At this point on a Sunday morning after completing my BDOTW post I’m just about to head off to the gym, but I was so disturbed by Marion Cotillard’s look at the 2010 Marrakech Film Festival Opening Ceremony that I have to address it now.
The French actress has gone from magnifique to tragique in the space of 12 months.
Her first red carpet appearance of 2010 when she glowed in Elie Saab Couture at the SAG Awards seems like a lifetime ago now.
I’ve tried to justify some of her recently looks as one-offs but her continual slide cannot go unnoticed anymore.
Marion wore a Christian Dior Spring 2011 printed halter maxi dress with a keyhole detail and feathered accents on the shoulders.
The dress is beautiful, so where did it go wrong?
I blame that poodle perm, the make up and her modified dress isn’t particularly flattering.
The drop-waist runway version is much more appealing.
Dita von Teese or Eva Green would’ve pulled off this look, but Marion totally fails.

She looks strange… She has put on so much weight… Many people here in France say that she might be pregnant!!
I noticed the weight gain, too. I thought she might be packing up the pounds for a film role. Either way, she looked terrible.
Can we pleeeaasse not focus on weight? Skinny women can be badly dressed, plump women can be beautifully dressed. The real issue is the outfit and the styling. (Besides, her weight looks perfectly healthy to me.)
Sorry FC, I disagree about the dress. I think that print looks, well, cheap. The clown makeup, slightly stoned expression and hair are just making everything worse but the dress was a bad place to start.

That was one of my favorite dresses from the show. While everybody else hated the clothes I said I love it and I am sure it’ll be perfect on the red carpet.
And then Marion ruins my dreams. Honestly, if she continues like this I don’t even wanna see her on the red carpet again. Ever. She looks worse than a pornstar.

i do really love her so much, especially on the red carpet, and now when i read her name im always frightened she would be wearing something….hm like that

I love Marion Cotillard but you are so right that she is going downhill in the fashion department. This look is absolutely horrendous. Mostly thanks to the makeup and tasteless hair.
At the rate we are getting some terrible red carpet looks, i am surprised you haven’t started a worst dressed poll each week.
I thought this dress looked horribly cheap on the runway, with its garish print and the lame feather-work, when it was shown in October. For a gown that will probably retail for somewhere around US$8000-9000 when it hits the stores, it looks remarkably tacky to me.
Unfortunately, Marion has lowered it even further in my estimation. It doesn’t appear to fit her properly around the waist and is too long. The hair only makes it more unfortunate. Poor Marion, she really has been on a downward sllide this year.
I agree, while I love a print, this is a hideous-tacky dress. When I saw it on the runway I wondered if removal of the feathers could possibly make it work on the RC, but looking at Marion now, I think it’s beyond redemption.

Why Marion why?! You’re one of the most gracious actress and I would never predict that you’ll be in the top on list of the worst dressed of the year but that’s exactly where this look should be.

Plus I’m starting to feel that she and Dior are not a match made in heaven anymore. Her last disaster outfit was also Dior and it’s getting worse.

I’m actually with you. I’m not a big fan of the make up. But I like the dress. With the feathers. And I don’t hate the hair. I have hair which is that curly naturally (and I’m Caucasian) and while my hair is longer now, I have had it that short and I thought I looked pretty good. But apparently not… Hideous.
I agree, it’s a mess. But Marion began a musical career six month ago with an alternative french rock band. Maybe she’s trying to erase her image a bit smoother for sticking to her new occupation …
I will nto go through all the reasosn why this is wrong, that would be way too long, but i will state the obvious inadequacies. firstly, the dress was hideous anyway, and only a few select, skinny tall(sorry) people could pull this off, think zoe saldana. Also, th emodification do not work, the feathers need room to breathe. Also, the perm is actually making me scared. The makeup is beyond X-factor level of atrocity, and the boobs are so far beyond the realms of reality, let alone sanity, it is scary. She used to be a chic, rare creature, who was delicate and immaculate all in one, whilst wearing daring, beautiful clothes. what the hell happened?
drugs are not even an explination for me. In short, i am regretting eating anything prior to seeing this photo, in fear of regurgitating it.
Advice, get rid of the implants and the dior contract. I am in fear, because there seems to be a diro contract curse, and god forbid this happens to natalie portman.

Absolutely agree with everything you’ve said. I think she made a pretty bad dress look even worse.
Funny you should mention Natalie Portman as well – I thought she looked pretty bad in the shapeless black Dior she wore to the Black Swan premiere last week. I’m not sure why these Dior representatives aren’t choosing to wear Dior’s magnificent enchanted garden A/W couture collection instead of this stuff.

i don’t even know where to begin. i completely agree with you. this look is a TOTAL FAIL. while i tend to like it when celebrities and their stylists get creative enough to venture away from direct runway looks, this dress would’ve looked just fine had she styled it in the same way.

Please don’t blame Dior. She has put on a lot of weight and I think is trying to distract us through weirder and weirder hair and make up. This is a beautiful dress when worn correctly.
Definitely she’s put on some weight, but there’s nothing wrong with her body now, except that she doesn’t seem to know how to dress it. I’m not sure it was ever a beautiful dress, but certainly the way she’s wearing it isn’t helping.
This is bad but I hope she returns to looking fabulous.

When I saw this look, I thought “Rihanna wannabe.” With the hair and the out there dress, that’s what Marion reminded me of. But unlike Rihanna, Marion doesn’t have what it takes to pull this off. A really bad look.

I love dress, but the hair makes it look like its from he 80s. If she had worn her hair down like she did at the 2008 Oscars, this would be perfection. Hair can save an outfit or make it worse….the girl needs a new stylist.

This is the first time I saw the celebs looks way worse than the runway model.. Usually the runway model looks super skinny and weird looking compared woth the celebs, but somehow thus time.. the runway model looks like celeb more than the celeb itself.. I always loved marion.. I hope she’ll back to her fashion sense like before.. ^^

This is the polar opposite of her sleek, streamlined L’Wren Scott look at the “Inception” LA premiere that I loved so much just a few months ago! I wouldn’t have believed this a difference this huge would have even been possible in such a short span of time.
I think everybody is overreacting a little bit. I’m not saying she looks good. Yes she looks atrocious here but saying that she deserves to be on the worst dressed list of the year?
The only other look i recall that have been hideous was her dior bin liner. She IS lacking in appearances, but only a few posts ago did she win best dressed.
Everyone has a bad (or shockingly horrible) day or two but that isn’t to reverse her years of red carpet perfection.

Completely. She and chanel would make sweet, sweet love together. About the eye bleeds, stop looking at hideous photos like this, avoid bright light, sharp objects and loud prints, and to avoid rubbign salt into the wound, do not decide to look back at marion circe 2007/8, it is just too painful.

This was confirmed today, Marion is pregnant, it would be for spring, which means she was pregnant with at least 3 or 4 months for this ceremony. It explains a lot of things
