Solange Knowles is usually in her big sister’s shadow, but tonight she was the one who stood out at the 2011 Met Gala.
Solange has more misses than hits, but she hits a high note wearing a Dries Van Noten Fall 2011 gown.
The black, white and green silk gown with geometric beading was teamed with plenty of attitude and a big ‘fro.

BDOTW for me, love everything about this look! So different.
Solange went in hard! TKO. Love that even the hair has geometric shape
Too much detail on the hips. Another miss…
I totally agree–all I see are the hips!
I totally agree with you. Big miss. Also, why is she so important to be invited at such big fashion event?
Amen. Big. Hot. Mess.
she looks fantastic from the neck down, but that hair is ridiculous looks like a really bad wig.
Definitely agree with you there. Think she looks horrendous from the neck up but doesnt she often!! Her hair and makeup were truly shocking!
true that, but she is in her own world anyway
I surprised myself by liking this dress. I don’t even know if Solange has ever looked good on the red carpet.
kudos to solange for standing apart from the pack in that impactful dries van noten number, but i feel like choice of hair style pulls the eye away from that spectucular gown.
i would have loved a great pulled back ‘fro ponytail with dazzling earrings.
I actually like this look. The colors are great!
BDOTW contender; I think she looks amazing.
Too much hair for this complex dress (which I love)…
sorry but no. The hips are way too emphasized and that hair looks so messy. It’s a miss
I love Dreies Van Noten so I’m always happy to see it on red carpet especially when it looks so damn good. I love this print, I think it’s the best I’ve seen her look ever.
Love it ! Although she wears it in a style that is so not Dries-but it works.
This is a miss for me. The hair & makeup distract from the dress, which is fantastic.
I loved th egown, much moreso than Beyonce’s complete eyesore of a look, but she kind of ruins it. I wish she had gone not so psycho with theeyes, a sleek pony or bun with the hair, less witht heearrings and clame rwith the makeup. The dress is such an interesting choice though, so I’ll giver her major kudos for that.
I keep scrolling back up to see if I can find a reason to like this dress…. so far I’m unsuccessful. Poor Solange she tries *so* hard! Sucks being in big sissy’s shadow. I wish she’d try to get her own geniune identity. One week she’s in a hobo look with her natural little fro, and now we are trying for glam in a big dramatic hair. Which shall we be, sweetie?
total miss for me
The hair and make-up are really bad.
Not crazy about the hair.
This is one of those looks that you’ll either LOVE or HATE. There’s no in-between. With that said, I. HATE. IT. That dress is wearing her, and it clearly should be the other way around.
I actually quite like it, I think it’s a beautiful dress. She might not have pulled it off in the best manner, but she doesn’t look that bad and she looks TEN times better than her hot mess of a sister at the same gala!
The hair would have been better suited pulled back so that all focus would have been on this amazing dress.
I honestly don’t understand why she’s there and I think the hair overwhelms the beauty of the dress
Danielle: I totally agree! What is the reason to WHY she is there at all
So glad that I am not the only one that thinks so
