylists, makeup artists and hairstylists!!!
she looks amazing… my favorite looks are the tom ford top with undercover skirt and the prada dress… stunning!!!
She looks good but I cant help but feel that the lip shade is a bit too dark for her. Having said that, I do love the darker approach to this editorial
She does not look like Emma Watson it could be anyone.
This is the BEST styling i have ever seen in Vogue, and the best makeup, she has no photoshop involved!, she just has an amazing, really amazing makeup and light, i am Really impressed with this photos.
I was wondering that myself – if it was just the outstanding makeup and lighting…..wonderful editorial, I really liked it.
too big head ,very weird
The 4 models have chop-sticks for legs

I enjoy her make up…her lips are so sexyyyyy
I love shiney dresses
the more it shines the more am happy
My best cover of the year. 2nd is penelope Cruz. Not impressed with the article but I absolutely adore all the direct quote. I think she is a future A-list in the making.
She looks gorgeous in every shot! I love the styling…. hair, makeup, clothes, all of it. This might be my favorite editorial she’s ever done.
GORGEOUS!!
YAY FOR EMMA!!
I love those pictures. For me she looks strange in the third one but I’d probably had recognized her in the rest.
I Love that D&G dress!!
claire danes wore this silver Calvin Klein Collection at the Amfar Gala in Brazil last in april
Is it just me, or does she look excactly like Leighton Meester in the second shot (close up)?
Otherwise beautiful.
my first thought exactly
MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY.
OMG THAT’S WHAT I THOUGHT TOO!! D:
She looks fantastic – what an impressive shoot
I love those embellished tights.
I want some.
In the close-up, so looks SO MUCH like Leighton Meester. Or is that just me who thinks that?
Gorgeous none the less
I didn’t know if it was possible for my admiration for her to grow anymore, but I think it just did. Bravo, Emma!
Honestly several of the photos dont even look like her. Way over photoshopped. What sort of bubble do these fashion magazine types live in, the real world must be a scary ugly place for them.
she looks beautiful! but i didn’t recognised her at first! i thought she looked a lot like rache weisz
What season are those mcQueen boots/tights from?! They are amazing!!!!
Fall 2011. The whole editorial is Fall 2011
Actually, they aren’t FW11.
They are Alexander McQueen – SS04
x
great thanks
I didn’t recognize Emma on the cover. It’s like looking at Evan Rachel Wood in the Gucci fragrance ad for the first time – a somewhat familiar face but no name comes to mind. She looked too American and commercial in most of these photos. Not sure I like them but nice for a change, esp. if she wants to break free from Hermione and have a real career in film. Most of the photos reminded me of a young Phoebe Cates.
i love the pictures but i recognized her after i read the first sentence haha
Tom Ford + Undercover = WIN.
amazing editorial,i’ve always liked her…and it was impossible for me to belive it’s her when i first saw the cover photo..but seriously,WOW!!
lovely!
Wouhaaaa she looks very very good!!!! Like you FC I didn’t recognised her at the beggining, the pictures are amazing!!!
she looks like victoria beckham in some of them
Absolutely gorgeous – go Hermione!!
That said, kudos to Emma Watson for her efforts to receive an education! Emma, if you ever read this, just go back to school when you’re a little bit older, bored of acting, and ridiculously wealthy.
