Charlene Wittstock was ever so enchanting again as she arrived at the Monaco National Day Gala Concert last week.
Sporting an old Hollywood marcel wave hairstyle, she shimmers on the red carpet wearing yet another look from Armani Privé’s Fall 2010 collection.
Her strapless fully beaded ombre gown had been mentally reserved for many stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie and Cate Blanchett, but Charlene more than does this gown justice.
Charlene’s dress has been slightly modified from the runway as her gown has been cut straight whereas the models gown is rounded on the bodice.
An elegant blush shrug and black clutch complete her look.

Love everything except for the shrug, it somehow brings focus to her shoulders, which is the only thing we shouldn’t be looking at when we see her. They are too broad and don’t need to be highlighted.
That’s exactly what I focused on intially…her broad shoulders…unfortunate additon to the otherwise gorgeous look
Yes, it sadly makes her head look really small–probably would have worked if the shrug were up on her shoulders.
I was going to say the exact same thing. It makes it look like she has popeye style arms! But luuurrrrvvveee the reat.
This is stunning! She sure has class.
I can see how Charlene was a swimmer champion. Spectacular shoulders!
Great to see a curvaceous woman work her fine body! She is an Olympic swimmer, hence the shoulders. Would like to take a brush to that stiff looking hair and give her a more relaxed look. That being said, I saw photos of the princesses Caroline & Stephanie at the same event, and Charlene is the one with real style!
Looks lovely except for the shrug.
It makes her look wider than she is.
Agreed. Maybe it looked better in person, but this shot makes it look yuck.
Gorgeous dress without the shrug!
She could have done without the shrug. It’s distracting.
She is an olympic swimmer and therefore has massive shoulders and a very large frame. She will need to wear couture in order to disguise these features. The dress works on her.
BDOTW nominee I say. I want her to wear more than Armani, you know?
She would be a vision in Marchesa or Elie Saab.
Frills and ruffles and any fussiness will look really awful on her. Maybe Saab but not Marchesa. She needs simplicity and clean lines: Armani, Jil Sander, Calvin Klein. Anything girlie will turn her into a drag queen.
IMO she has a very similar build to Venus Williams, and Venus wears anything and usually looks good. BTW just because she has an athletic frame does not mean she has to dress androgynously.
I don’t like the shrug and the hair… Besides that, she looks nice!
What a lovely Princess! I love her look but let’s take a look at Prince Albert’s clothes! What a mess…
He seems to be wearing some sort of traditional uniform (that’s most likely compulsory for the occasion), as you can see the guy behind him is wearing the same. Men from the royal families are often quite constrained in their choice of outfit for formal state occasions.
You’re right A. What a shame, an Armani suit would have been so much better.
If she had raised her dress up more to show less boobage and got rid of the shrug I would have loved this look even more.
For me it doesn´t work at all, all you can see, as it has been already pointed, are her shoulders plus I think the runway neckline is much nicer
I agree, the runway neckline would have been better, with that curve it would have brought your eye to her face and away from her shoulders (which I don’t see as a flaw, just not something she wants to emphasize). The straight across bodice also emphasizes the idea of ‘wide’ .
Apologies but I disagree. If you would put an arc like on the run way the top of her chest would be as wide as her hips and she would look larger. Armani prive is couture which means they fit the dress and change the design to suit your body shape to flatter. You will also notice the spots are larger on her than the model -this is again to make her look smaller. Mr Armani atelier would not make a mistake.
I think you make a great point, the modification does work for her.
I take your point about the hips Lee Anne, and I’m sure Mr. Armani’s atelier would not, as you say, make a mistake……but I do still feel the straight across the bust emphasizes the width of her shoulders; perhaps I am wrong, but then, it is just my own opinion…..I see what you are saying about the spots being larger, nice call : )
I am increasingly sure that she’ll wear Armani for her wedding, aren’t you?
I would guess so
She even looks curvier and with more hips than usual. The shawl kind of emphasizes the waist. I like it on her. She is not ashamed nor afraid to show her shoulders, she usually does that! And to say the truth Albertos’ sisters have more or less the same body shape (and I understad that they are swimmers). She is not out of place, and she looks very classy and even delicate.
she looks like a drag queen.. sorry…
I adore this look, I am so glad she modified the neckline, because although i prefer the crescent neckline (we know mr armani loves moons) I think it would have been unflattering on Charlene. I love how well the gown compliments charlene’s colouring. I do, however, wish her eyebrows were more visible.
Albert on the other hand looks like humpty dumpty.
Love this dress and how easily one colour melts into another!! Elegant and lovely.
I prefer the runway version, because the neck opening is more interesting. The shrug was unnecessary and I think her hair is terrible, it reminds me Shirley Temple!
i don’t like it,the gown is beyond gorgeous on the runway, but alas, it doesn’t translate that well for me on Charlene.
Charlene shouldn’t wear the dress with no shoulders coz her shoulders are so wide and the boots make the dress porn. Terrible on her.
