Two blondes, one look.
It’s official—matte red lipstick is having a moment.
Recently spotted on sexy songstress Kylie Minogue and ‘Gossip Girl’ goddess Blake Lively, it looks as if our favorite stars are forgoing the gloss in favor of a more softened scarlet smile.
And we can certainly see why—it’s vampy, not trampy, and beautiful, yet badass.
Loving the look?
Know this: If your complexion is fair like Minogue’s, a bright orange-red will stand out. (Try TopShop Lips in Infrared, $16 at Topshop US and £8 at Topshop International).
If your skin is tan like Lively’s, try a true red with blue undertones. (Try like Lancôme’s Color Design Sensational Effects Matte Lipcolor in Red Haute, $22 at Lancôme-USA.com).

I’ve recently gone blonde and brought a matt red lipstick from Mac and it looks great!
Another ideia is Ruby Woo MAC, my favorite.
XOXO, Amanda.
That’s what I brought!
never normally been a fan of matte red lips especially the darker the red. although both kylie and blake looks great with it.
I’m not blonde, but I definitely wear lipstick everyday. I wear different shades depending on my mood. Today I am wearing a true red. Tomorrow it may be a blue based red.
What if you’re darker than tan? Like, you know, black. Do the suggestions made for tan people also apply to people with darker complexions?
go for a red with blue undertones.
That’s weird, normally it’s opposite.
Pale shades should go for red with blue undertones and tan with opposite.
Yes, I’m well aware of what the experts “say”. But the eyes never lie… the photos shown above prove that rules are made to be broken.
See I’m very fair skinned, but a real english-rose type with rosy cheeks. Orange-red clashes horribly, so I go for a lighter-than-Blakes blue-red.
