My reaction to this was “Nooooooooooooooo. How could she?”
Kerry Washington wore one of my Top 10 looks from New York Fashion Week’s Spring 2011 presentations to the Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards in New York City last night.
Her Ports 1961 Spring 2011 dress was worn with a white belt tied to the waist which takes this perfect embellished dress from a 10 to a 4.
I can’t even express how disappointed I am with how she styled this look.
What was she thinking? Especially with those batwing sleeves.
Sometimes I wish stars would consider that the dress is styled a particular way on the runway for a reason.

I think she kind of lost it…
One thing we do know is that she was trying to accentuate her waist. Beautiful dress, beautiful woman…she still looks gorgeous. BTW, have you seen her Elle and Essence cover?

I’ll say! (to FC’s last comment. I think this applies to the intended length of a lot of dresses too). Plus, the fact that it’s a bright white belt isn’t helping.
I’m heartbroken because I absolutely LOVED that dress as well… oh geez Louise… normally I don’t like re-runs, but I pray someone else does justice to this ethereal creation at soem point in the future (hopefully the distant-ish future so we can erase the memory of this in our minds first)

The movement and flow of the dress is destroyed by the belt. The belt also cuts in half and covers the embellishment, which is a major feature of the dress. The length is odd too. The dress is shorter and the transparent overlay longer than the runway version. Fashion fail.

jeez,what was she thinking,i don’t hate white but it doesn’t work with this dress at all……nude would’ve been perfect,good god…..it’s unbelivable,doesn’t she have a stylist???
Oh my! Why wear this dress if you’re going to do all it takes to cover up the beautiful embellishment with the hair, the belt. The shoes are also a no-no. Too bad since she usually gets it right.
I completely agree with you. The dress is supposed to be flowy and ethereal. Then she pairs it with that stark white belt and white shoes.
Her stylists are Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn. They also style Beyonce and Rihanna.

I am all for a belt cinching your waist for definition but this just makes her look large in the mid-section. This dress didn’t need a belt. What a terrible look.
I agree – I presume she wore the belt to show her waist but it didn’t work and she just looks boxy. The poor dress is lost – I agree with others and hope that someone else will resurrect this look properly.
This is one of the many reasons why I cant warm up to Kerry Washington on the red carpet

I totally agree! That was one of my favorite dresses from that show, and she made it look so bad.
