It looks like Kirsten Dunst heard your pleas, because she opted for Rodarte tonight when she arrived on the red carpet for the “Melancholia” Premiere during the 2011 Cannes Film Festival this evening.
This marks a Cannes debut for Rodarte.
Kiki’s polka dot haltered mermaid Fall 2011 dress with a forest green wool bodice was a beautiful choice for an evening premiere.
I love the Swarovski crystal embellished zipper down the side of the dress, which is a beautiful way to disguise a zipper unlike some of the unsightly exposed zippers we usually see.
The emerald cuff was a perfect touch.
Love the smoky eyes.

I absolutely love this look!!! Fantastic.
I hate the dress
Since Rodarte’s clothes are difficult to pull off and even if I’m not crazy about this dress, she looks good and she totally pulled it off. At least is something new. I admire Rodarte’s designers because they can mix such different textures, fabrics, colors with incredible results.
I‘d like the gown if it was a longer one.
Not an easy look to pull off, but Kirsten does. I really like this look on her, and she’s carrying it well.
Kirsten looks great and I love the attitude with her makeup, but I find the gown ugly to begin with. It is not the Rodarte we love but some ugly vintage find.
This is the way to wear Rodart! She really pulls this off- I love the greens with her skintone and hair color.
It’s drama drama drama and unique but not in an overbearing way. LOVE it.. Dunst has fabulous style.
it may not be Chanel, but I’m not happy with the change. I never thought Chanel designs did Kirsten any favours, but this Rodarte is just hideous. Had it been only the green colour, it would have been much better, the mix of fabrics looks completely out of place. And I totally agree with cartouche, Rodarte did fell off in the last seasons. At least her breasts are supported this time, good for her, because she has an amazing body
She looks gorgeous, but I have to say that I really don’t like the bottom of this dress. Still, it’s a strong look and mostly right for me; it’s also a welcome break from the bigger blockbuster gowns we’ve been seeing…..
ew.. what a hideous dress. rodarte has really fell off in the last few seasons
Hideous is a strong word, but I agree, the dress is not attractive. It looks very dated.
Looks out of season to me. More suited to fall or winter, not the beach in May.
I love everything about this look! She looks stunning.
Ewwww…I HATE it!!!!!!!
Actually, it’s gorwing on me.
Quintessentially Rodarte. Classic ideas given a kick with new mixes of styles and fabrics. Kirsten looks beautiful here, so confident!
What an interesting dress and quite different to the usual Cannes fare. Kirsten made some excellent fashion choices today. I think this is my favorite look of the day.
I agree – different but very, very good, and probably my favourite.
never liked Rodarte and thsi dress can’t change my mind…
Wonderful!!!!!
I really wish this dress had been all the turquoise color or all the black sheer overlay. Preferably the turquoise because it brings out Kirsten’s eyes along with the makeup. I think a turquoise version of this dress accented with black jewelry would have been a better choice.
I was just thinking the same thing. I wish this had been all black overlay or all green. This two fabrics do not work together for me.
A Cannes debut? Didn’t Natalie Portman wear Rodarte – the red dress – for Black Swan’s premiere last year?

i like it a lot. I love the fit, the green halter, also the luxurious fabric it’s made of and as you say the detail on the side. i also like that it’s unsual on the red carpet, not the same old cut.
Great choice for her.
I agree with every word. She’s usually too quirky for me but this Rodarte I love.
wow, I’ve never seen something like this from her! Her body looks fantastic, love it!
Finally! An elegant, age apropriate, feminine look with Kirsten’s touch. I adore it <3
Maybe I am just blind to the Rodarte aesthetic but this feels like such a disjointed look to me. The polka dot/mermaid detail/embellishment/green wool (?!) bodice is just way too much for one dress. I often wonder how the Mulleavy sisters have entrenched themselves as such fashion powerhouses when a majority of their looks just look downright sloppy to me.
I’ll second that.
Rodarte is often lost on me,too, but I think this is fabulous. It is playful and sophisticated all at the same time. It could lose the mermaid finish, but somehow I can’t quite imagine how the dress would end. I think it is pretty inspired, and Kirsten looks amazing in it.
And I like the way the bottom of the dress moves when the model is walking
I ‘m not a fan of the dress but think she looks wonderful
I agree. I’ve never been a fan of mermaid dresses (and never will) but she looked so beautiful. Oh, as FC said, perfect jewellery choice!
