The stunning Aishwarya Rai was a total knock out at the Opening Ceremony tonight in Cannes.
I love how regal the Indian beauty looks wearing an Elie Saab Spring 2011 Couture gown with a peplum at the waist.
The model didn’t do this stone coloured asymmetrical lightly embellished gown justice.
Aishwarya’s breath-taking gown is doing 20% of the work; she puts in the 80% by living up to her title of being one of the most beautiful women in the world.
I’m in love. Head over heels. Her hair, make-up; everything is total perfection.
A Jimmy Choo ‘Cosma’ clutch and Chopard jewels completed the look.

I agree… here in India, we have seen Ash in such gorgeous colourful looks that this pales in comaprison. Plus I really dont like the texture of the dress..
The dress is beautiful but Aishwarya is not justifiable to it. She has grown flabby and it destroys the symmetry of the dress.
And PS: Cannes is international so please don’t compare it to the Indian Colors.
I find it strange that every time I post on Aishwarya the majority of the negative “fat/flabby/overweight” comments are coming from a section of the community I thought would’ve been happy to see her featured on this site.
I have had to delete so many comments saying she is fat, which I find really disgusting.
Why in this day and age can’t we accept people of all sized and races?
Rai is 37 years old. She’s not as slender as she used to be but it doesn’t matter because she is now more womanly and more beautiful than she’s ever been.
Please get past the weight ‘non’ issue because it’s getting boring.
Well said FC! I don’t like the dress but it doesn’t have anything to do with Ash’s body she is perfect. She doesn’t have to look like a skeleton to be considered breathtaking.
Also, Gia’s comment about not compairing to india colours is totally irrelevant! I’m not even Indian and she could have worn the dress in black I would have been happy

I must say this was not my favorite dress from the collection but when Cannes is kicked off with Elie Saab couture, I really can’t complain. Aishwarya is looking amazing too. Can’t wait for 12 days of pure fashion and for more Elie Saab.

Um excuse me but she is NOT the most beautiful woman in the world. I hate these hypocrite celebs who give themselves self-proclaiming titles like this. I have seen way more stunning woman than this person here who looks 1000x better without makeup. I love the hair but makeup is horrendous.
aishwarya would never give herself that title. she’s said in her opinion angelina is the most beautiful woman in the world for both her looks and many acts of charity. aishwarya was given this title by numerous magazines and groups across the world for years, she didn’t ask for it- her face just got it for her.
excuse me…the title “most beautiful woman in the world ” came from Julia Roberts..and aishwarya has earned that title she deserves till today and forever ..she is timeless, class, perfection, beauty personified…irreplaceable
Stunning women but I don’t like this dress. Can’t really put my finger on it, but this dress doesn’t look classy or chic but dated and drab. The relatively conservative cut of the dress, the classic nude color, the formal hair; the entire look ages her.
She looks so beautiful, its simple and understated but still makes such an impact.

so old look. no freshness at face at all.. so so old look and dress is made of my momz home curtains. she look so old surgery. wen she was young she was stunning but now after having a lot of surgeries her face is devasted…
A big fan of aishwarya! bigger fan of Saab. couple of things i did not like about her choice:
firstly, the color looks washed away on her. she has a golden skin tone and looks like faded glory in that color
and then, she has gained and lost pounds so often and it shows in this gown. her arms look slightly flabby which again would have not been obvious in a better color.
the ruffle below the waist should flow away from the body and not hug like it hugs her! it only makes her look flabbier!
please aishwarya! i’m a big fan! but that dress is too old and too blah! her make-up could do better too. her neck shows more age than anything about her.
