Doesn’t Translate Award
After Carine Roitfeld wore a look from the Givenchy Couture Spring 2011 collection, I’ve been wondering if this collection can actually translate well on the red carpet.
Florence Welch gave me an answer tonight at the 2011 Grammy Awards, and the answer is no.
Florence looked much better during her performance wearing Elie Saab.
This Givenchy Spring 2011 Couture nude stretch tulle dress with embroidered and sequins washes her out and looked just as bad on TV.
She paired her look with the gold embroidered leather runway heels.

I was instantly turned off to that dress because Kelly Osbourne predicted it. Putting my bias against anything Kelly Osbourne aside, I still don’t like this look. I think looks from this collection would look best editorially.
I didn’t like this either. I was praying she would wear Elie Saab on the red carpet so glad she wore him during her performance
I hate to say this, it pains me so, but Florence Welch was one of the worst dressed. You are right FC, that collection is a stretch to pull off, and our girl Flo can’t even do it.
Let s face it real people can’t wear designer clothes as seen on a runway.those clothes are not designed to be worn for more than the time it takes a model to do a lap.
At least she tried.
granted
i wish Florence wore the one Carine wore instead.
Givenchy put out the most amazing haute couture collection this season, but i agree it doesn’t translate well on the red carpet. the dresses are best appreciated on more intimate occasions.
there’s something that tells me with a bit of altering, this look may have actually went from zero to hero. the sleeves, the mid-section, and even possibly modifying the length would’ve done her a few favors here. also, i think she should’ve amped up her beauty look for such a showcase gown.
this look may have worked for a private party — as it did on carine — but it needs some extra omph for the red carpet.
At least she purchased this dress herself.
What a disaster. Wearing a couture dress with dirty hair?
I’m crying.
And, what’s wrong with her back? Did she hurt it? Does she feel pain?
Why is she standing like it is hard for her to stand?
I think it’s mostly due to the hair… And the attitude… I think those dresses require someone who looks very “pure” in a way…
zzzz…. oh sorry i almost fell asleep with how boring this look was.
Im going to be frank, I dont like the dress at all and it doesnt get much better on her. Much prefer her in Saab
Don’t kill me but I like it.
Me too.
Same here!
With better hairstyle and better pose it might have worked.
That hair = ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
I really like it. Especially compared to the usual Grammys parade of sequinned minis and animal print. BDOW for me!
Should ahve worked, just didn’t. Iit looked ebtter on TV imo, but still not great. I wish she had tried one of the beautiful more subtle pink embellished dresses from the collection, they would look gorgeous on her (and Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman, inevitably
)
Like I’ve said time and time again, some dresses are just for the runway and not real life. This swan dress is ugly and too editorial for the red carpet.
Every swan dress on the RC seems like a pale nod to Bjork’s more amazing efforts – this is not good, but it’s not hilariously, jaw-droppingly bad, either. I think this might be a collection to save for the magazines.
I don’t hate it, in fact I kind of like it on her. Maybe she was just having fun since she had 2 additional looks to follow.
Actually, I really like it – something different for Florence and I think it works!
Actually, I love this dress on her. I mean, who else could pull it off?
