Blake Lively In Marchesa – 2011 National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Gala

Blake Lively looked as beautiful as ever on the red carpet at the 2011 National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Gala in New York City last night.

I love her plum Marchesa Spring 2011 dress.

The suedette laser cut sculpted sleeve cocktail dress with low cut back doesn’t have as much details as the runway version.

Her version feels muted in comparison, but it’s event appropriate. The runway version would work better at a Premiere.

I loved her aqua jewels, but I’m not a fan of the Burberry heels.

I’m not a season snob, but these Fall 2008 heels look really dated. They take a lot away from her overall look.

I can only appreciate this look from the ankle up.

This is a mess for me. Her version of the dress takes away the stunning original detail and looks unflattering, the shoes are hideous and that yurqoise jewellery looks like something you see on women in retirement villages in Miami. It just looks tacky to me. Sge could have pulled off the oiginal look, she needs to accessorise a little less.
    Great legs tho…

Love, love, love! I’m never tired of Blake!

    • Linda January 12, 2011 at 21:07 #

me neither, she’s gorgeous and original here.

I think she needs to change her make-up artist. If you can check the HQ version, her make up looks really bad. I am not sure either she or her make-up artist is too obsessed with tanned skin. It aged her rather than mature her.

Don’t like it in front, but the back of the dress is stunning

Love the dress colour more than the dress itself. I usually like a pop of colour but in this case the turquoise does not quite work-this type of pairing works better with oxblood rather than plum-many years ago Kiera Knightly attempted the same sort of thing at the Oscars with Bulgari and pulled it off. The structure of the shoes don’t work with the dress . However despite all these niggles she looks stunning.

I hate it!!!!!! She completely ruined it with those heels!!!!!! And, I really prefer the runway dress to her version. So sad, because Blake has not been dressing well lately.

Very beautiful. Her face looks so stunning.I also like the shoes, they’re a original choice.

  8. Marvel January 12, 2011 at 13:22 #

I like the dress and that she muted it for the event and the shoes arent too bad. I just hate the bracelet. The earrings I can live with but that bracelet is to OTT.

Still nice to see her on the Red Carpet

  9. Anita January 12, 2011 at 13:26 #

She looks stunning – love the colour of the dress and the pop of turquoise. But I do have to agree about the shoes – maybe cos I hate T-bar style shoes.

  10. Sasha January 12, 2011 at 13:30 #

I’m the opposite, I love the shoes but not the jewelry

    • Sasha January 12, 2011 at 13:31 #

ok I don’t like the shade of the shoes but I figure blend in more sans flash

  11. Helen January 12, 2011 at 13:59 #

I would have loved to have seen her in the dress as it was presented! She would have worked it!

    • noo January 12, 2011 at 14:52 #

yea it’s too bad she wore this version of it, im still hoping that someone else would wear the original version, but i can’t quite imagine who…..

  12. Emma January 12, 2011 at 14:01 #

I like the dress, it’s very beautiful. But I don’t liker Blake in it. Those shoes make my eyes hurt, they are so ugly.

And what is it with Blake and her constant inability to pick beautigul jewelry!? I’ve seen HQ pics and the jewelry looks like something you would buy at H&M.

  13. Hermione Weasley January 12, 2011 at 14:04 #

I love the purple + aqua combo. It’s perfection!

  14. Lils January 12, 2011 at 14:22 #

I love the runway version of the dress but not Blake’s. First, I don’t like purple and second I wish she had kept the detailing of the runway version.
I don’t like T-bar style shoes and the colour just don’t complement the dress. I love the model’s shoes, they are divine!
I do like her jewelry and hair though.

  15. Nikki January 12, 2011 at 14:40 #

I love the dress and the combination of purple and turquoise is beautiful. But her shoes looks awful. I agree that they ruined the entire look.

  16. luiza January 12, 2011 at 14:55 #

i’m not that kinda person who feels that WOW factor in everything blake wear, but i really love this look!

  17. Matt January 12, 2011 at 15:26 #

Love this woman but sometimes I feel like standing behind her and make sure her head doesn’t tilt to the side

  18. summer January 12, 2011 at 15:48 #

shoes are very ugly, jewelery is bad too and ı dont like make up.
leighton meester was in regis and kelly yesterday, can you say what she wore

  19. niya January 12, 2011 at 16:07 #

She looks gorgeous in the dress but I’m 100% with you on the heels, i’m surprised though because she usually pulls everything together pretty smoothly, the heels make it look messy somehow.

The !st view I had of Blake in this Marchesa dress was from the back and I thought I was going to love it but then she turned around and I felt let down.
I don’t mind the modifications Blake did, it’s just that I don’t like this dress to begin with. The fabric is horrid and it feels unfinished.

  21. Brooke January 12, 2011 at 16:41 #

I dislike this look from neck to toe. Obviously Blake is pretty, that’s inarguable. But the dress is a failure – the microsuede it is made of is chintzy and is a horrible choice to complement lasercut detailing, plus the color of it is anemic and the cut unflattering (how do you NOT flatter a body like hers?). Add her couldn’t-be-more-poorly-chosen accessories, which are cheap, tacky and the wrong color, and shoes which would be lovely in many other contexts but not this one, and we end up at a thoroughly tasteless showing. Sometimes Marchesa gets it right, but so much of the time it is dead wrong.

    Buh-bye heels! *waves*

I’m honestly kind of over Blake Lively. There’s always so much of a hype wherever she goes, but her fashion choices aren’t *that* amazing.

  23. Hannah January 12, 2011 at 17:21 #

Although I agree that the modifications on the laser cutting make it mroe event appropriate, I do nto see why one would not wait until the beautiful laser cutting, which makes hte dress so special, was event appropriate to wear it then. I do like her chocie of blue accessories though, I detest the shoes, they look beyond 2008 in terms of dating, they jsut arent very nice shoes. I do appreciate she did something with her hair, ish. I also appreciate the shoulders, whichwouldn;t have worked withthe dress if it had laser cutting down the front, so I am glad she attempted to include it in some way.

  24. Lukkiee January 12, 2011 at 17:29 #

I love the color of the dress and the jewels! But it lacks in comparison to the gorgeous original version :( I also don’t like those shoes and would have expected her to wear Chanel now that she is a official brand ambassador. Sorry Blake I love you, but maybe next time!

  25. samaira January 12, 2011 at 18:29 #

Ah you are right FC , Blake always manages to get an opinion this website, lol.

I dont know what it is about her but as much as she tries to go for that ‘oh I am so stylish look ‘, She comes across soooo calculative about her clothes and the way she styles them. I just dont feel her in this like many other occasions.

The original dress is fun and has that uniqueness but its all lost in Blake’s version. I am totally disappointed with her shoe choice and omg that hideous bracelet. She needs to hire a stylist pronto coz she is such a beautiful girl.

  26. Carolina January 12, 2011 at 20:02 #

I’m not loving her look. But it doesn’t really matter bacause she still looks beautiful.

  27. Jones19 January 12, 2011 at 20:30 #

I completely agree FC. Those heels look really dated but otherwise she looks fab. Love the unexpected color combo of the aquamarine jewels with the purple dress. Divine.

  28. KateS January 13, 2011 at 01:10 #

I like the colour combination of the jewels and the dress, but either purple is not Blake’s colour or her make up artist has some explaining to do, because she looks ill in that closeup.
For all the detailing and decorations, this is a surprisingly dull look overall.

  29. mochababe73 January 13, 2011 at 02:03 #

I actually like the heels and the bracelet. The dress is ugly, and that color is not for someone as young as Blake. She should have worn the silver version.
    Boooooring!

  30. Olivia January 13, 2011 at 05:28 #

she looks really awesome but I just can’t stand the shoes! What a shame! However, she’s still a BDOTW contender imo.

  31. Emi January 13, 2011 at 08:53 #

The original version of the dress is very beautiful, I like the color she chose but she could keep all the details. I really dislike those heavy shoes, the dress is so elaborate that she could choose simple pumps or sandals. The hair is a mess and what was she thinking when she chose that bracelet? Again, another mistake, she shouldn’t be so proud to tell that she doesn’t have a stylist, supposing that it’s true.
