I was looking for something different during Mercedes-Benz Russia Fashion Week, and I saw that this week during the Yegor Zaitsev Fall 2011 presentation.

It was a full house. People were standing at this show, which was a first that I had witnessed this Fashion Week.

I soon saw what the fuss was about, and why people were so eager to see this show when the first model hit the runway.

The Russian fashion rebel Yegor Zaitsev presented an avant-garde collection which was surprisingly romantic.

Yegor took classic silhouettes extended them, volumized them, turned them upside down and made them into works of art.

Check, houndstooth, wool and tweed coats, skirts and necklines were peeled open like a banana skins; tentacles sprouted from the neck and arms; boots were paired with socks.

The first person to spring to mind was Rihanna, then strangely Beyonce and Kylie Minogue.

I can picture these ladies wearing this looks on stage – especially the white coat.

Despite so many dramatic pieces, there were some wearable looks in this collection which also included menswear.

This was a perfect way to close Mercedes-Benz Russia Fashion Week.
