Kirsten Dunst also attended the 2011 Cannes Film Festival closing ceremony at the Palais des Festivals this evening.
Robert De Niro presented Kirsten with the Prix de l’Interpretation Feminine (Best Female) Award for “Melancholia.”
I was really excited about her Chanel Spring 2010 Couture look, but that was short-lived when I panned down to her feet.
I’m not sure why these black pointy heels were added to her nude embellished dress with a heavenly fluffy skirt, but they have killed the look stone dead for me.
It hurts just to look at her shoes.

this is a crime!
This is such a beautiful dress that has been entirely let down by her awkward choice of shoes and sloppy hair…
Missed your updates this weekend FC! Hope you’re well
x
Why, why, why?
Somebody get Shoerazzi on the phone!
lol
should i be embarassed to admit i dont mind the shoes….
The only excuse for those shoes is if there was some catastrophic wardrobe malfunction and those black shoes were the last ones available for miles around in her size.
Not that I like the look without the shoes. Why do people insist on putting dangling things on the front of their dresses and ruining the look? The star would have worked at the waist or the neckline, but not dangling down.
AAARGGHHHHH! That’s all I have to add.
Besides being a bad choice, the shoes seem ill-fitting, she looks like she might turn her ankle – so too bad, as I love the rest of this on her, Kaz is right – shoerazzi we need you!
she looks great, just glad she isnt wearing extremely heavy shoes. it would be a crime if this dress was paired with those louboutin “daffodile” platforms.
I loved this look…until I scrolled down and saw those shoes. utter disappointment
btw, I’m a relatively new reader, but I love your blog!
thanks Andrew xxx
The perfect dress, the perfect occasion and the oh so WRONG shoes…. this just killed me. seriously.
When I first saw this, I hadn’t scrolled all the way down the picture and I was really excited. You can imagine my disappointment when I was assaulted by those big, black clunkers.
I completely agree with you, FC. Look = Killed.
I’d never found black shoes as offensive as I do now until i began reading your blog Catherine…at first, your dislike was jarring and i didn’t get it. As I’ve continued to read and as I watch beautiful dress after beautiful dress RUINED by black pumps i now find myself outwardly uttering expletives…sigh…this not only angered me, but a kind of sadness set over me after…its just so tragic. Keep up your amazing work and in your company, I intend to rage against the stylists of the world that perpetuate this madness!!!
Thanks for your comment.
I don’t hate all black shoes all of the time, but this is the perfect example of how they bring down a look because are too heavy
Agreed. I also think that it just suggests a lack of creativity. Black shoes DO NOT go with everything!
I agree with you Tiffany. I had never minded black shoes in the past but I do notice when FC mentions that other shoes could’ve been better. This look would’ve been BDOTW/D worthy had we not seen what was happening below her ankles.
I love the dress! She looked stunning. But the shoes took some points away.
P.S.
She’s the next contestant in ‘Celebrity Shoe Swap’
lol
Can any stylists or fashionistas comment for us and explain why this happens so often? (Lovely dress, black heels) I’m honestly curious to know.
Me too
those shoes.. my eyes are bleeding
The shoes are Christian Lacroix – from his Spring/Summer 2007 haute couture show if my memory serves me correctly.
I didn’t have to read your comments to know that the shoes were a buzz kill to Kristen’s heavenly Chanel Couture moment. I hate them so much. I don’t get it. Did her stylist forget to supply her with shoes? And she had to wear whatever she brought? I am desperately trying the figure out why she would wear these heels.
I finally figured why this girl perpetually looks so frumpy on the red carpet: it’s her posture. She has a tendency to slouch a bit, and it just weighs down the whole outfit. It’s subtle, but the effect is major. She always looks as if the clothes are wearing her instead of the other way around. Some people just are not comfortable or interested in fashion or looking elegant, and she’s one of them.
Why???? Such a graceful dress with black pointy shoes? It’s such a pity.
I don’t get the shoes either. I really don’t.
I agree with you, such a beautiful dress and such “ugly” shoes, those are from valentino as far as i know …
Oh, no doubt this dress is one of my favo in Cannes.
I’m OK with the shoes, maybe because the dress caught my eyes.
Oh my, I wouldn’t even wear those shoes to a dentist appointment let alone wearing them on the red carpet with a Chanel couture. WHYYYY Kirsten….?!?
Nonetheless, the photo in which she is holding the award is so beautiful and shows so much genuine joy that I can disregard the shoes.
I think that even my grandmother who’s 75 years old whould have picked better shoes.
