I’m not quite sure how I missed this one.
French actress Melanie Laurent – the new face of Dior Hypnotic Poison – was the hostess for the 2011 Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony on Wednesday.
The ‘Inglourious Basterds’ actress looked gorgeous at the Palais des Festivals wearing a Dior Couture gown.
Her strapless black organza gown with a nude underlay was teamed with dazzling Chopard diamonds.

I hated the dress the second I saw it
Me too. Not into the texture or the weird flare on the skirt. I do like the color.

Lovely. Although I think I would have preferred the dress if the detailing on the skirt continued to the very bottom of the gown. Apart from that, I think she looks great.
PS. Fahion Critic, have you heard that Giambattista Valli has been asked to show a couture collection in Paris from July? I’m holding my breath for that first show.

I think it is going to be amazing. Honestly, I’m getting a little tired of seeing so much Valentino couture on the red carpet these days, particularly when much of it seems so same-same, and I think Valli will definitely be gunning to get his couture gowns on the bodies of the likes of Caroline Seiber and Eugenie Niarchos and Bianca Brandolini D’Adda and co. That in itself if enough to arouse my interest in what he’ll present during couture fashion week.

The black organza appears to be an overlay on the nude skirt, not the nude overlaid on the black dress – a gorgeous look.
