I was hugely disappointed by Beyonce Knowles who walked the red carpet at the 2011 Met Gala in New York City this evening with her husband Jay-Z.
I had such high hopes for Bey in Emilio Pucci, but this style of dress is circa ‘Dream Girls’ which wasn’t a great period for the singer on the red carpet.
Her custom black mermaid gown with gold embroidery details has a really high neckline.
This high neckline was featured in many looks in the Fall 2011 collection, but I wish the neckline was open on this occasion.
I hoped this would be one of my favourites on the night, but it turned out to be my least favourite.
It might be a custom Pucci design, but it has Tina Knowles written all over it.

I agree. I do not like the hair or gown. She rarely gets it right in my opinion. I do not like her style.

There are some beautiful gowns from the couture shows so I don’t know why she chose to wear this monstrosity. Her mother should be fired as her stylist.
In all honesty, if the dress were strapless or sans neckline, it may have worked.

It really is awful. I think maybe if the dress was designed with a heart shape bodice it would’ve work better. That cut out with the high neck line, plus the heavy embroidery horrid

Daphne Guiness and SJP showed up in McQueen, but I wasn’t particularly blown away by either one.

seeing the pics i thot “god, she & her house of dereon”. i was really surprised to have read it was a pucci dress, just like u said fc, it has tina knowles written all over it. instead of ditchign her father as a manager she should have ditched her mother as a stylist!
What I want to know is how she managed to get herself up the steps. But seriously, this is one of my least favorite of the night. It reminds me SO much of her Oscar dress from 2009. Same fit, same colors, same ugly.

This dress is way too tight! In some pictures, it looks like Jay-Z is holding her up because can’t breathe. This dress screams Mama Tina. in fact I was immediately reminded of that black and gold House of Dereon dress from the 2009 Oscars. I love Bey but I wish she would let the mermaid thing go. BTW I think Jay Z looks nice in his Tom Ford suit.

I think it’s the same style for Bey that she usually wears, but the details are beyond amazing. I like the hairstyle on her though. If the bottom wasn’t mermaid she would look spectacular. Overall she looks ok.

She was the worst dressed! The dress is a mix of Dolce & Gabanna and Mcqueen dress but very thigh and with a awful neck line. Bad Bad Bad!

while i do enjoy beyonce’s look, it just doesn’t have the same fashion edge we saw from her during her days in paris. you can tell she wanted to pay homage to the mcqueen aesthetic, but i can’t help but wonder how she would’ve looked in the red mcqueen outfit she wore in her video!!!

A huge miss. Pucci? What? So vulgar… Yes, her mother did something to completely ruin this dress. I also think that her body doesn’t need such OTT dresses in real life (for videos is such a different thing), because it’s easy for her to look tacky.

Don’t get me wrong, I love that she celebrates her hot curves and this gown hugs them in all the right places, but I prefer the looks she wore lately. Nevertheless, I have to admit that I love this gown on her, I really like the high neckline.

after seeing pictures of her having to be helped up the steps it makes me hate the dress more, sorry but when you cant even walk up steps by yourself in a dress perhaps that is a sign that the dress shouldnt be worn.
Beyonce is pretty, but she needs to wear clothes that FIT……She ruined a very classy gown.
i actually lke it in a costumey way – from waist up especially. But a dress does need to allow a girl to breathe and walk the steps

This is the MET Gala honoring Alexander McQueen and in a way I feel she did that but also gave us something that is very her but also something that another designer created. Isn’t that what we were all hoping for?
The outcome wasn’t that great but I can appreciate that she tried to balance all 3 things.
If this didn’t have a tulle fishtail and just continued down with the sequenced fabric that would have made it better, it would have elongated her a bit more seeing she’s being cut at 2 different places at her chest and at her knees. Add in a shiny tight fabric and the gold embellishments and she looks wider than she really is.
I do wish the dress wasn’t sequin-filled where the black fabric is supposed to be. Velvet or something else would have been better and just have the gold embellishment be the only shiny attraction.
This look had great potential.
Oh BTW, she’s going to be at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the L’Oreal girls.
I just saw the camera phone footage on yahoo. She couldn’t even walk up the stairs in this horrendous number. My husband would have fussed at me the minute I put something on I couldn’t walk in. LOL And there she was with TWO men holding her up on either side so she didn’t hit the pavement. She looked injured!
Reminded me of a golden print Versace shirt circa 1992. Absolutely stunning figure though.

Well actually people I LOVE the dress and I am not a huge Bey fan. I just think this is a Fashion Gala and the dress was artistic and fashionable. Love it just a little too tight.
