The best thing about the Lanvin for H&M collection going on sale in the US & Canada today, is that we get to know the rules way in advance of our launch on Tuesday.
I’ve been keeping up with the tweets from across the pond and here is what I’ve figured out.
1. The first 320 people in line will be given 1 of 16 different colour coded wristbands which indicates your time slot to shop. That’s 20 people for each coloured wristband. Even Leigh Lezark waited in line to get the collection.
2. You will only be allowed to purchase 2 pieces per style so be sure of your size.
3. Go with a friend because if you leave the line to pop to the loo for example you may not be able to get back into the line.
4. Find out which stores are stocking the collection in advance and try not to go to the most obvious store that 100s of people are bound to go to. Yes TV crews and photographers will be there, but do you want to shop or do you want to be on telly? (excuse the tough love) Instead of Oxford Street try Brent Cross or High Street Kensington if they stock the collection.
5. Last night people were already selling the collection on eBay using lookbook pictures. I would strongly advise against purchasing the collection on eBay because how can sellers possibly know what to sell if they haven’t physically got it already.
Those of you in the US & Canada let us know how your shopping experience went.
PS. Don’t forget that the collection also goes on sale online at www.hm.com 7am GMT on Tuesday. REGISTER NOW.
UPDATE: In the UK the rules are that you can only purchase 1 item per style.

i’m dying to shop for the collection i wanna be in london right now!
There’s also the option of buying online from the H&M store, why isn’t anyone mentioning this?
I mentioned this in my first post
http://www.redcarpet-fashionawards.com/2010/11/02/lanvin-for-hm-press-day/
This is an update post
no online shopping for US customers. Oh Well
Will any pieces be sold online here in the UK?
yes it goes on sale at 7am gmt
Do you think we’ll actually have time to buy online hun?or will it all sell out in 5 mins?!are there any reports from the states about if online stock is still there?what do you have your eye on FC?good luck for tuesday x
Too many to mention
hii fc,
just to confirm, the collection also available online at 7am right???
thanks for keeping us up to date! absolutely CANNOT WAIT
yep
this collaboration is not that exciting to me. i will pass
me too. i don’t see what the buzz is all about. there is very little lanvin in the collection and the collection is still pricey…
So for each colour time slot, do people only get to shop for 15 minutes?
I would assume that time is allocated to picking want you want from the designated Lanvin for H&M section.
I don’t think that includes trying on and buying time.
Actually you don’t get to try on the clothes, you just choose items you want and you run off to cashier. After those 15 mins spent in the boutique you have to get out so the shoppers after you get to get in and shop.
This is what I’ve heard, but I think it’s pretty true
i saw twit pics of people in the changing rooms trying things on.
Maybe it differs from store to store. I’d be devasted if I got something that doesn’t fit. But I guess that’s why you are allowed two of each style.
Oh well, I guess it does vary from store to store. There are too many people at some boutiques that it’s impossible to waste time on trying on tons of things when others are waiting. Oh well, however it is, we’re all still excited!
Rules to live by! Great post!! Someone needs to hire you to be their super sleuth…like CNN Fashion
xx
Ha…that would be pretty awesome.
I hope you do get to try things on,my card will not take two of everything I like : ( talk about making you work for it!!
This is insane, these rules erase the excitement of feeling a garment, trying it, enjoying the whole process of shopping, especially from a store you know it will please you. It’s exactly like that thing with the USA wedding gowns store, where brides fight for any dress they can, just because it”s cheap. Here, just because it’s Lanvin-cheap.
I totally agree with you! This is just insane. It just goes to show how much clothes companies take advantage of fashion-obsessed people. It’s consumerism in it’s purest form.
Clothes should be more than compulsive shopping.
I find this whole merchandise strategy sad. And what is sadder is that people actually fall for it.
I second that! This is insane…..consumerism gone mad. “And what is sadder is that people actually fall for it.” SPOT ON. Thanks but no thanks Lanvin/H+M, you can keep your stuffy collection.
So very true.
FC you are great for posting this. I wish i saw this before heading out. Got in line at 7 am, store opened at 8am. The ladies section was gated off with security. You get in the section for 15 minutes. They gave gift bags to the first 100 hundred people in line outside before store opened. The gift bag had a red bow and umbrella. I didnt get the gift bag. My time slot was 10am. The 1st people in the 8-815 time slot went in and grabbed everything. It was sad to watch so few people get the best selection. You can purchase two of everything but they didnt stop them from grabbing everything. So by 9am there was no shoes, or bags and few dresses. Women just waited in the section during their time slot for returns from the dressing room. By 930 the entire display, mannequins, posters was taken down and people were just waiting in the section for any possible returns from the dressing room. The men selection was not gated off and you could just shop at will. I did get a cute men’s t-shirt, nothing else! The men’s section was cleared by 8:45. With only the $249 wool coats left and a pair of black shoes. The entire collection was well made, nothing looked cheap. Everything looked better on then on the hanger. There were some arguments with security, women waiting. But you could tell they didnt mean to get CRAZY. I enjoy the experience. When something is exclusive we act CRAZY! I do think H&M should’ve limited people to choose one item that’s it. The sales person gave me a garment bag, hanger ,& shopping bag along with my t-shirt purchase. So i have something. So get there early to be in that 1st or 2nd time slot. I must hit online to get those shoes. Oh largest size for women clothes 10, shoe size 11. Sorry so long.
It sounds just like I imagined it to be.
I’m gonna try online first and if I don’t get anything by 8am, I going to Brent Cross my nearest store.
I’m glad you got at least one thing
Thankyou for this little anecdote, it was very useful. I am almost crying Iam SO excited.
.
I am trying online first, so that if I can get what I want, I can still go to school, if not it is Brent Cross for me. My mummy said she would drive me
I am disappointed in teh size 10 thing, because I might just fit into that. Luckily I am ill so I might lose some weight – Yay!
I agree about limiting people to a certain amount of items, especially after what you have told us all about the quick diminish of stocks.
I really want a goody bag!
I cannot chose which dress I wan thtough, I might get a tshirt and skirt, because I think that might be less popular, and suit me better. But I am so tempted by various dresses, mainly the candy pink one!
I might see you there because I’m gonna try online first and if I don’t get anything by 7.40, then I’ll go to Brent Cross as it’s my closest store. The problem is they will not have a large selection as its a smaller store.
Yes that’s s annoying, but I tihnk I have more chance, as you said, of getting what I want there than at oxford street. Either way, my school is close to oxford street so I can go there after if I ahve to, or I can ask my mother to take me to westfields. I am so scared I wont get anything.
Me too. I’ll be so disappointed if I don’t get anything.
LADIES HUGE TIP: **** AS SOON AS YOU GET THERE ask for the employee who is doing the “Holds lists.” They will take your name/number and call you for the items on the mannequins, and in the outer window displays! We got 2 pairs of sunglasses!*** Good luck, it was a MADHOUSE in Boston.
thanks for the tip x
I so do not shop like this. Thanks but no thanks.
It is a lot of work and effort granted
I have 2 Lanvin dresses which I purchased before I was a blogger, now this is the only way I can afford Lanvin, plus the collection is so cute.
I understand and if I was in my teens and twenties would be sleeping out on the pavement.
I went today to the HM at Herald Square (New York) and I was amazed by the organization of the sale. I arrived at 6am and there was a line already. Half-hour later the staff gave us a Lanvin <3 HM handbag with a scarf inside and a magazine. At 7 they gave everybody wristbands. Mine was for 8h45. They also offered coffee and croissants. When I came back I was pretty amazed to see that there were plenty of options in colors and sizes. The staff was really helpful asking which size we needed and getting everything they could.
I got to try each one of the items I wanted and I could even ask for another size once I was at the fitting room.
I had to wake up early but the shopping experience was great. No problems at all.
Sounds very well organized.
Thanks for sharing
a friend picked up a couple pieces for me after much research i did before hand cause i had to work. but what was pretty funny (or not) is that the h&m by where i work had a lineup but they didn’t even stock this collection. some people should have done their homework and realized only the downtown store had the collection here.
Some of the online blogs gave the wrong info. At 6 am I was outside the store at 42nd and 5th. No line. Thank god I had written a few addresses and there was another store 5 block down again on 5th and they had it!
Poor me, half the world away!
I am not sure what is the big fuss about the Lanvin for H&M. People have been blogging about it and talking about it for days and patiently wait for the launch. I don’t remember that last time I had to wake up early to go shopping except for those days when I was still in college and worked at Neiman Marcus. I woke up early to shop the employee sample sales. Who wouldn’t if you can get desginer shoes, clothes, houseware items for literally nothing. I hope the Lanvin for H&M collection looks as nice person as they do on picture and video I saw, and the quality should be decent or close to that of real Lanvin. If the quality is like H&M and paying $200 or more for a H&M dress is a bit much while I can get real desginer quality at Neiman Marcus.com or their last call store, and or other online discounted desginer retailers like theoutnet.com which always have great designer pieces at an affordiable price and somtime is as low as what you would pay for a H&M dress.
I am suspicious of these designer collections for very average priced stores. Currently in Australia there is a “Stella McCartney for Target” collection being marketed. This is the second time. The first time was in 2007 and I actually bothered to have a look. The quality was not there and some of the designs were not very wearable, although being very pricey for a store like Target.. I bought nothing. A number of weeks later many of the items were on sales racks at drastically reduced prices. I will not be bothering this time. I agree with phuong above. I would rather spend my hard earned money on REAL designer clothes than average clothing in a chain or department store which is marked up just because it has a designer label stuck on it. It is a cynical marketing ploy, and obviously very successful. However if one compares the items available with the “real” collections, it is chalk and cheese.
LOL! This post makes me feel like I’m preparing for a hurricane or some kind of battle.
Here in LA, the Beverly Center H&M was a crazy house. The women’s section was sectioned off, and if you were one of those who did not get a wristband, you were told to come back at 1:30. When they finally let everyone in, people went crazy and the racks were empty in about 10 minutes. The quality of the garments is absolutely great though. Well worth their price. The mens section was not sectioned, but the shoppers were just as grabby. As soon as something was put on the rack, somebody quickly scooped it up before you even got a chance to get a good look.
I was there at 6 am in the 5th avenue store (one of two as I went to one on 42 and 5th and the bloody website got it wrong!)
The line was not too bad and I was one of the first 321. We went in the store at 8 am and most of us went to the men sections which was manic.
My allocated time was 10.40 though I got in the shopping area around 10.10.
One quick tip, stand by the changing rooms and as the staff bring in stock in the Lanvin section they let you take dresses from them and one two occasions even went to get the right size. So for those with no bracelet and who don;t care about shoes (you definitely have to be in the Lanvin section for that) you can get the clothes.
I think this whole operation was other thought. People were upset and it ended up being more grating than needed. It was my first time doing this and the ladies I met in the line told me that the previous system was much better.
Still the collection is great. 3 dresses and two shoes later and I am happy, I will go back in a few days in case there are still styles around. Again I was told for Jimmy Choo there was stock for the rest of the week!
The collection is beautiful and well made.
Oh and one lace top. I can already tell it will be one of my favourite pieces.
Thanks. I’m hearing so many mixed reviews on experiences. I guess it depends on if the person was successful or not.
I like this system, because how can you shop with 100s of people grabbing clothes without having time to browse?
I would be chaos if they just opened the doors to everyone at one time
Fair point. Like I said it was my first time. Oh and one lady came to the front of the line as she had not been aware of the sale. After having founf out that she needed a bracelet and would have to wait until all with bracelets had a chance to shop se disappears. Only to appear 20 minutes later with a h&m sale assistant claiming that she had been in the line early in the morning and had accidently not been given a bracelet.I can only imagine she bribbed the girl. Anyway cudos to the manager as she reiterated that you cannot get in without the bracelet.
I want to cry because I’m absolutely in love with this collection and have no ways on getting my hands on them. They don’t ship to Australia or Malaysia, do they?
I can’t shop on-line from Italy, unbelievable!!! I’d love to buy the necklace with pearls and plastic flowers and a t-shirt, very very cute, but I won’t go to Milan to do that. Personally the fact that only few people will purchase whatever they want is EXPLOITATION of people’s dreams. Is not absurd that in Italy only one store sell these collections? I appreciate L. Lezark for the fact that she didn’t take advantage of her fame. I saw on tv what happened in Milan for the Roberto Cavalli’s collection, everybody was crazy, grabbing whatever they can, with no limits, no wristbands, crazy and dangerous because people could easily fell. Is this democratic? No!!! Is this a big publicity for HM? Of course it is. Every magazines, every newspaper talks about this incredible opportunity, and it’s false. 60.000.000 of inhabitants and only 100 people can purchase it? This means that if you’re rich you can buy whatever you want, if you’re not, stay in line and hope to find the right size.
I hope ladies don’t run into each other at Holidays parties all wearing the same Lavin for H&M dress now:).
LOL! It is bound to happen.
I really dont like the way h&m does these collections. The whole point when they sell the idea to the designer they want to collaborate with is that they will be able to sell their clothes to a wider audience, however because h&m limits the amounts soo much that the audience is only widened to the people that can get to the store in the first few hours it is there. I would have given anything to have just one piece, like the pink necklace, but because I’m a student away at school where we don’t have h&m my only chance is buying the items that are so heavily marked up on e-bay. Karl Lagerfeld said he would never do another collection with h&m for this very reason he considered it just snobbery.
Tsc tsc…
I called the stores again this mornign in case there were more of thecollection lingering around. Most said they sold out. I finally called the one on 5h avenue and it turns out they all send their collection to that store. So the guy on the phone told me to be there tomorrow morning at 10am. All items on the manequins will be sold as well as the left overs from the other stores. I guess I will be back. I need to change my shoes.
Good work. I hope you get something you want
do you know how to find out what store has which stock, i live in bristol and we basically get barely anything new down here.
thanksif anyone can help, super excited for it !!!
the stores are here http://www.hm.com/gb/#/Lanvin/
Hi, I just re-read the H adn M rules, and obviously they have been changed since the US launch. The 320 first customers is the same, as is the fact that mens do not have this rule (but also do nto have brent cross
)
Now, only ONE per item is alowed.
I honestly, as scary as that seems (I need the right size) , am relieved, it jsut makes it seem that much mroe attainable of getting a piece.
I hope I am nto being annoying and being like the last person to tll you this, but I thought it was important.
thanks. that is a relief to me too.
Anyone know how the sizes are? I heard some people had to go up 2 sizes!?
Actually the Oxford Street stores were very well organised and there was not that big a queue. I got there at 6.10am and got in the first 20 group. They only had one of each size of one dress (!) but apart from that they kept restocking. I heard that the website crashed which I think was a little bit unfair for others who could not make it to a store. I bought a dress without trying it on and it is a bit on the small size but it is definitely not a whole size smaller. Will just motivate me to lose those last few pounds!
it was a nightmare:at 6.45 the website was already having problems with the “we are really popular” sign up.after 7 i couldn’t even get into the shop online section,by 7.30 i managed to get at the front of the “queue” and picked out the only t shirt that hadn’t sold out and that was it as the skirts had already gone.proceeded to checkout only to have ERROR_UNKNOWN pop up on the screen i tried and tried and at 8.15 the site crashed :”technical difficuties”. i wasn’t that worried because i had the tshirt in my basket…OH NOOOOO when the website was back online the shirt had dissappeared gone forever SOLD OUT.i emailed and called the cs, they said having it in the basket wasn’t a guarantee and that i should keep an eye on the website as some pieces might become available they were only “temporarily out of stock”. how the hell is that my problem, it was the website that crashed! as a last resource i got the tube+ bus at 12,with my baby off to oxford circus: the o c east shop had nada just a few dresses and the staff was rude.went to regent street….a few more pieces like shoes and the lace skirt but now tshirts and now ruffle skirt. i stood around stalking the hm staff. a girl took pity on me and gave me her tshirt after i saw her a bit unsure about the possible purchase and a staff member brought ou a couple of ruffled skirts in cream and one black. i had to choose i picked the cream one.i’m really happy i got 2 items out of it but it was hell.next time i will not rely on the website, the stores do stock enough pieces to cater to people who don’t make the 320 chosen ones but you have to be there 2 hrs after the doors open to get anything decent.
the website was down from 6am. Next time I won’t rely on it either.
I too had to head to the store but I went to Brent Cross instead of the west end. I knew it would be hell.
Sorry you had to do through so much, but I’m glad you got something.
Brent cross was amazing. I really had low expectations, but I could not have been happier, they had what i wanted, and hte time constraint meant i didn’t buy anything i would not have been as over the moon with (as the one dress I got, I cannot imagine having bought 2 dresses for some bizarre reason), except some earrings, which i am returning.
Brent cross is the best.
Brent cross was great. The service was impeccable
Can I just say I was so disapointed from the sale today. H&M didn’t release the collection to Bristol (they havent released any of the major collections here either, like the Jimmy Choo collection) and the nearest store was Birmingham and there was no way I could get there and be back in time for school so I tried the website which crashed as soon as I tried to get on at 6:45, I then spent over an hour and a half refreshing the page and got nothing. At 11:00 the website was back online but unfortunately by then everything was sold out! I had saved up all my pocket money since september so I could get something but it was a wasted effort. I was so upset, no one I knew could get anything either. Hopefully the next time something like this happens H&M will try its best to get the collections to other parts of the counrtry other then the major cities.
received a call from h&m customer service, i wrote them 3 emails about the poor online shopping service: not only did they give me a voucher but they found my first choice between the 3 tshirts (even though it said sold out on the website) in my size and it will be shipped late nov/early dec. i suggest calling the customer service if you still need an item….
Wow
That is amazing service
Well done to you.
