Christina Ricci In Zac Posen – 2011 Met Gala

Christina Ricci may have worn Zac Posen to the 2011 Met Gala last night, but the totally captured the spirit of McQueen.

She was one of the few who did.

Ricci glided down the red carpet wearing a custom couture Zac Posen creation with a dramatic train.

I saw this dress when she arrived with the designer, and the pictures are not doing this ombre and lace detailed corseted gown any favours.

She effortlessly works this mermaid silhouette with great style and finesse.

Fred Leighton jewels completed her look.

Awesome & Amazing! I wish I could work a look like this so effortlessly.

  2. mm May 3, 2011 at 13:35 #

Finally some DRAMA that is gorgeous. Christina dont Hurt’em! Love it. Beyonce you should’ve had this mermaid dress.

    • Terry May 3, 2011 at 15:18 #

I don’t think this dress would have had the same impact on Beyonce or on someone else. Christina totally owns it because she’s always had that Gothic/dark mood since she acted in the role of Wednesay Addams, and this dress totally channels it. The best dressed of the evening, imo.

      • mm May 3, 2011 at 16:47 #

        You’re so right!

  3. Sasha May 3, 2011 at 13:36 #

I’ve never cared much for Zac Posen but kudos to him for embracing the theme correctly and creating something in tune with it while still creating something himself.

I understand that this is an event for designers to showcase themselves but they should take a cue from Zac who did it the right way.

    Excellent

    • Vidhya May 3, 2011 at 16:58 #

totally agree… people just remembered MET gala and forgot “savage beauty” and “mcqueen”. I love this look and she is WORKING it…

      • Dani May 4, 2011 at 02:04 #

I know! So many people just went ‘pretty ballgown’ I had to go look up if there WAS a theme this year. Absolutely love this dress and the way Christina’s wearing it!

  4. Jess May 3, 2011 at 13:44 #

She looks wonderful. I always remember how good she looked 3 years ago at this event in Givenchy. She really considers the theme and dresses to wow.

  5. Caitlin May 3, 2011 at 13:45 #

Oh. My. God. She has left me absolutely stunned.
What is even more amazing is how tiny she is – and yet she has such an incredible presence. Best dressed of the YEAR.

    • Leti May 3, 2011 at 16:18 #

I was thinking exactly the same thing about her stature. It says a lot about her that she can carry off this dress despite being so petite. This is one of the only dresses that really captured the mood of the event, and brought the drama. Well done, Christina!

    • KateS May 4, 2011 at 02:28 #

I too am always amazed by how well she manages very intricate, dramatic gowns given how tiny she is – it says a lot for her presence that they don’t overwhelm her. Love that she captured the theme of the event with this dress.

  6. f4fashion May 3, 2011 at 13:47 #

Well this is a stunning dress. Christina is looking amazing, so effortless and chic. You are so true FC, the gown is very McQueen-esque! The top of the dress makes me think of a butterfly ready to leave its cocoon,This is unbelievable.

  7. Hauteness May 3, 2011 at 13:50 #

Savage Beasts- check! Nod to McQueen- check! hands down best dressed of the night! Christina shut it down!

  8. Luis May 3, 2011 at 13:54 #

I hate Zac Posen but i love this dress, it’s so appropriate to the event. She is my favorite of all the night. Christina Ricci, Liv Tyler, SJP, Karolina Kurkova, Liu Wen and Daphne are by far the best dressed of the event and the only ones who get the memo that it was a Mcqueen night…

  9. ber May 3, 2011 at 14:04 #

THIS is what I was expecting from everyone. So fab!

  10. Martin May 3, 2011 at 14:06 #

I did not like this dress at all. Bringing the drama is one thing, wearing a dress that is a parody of a McQueen gown (and executed without the finesse and precision of the master himself in my opinion) is an entirely different matter.

    • Luis May 3, 2011 at 14:21 #

Why do you say that? The dress was so well fitted to Ricci body and f you see larger images you can see how much attentation was taken to every detail of the dress.

  11. Rory May 3, 2011 at 14:16 #

BDOT – Event. BDOT – week. BDOT- possibly year. I was so, so dismayed to see people get it SO wrong. Some of the women I knew I could rely on let me down so badly. Rihanna….I can’t believe you. How could so few pay tribute to Alexander McQueen like they knew he should? Dahpne doesn’t count – this is the ONLY McQueen esque and on theme hit the nail on the head stunning look of the night. So, so sad. Thank you Zac Posen or this would have been an utter wash! FC maybe you can do a post just dedicated to the overall disaster this year and maybe adress why so few paid attention to the theme of ‘Alexander McQueen – Savage Beauty’

    • Laura May 3, 2011 at 15:20 #

Agreed. Christina looks A-freakin-mazing and totally owns this

  12. mol May 3, 2011 at 14:17 #

That picture of her on the stairs – aaahhhhmazing! The fact that she is so tiny and actually pulled this off is also amazing….

  13. sabrina May 3, 2011 at 14:18 #

    Amazing!!!

  14. Femme May 3, 2011 at 14:20 #

    LOVE!

  15. Sarah May 3, 2011 at 14:20 #

Oh this is IT! Spectacular and so intelligently, subversively seductive. I normally don’t like Posen gowns, but he absolutely nailed the theme. And tiny little Christina is carrying it off with aplomb. This is what I expect of the met gala. Bravo.

  16. Voguette May 3, 2011 at 14:24 #

    Best dressed of this event

  17. Kaylie May 3, 2011 at 14:27 #

Impressive, considering how short she is! I objectively know that she is tiny, but she doesn’t look tiny here! It fits her perfecting and she is working it.

  18. VB Lover May 3, 2011 at 14:28 #

This might be my best dressed at the event– you are right that she really captured the McQueen spirit! Were you at the event? You said that you saw the dress when she arrived and the pictures don’t do the dress justice!!

    • Fashion Critic May 3, 2011 at 14:34 #

I didn’t attend I arrived with a friend who was attending and saw a few of the stars arrive. I will blog about it later.

      • Luis May 3, 2011 at 14:50 #

I’m pretty sure you will attend next year as a Atelier Versace girl!

  19. Grace May 3, 2011 at 14:30 #

I could not love this look more. For someone as tiny as she is, she can work the hell out of a big gown.

  20. Bárbara H. May 3, 2011 at 14:30 #

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.
You said it perfectly, she totally captured the essence of not only McQueen but the event itself.

  21. Matt May 3, 2011 at 14:43 #

I enjoy drama but I’m I the only one who thinks the dress overwhelms her?

    • Julie May 3, 2011 at 16:24 #

If only the neckline was different…

  22. Hannah May 3, 2011 at 14:46 #

I don’t know why, but I ALWAYS underestimate nad forget about Christina Ricci. She alway sbrings glamour and rama and incredibly iconic looks, anyone else remember that incredible Givenchy look a few years back? GORGEOUS. Definitely in my best dressed of the night. If this photo does it no justice, I cannot even fathom how incredlbe it was live.

  23. Bonnie May 3, 2011 at 14:50 #

Wow….she looks amazing and the dress is drama, one of the best from Zac Posen

  24. Nia May 3, 2011 at 14:58 #

Love it, love her. Go Christina!

  25. Sally May 3, 2011 at 15:06 #

    Flawless.

  26. dee May 3, 2011 at 15:12 #

  27. DivaMom May 3, 2011 at 15:22 #

    high drama and impact. WIN!

  28. JacobGH May 3, 2011 at 15:28 #

Thank you FC for featuring this dress! I was afraid it might get lost in the shuffle but it was definitely the stand-out look for me. BDOTW and possible BDOTY candidate IMO!

  29. june May 3, 2011 at 15:49 #

THIS is how you dress for a gala that’s all about mcqueen

  30. Alina May 3, 2011 at 15:58 #

I like it but I don’t love it.

  31. Missy May 3, 2011 at 16:00 #

    Respect! Love it!

  32. Giuseppi May 3, 2011 at 16:05 #

    Beetlejuice, beetlejuice, beetlejuice!

Just kidding… I actually like this a lot- I went through a goth/neo-victorian phase when I was a teenager, and this is making me think of that sooo much. :)

  33. Pam May 3, 2011 at 16:25 #

Definitely one of my favorites of the night.

  34. niya May 3, 2011 at 16:47 #

Wow she looks amazing! I am super impressed by this. never knew she had it in her! and one of the few dresses that actually fits the theme (as you said) since a lot of these dresses were pretty/fun but didn’t seem to capture the theme at all.

  35. CreoleLady May 3, 2011 at 16:49 #

OK, I am officially, floored, knocked out, mouth agape. Someone finally brought the drama and worked it. Beware this very elegant black widow, lol. I’ve been kinda meh about the looks until now. Love it.

  36. Darien May 3, 2011 at 16:54 #

    This is my BDOTW!! :)
so McQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and just beyond the world, :)

  37. unvacuous May 3, 2011 at 17:24 #

  42. Gaber May 3, 2011 at 20:30 #

    Seriously good.

  43. ME May 3, 2011 at 21:49 #

Gorgeous dress. At least one person understood the theme.

  44. Jimmy May 3, 2011 at 22:44 #

This is another of my favorite looks from the night. she really stood out for all the right reasons.

  45. PamG May 3, 2011 at 22:47 #

Zac Posen and Christina Ricci paid tribute to McQueen in the best possible way!

  46. mari May 3, 2011 at 23:30 #

incredible. The wider pic shows a little bit of what it looked like at the event…the color grading in the skirt and the torso drapings are amazing. She has such a presence!

  47. elia May 4, 2011 at 00:00 #

    THE most beautiful dress everrrrr!!!!!!!

  48. Ariel May 4, 2011 at 01:58 #

  50. TurnerTheWriter May 4, 2011 at 04:54 #

Fabulous! It looks great on her, and appeals to the Steampunk sensibilities.

  51. Danielle May 4, 2011 at 05:13 #

I bet she could walk in it unlike Beyonce

    • Fashion Critic May 4, 2011 at 05:18 #

I saw her in this dress and she had not problem walking in it.

The dress wasn’t as restrictive as Beyonce’s
