Gong Li In Roberto Cavalli – 2011 Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony

A Cannes Film Festival red carpet is not complete without Roberto Cavalli.

Gong Li wore an aubergine strapless gown from the designers Couture collection which we usually see during Cannes or worn by Liz Hurley.

The Asian actress worked this stunning gown to perfection at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony.

I love the embellished bodice and the sweeping train.

Gong Li’s necklace was a tad overkill considering the exquisite detail on the bodice of her gown, she should have only added her Louis Vuitton earrings and ring from the L’Ame du Voyage and Les Eclatantes collections.

Plus Chopard.

I agree that the necklace is overkill, but otherwise she looks gorgeous in this deep aubergine color. I love the bodice of this…..

She looks GORGEOUS. I actually don’t mind the necklace, its small enough not to take away from the dress.
P.S. FC i absolutely LOVE this blog. I haven’t seen any other blog that covers as extensively as you do :)

thanks Camille…there’s plenty more to come :)

A lovely look but its a no for the necklace. What I didnt like was how amazing the bodice was but then the train was boring by comparison

What I don’t like is how tight the bottom of the dress appears to be. Maybe it’s just the draping of the fabric… but it looks like all she could do is waddle in this.

Seriously, this has to be one of the best nights for fashion ever! Will we survive a whole week like this? :)

  6. Kaylie May 11, 2011 at 21:41 #

Love the color on her! I think she and Fan are my two favorites today :)

TNX for the coverge, FC, and these are just the entrées!! Lots of work for you during the week, and lots of aaahing and ooohing and voting for us. Again, thanks in advance.

Gong Li remains one of our most beautiful stars, in my opinion. And she looks absolutely fabulous here. It is a stunning dress. She should have traded the necklace for a diamond bracelet.

  9. Rebecca May 11, 2011 at 22:02 #

    Don’t forget to sleep, FC!

    • Fashion Critic May 11, 2011 at 22:10 #

I don’t mind the necklace but I hate the colour of the dress. Had it been different, it would have been a stunning look

yes zoe first film she gained fame was made in 1988, Red Sorghum, she was 23 x

  13. Laura May 12, 2011 at 00:16 #

The color is stunning on her, and this look is gorgeous. But I’m with you that the jewelry was overkill.

  14. KateS May 12, 2011 at 02:44 #

She looks fabulous and very Cannes. I don’t even think the jewellery is overkill – with so many stars toning down the jewellery at recent events (not wanting to appear too flashy in the recession, maybe?), Cannes is one of the last places you can go for this sort of big, flashy glamour.

  15. Garmai May 12, 2011 at 03:19 #
