Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: April 2011

Recently I attended the Starworks Press Preview in London.

I always make a beeline for the Nicholas Kirkwood section, but they featured many other brands including Atelier Swarovski, Hogan, Hudson, Jonathan Saunders, Julien Macdonald, Kate Spade, Marios Schwab, Peter Pilotto, Pollini, Roksanda Ilincic and Trilogy.

The new brands I was introduced to on this occasion were Mother of Pearl, Vilshenko, Claudia Schiffer and Lily Allen’s Lucy in Disguise.

The Lucy in Disguise Fall 2011 collection wasn’t allowed to be photographed, but I can tell you that Lily is expanding into ready to wear with a capsule collection for Fall. The vintage inspired collection included a gorgeous nude long sleeve dress and 40s style tea dresses.

Lucy in Disguise will launch in various stores worldwide this summer. In the UK it will be sold exclusively at Harvey Nichols and the Lucy In Disguise London store. Shopbop.com will stock the collection from June. Read more…

Hayden Panettiere attended the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival Family Screening of “Hoodwinked Too” at the Clearview Cinemas Chelsea New York City on Saturday.

The blonde actress opted for a Julien Macdonald Spring 2011 mini dress which has been modified from the runway.

Her blush and orange petal-print silk-chiffon dress has an orange overlay compared to the runway version which is blush.

Whilst I prefer the orange overlay on Hayden, I prefer the skirt on the runway.

Hayden shredded version feels a bit messy to me.

Her tan leather jacket makes her lingerie inspired dress more appropriate for an animated screening, as do her nude pumps.

The bronze Lauren Merkin clutch also provides a nice contrast.

Elle Fanning was the first to wear a dress from Marchesa’s exquisitely designed Spring 2011 collection to the 17th Annual ELLE Women in Hollywood Tribute Event back in October.

The adorable actress looked picture perfect in an all-white version of the dress and managed to accomplish looking both age appropriate and stylish. Elle kept her long blonde hair down and straight and added a slick of plum-coloured lipstick.

This look would have been flawless had it not been for one small error – her shoes.

Elle chose a pair of black ankle strap heels and for me, they just don’t coordinate well with such a pretty dress. Despite this, there’s no denying how lovely she looks on the red carpet.

Earlier this month, Olivia Palermo wore the same dress to the Couple of the Year 2011 event in Hamburg, Germany.

Accompanied by her beau Johannes Huebl, Olivia spiced up her look with pearl earrings, sparkling jewels, an embellished Club Monaco clutch plus a striking pair of red and black satin heels.

Olivia is a red carpet professional and knows exactly how to work this look.

Her hair and makeup are impeccable and I love how her bright red nail polish matches her shoes and adds even more glamour to her sophisticated and romantic outfit.

This one was close because both Elle and Olivia look so beautiful, but Olivia pulls ahead with her standout accessories. Her stunning pair of shoes almost steals the show.

Helen Mirren was a clear winner for you this week.

The evergreen actress managed to work this youthful Dolce & Gabbana animal print dress with a leather biker jacket with making it look too contrived.

Helen rarely gets it wrong on the red carpet and on this occasion she outshone Katy Perry who’s 40 years younger than the Great Dame.

Whilst I wanted to pick one of the Couture gowns we saw this week on the red carpet, I fell head over heels with Eva Mendes’ look.

With our gorgeous weather in London – minus the Saturday evening showers – this Free People floral short sleeve dress puts me in the perfect mood for summer.

Easy, breezy, beautiful.
