Joey Yung attended CCTV Spring Festival broadcast recording this week in celebration of the Lunar New Year.
The singer becomes the first person to wear an unmodified, non commercial look from the Alexander McQueen Fall 2010 collection.
Her red silk dress with embroidered gold sequins is exquisitely crafted with an elaborately pleated skirt.
She added black tights and the same engraved leather heels which this dress was presented with to make a striking sartorial statement.

I’m delighted someone wore this and bummed that that someone added tights.
Fc I saw some SS2011 Atelier Versace looks on line and I really hope you’d post the collection too. So perfect for Oscars!
thanks…for the heads up I found them
For me, a bit shorter and no tights would have been perfect, but it’s still awful good, even potential BDOTW contender.
I am in horror that she would wear tights. What an awful decision. NO tights with Alexander McQueen- especially this collection.
Great print/color but horrific skirt.
I wish she didn’t wear tights. And I still hope to see this collection on someone who’ll do it justice.
omg, bdotw. she wears it so well. i want that dress!
And wath do you think? Is it a good look?
i dont think it’s bad, but not bdotw worthy
I agree with you! The skirt is not flattering.
It is a brave choice, and as you say, a non commercial look. While the colours are striking, especially for lunar new year, the structure of the skirt is not flattering. The black tights look a bit ” winter streetwear” to me.
This is such a surprise to see my “queen” here. Love this woman and am kinda surprised but not quite, to see her wear this collection. I don’t like the tights, but what can I do?
Tights with this dress?! I am in shock that McQueen PR loaned this out for a TV spot and allowed her to wear tights with it as well. Shouldn’t they have saved the first appearance from this collection for a major red carpet moment?
This is not an ordinary TV spot. CCTV Spring Festival Gala is the Chinese Superbowl in terms of rating. Actually that is an understatement. It is “currently the most watched annual Arts and Performance event anywhere in the world” (Wiki).
The probably didn’t loan her it since the collection has been avaliable to buy for quite a while now.
The colors of this dress are wonderful and just the thing to brighten up the totally white landscape around here! I don’t like the tights, and something about the skirt doesn’t look quite right, but otherwise it’s a great choice..
Chinese girls wear tights with everything…. so this shouldn’t be a big surprise…
Belive me, I’m in China since half a year.
more people watch the spring gala than any red carpet event so why not?
I wouldnt have thot anyone could have pulled off that skirt.. but she does and looks so beautiful doing it… im really not bothered by the tights…
Very unflattering “skirt”, IMO it looks more like an old curtain. This is sad because I really love the bodice!
And even though she wore the “skirt” why wear it with tights? What was she/her stylist thinking??
Agreed – looks like a curtain.
Nice from the waist up though.
She looks great – from the hips up. The skirt, the tights, no no no. Even she looks like she’s thinking “I know, I’m wearing a lampshade.”
Haha lampshade was the first thing that popped in my head as well. Love the top part though.
Sartorial AND editorial. This dress is too comical to be taken seriously. For me, that is. She looks like Judy Jetson in that get-up.
This is a shame.
It’s a brave choice but I think she pulls it off. I think the tights work as they go with the heaviness of the dress’s fabric.
