Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: September 2010

Jil Sander’s Spring 2011 collection is easily one of my favourite collections of the season.

From the colourful invitation I was expecting pops of colour, but I couldn’t have imagine so much colour with shocking pink, purple, magenta, coral, red, electric blue, green, yellow and orange.

Floral prints, bold vertical and horizontal stripes broke up the solid palette.

We were presented with bold shapes, oversizing, layering and maximizing to create a new silhouette.

Simple white tees were paired with floor-length skirts. Some were fitted, had peplums at the waist or were tulips shaped.

Pants ranged from fitted to oversized. A navy pair took up the whole width of the runway.

Structured coats, blazers, parkas, mini dresses, maxi dress, and skirts make up the rest of this beautiful collection.

Key accessories included shoppers and bags in a multitude of materials, patterns and colours randomly layered.

Sunglasses with coloured frames and mirrored lenses.

Pumps, slingbacks and sandals gave us a glimpse of fluorescent sole.

Favourites: Orange peplum skirt and white ensemble with watercolour print

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Tilda Swinton, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Liv Tyler, Lily Cole, Chloe Sevigny and Katie Holmes

Blumarine Spring 2011 presentation started off with models striking a pose at the top of the runway all wearing leopard print looks in pink, turquoise, orange and pistachio.

The uber glam feminine collection progressed to tighter and shorter looks which were expected and delighted many of the women in the front row wearing short tight Blumarine Fall 2010 dresses.

We saw mini-dresses, billowing caftans, tunics, cropped long sleeved tops and pants.

This may not be to everyone’s taste but I enjoyed this wild, colourful collection which presented exotic and sexy new looks.

Key accessories included fringed bags, an abundance of colourful enamel leopard print bracelets, gold rings, pendant necklaces, belts with gold rams heads and grommet strappy sandals and booties.

Favourites: The printed caftans

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Monica Cruz, Katy Perry and Fergie

Emporio Armani’s Spring 2011 collection concentrated around ten elements: glamour, geometric deco, lightness, sheath, daywear, sleekness, shades, shape, form and fancy.

We saw layering with different shapes creating new sleek forms. Stretched see-through tube skirts and leggings were teamed the short dresses, shorts and skirts.

Silk pants with cascading ruffles, shorts, sleek jackets, drawstring pants and cocktail dresses were presented.

The mostly neutral colour palette of grey and beige was presented alongside green, black and watermelon red.

Key accessories included rope, plaited and beaded chokers. A large variety of shoes ranging from wooded wedges to kitten heel booties.

The bags were just as wide ranging from large totes with wooden handles to small box bags.

Front Row: Megan Fox, Brian Austin-Green, Jada Pinkett-Smith & Willow Smith

Favourites: Watermelon dress above and the printed top paired with shorts and black leggings

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox, Emily Blunt, Natalie Imbruglia and Kristen Stewart

For Gianfranco Ferré’s Spring 2011 collection, Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi presented a very sexy sensual collection.

Bod-con dresses were presented alongside sleek evening gowns, cocktail dresses, pant suits, skirt suits and flirty mini dress.

With this wearable collection you can go from a Grecian goddess dressed in a white and black chiffon gown to a sexy temptress in a black leather dress.

The colour palette was mostly made up of white and black looks with pops of fuchsia pink, gold and some colour block looks.

Key accessories included wide corset-style belts worn over shirts, pants and dresses.

Bejeweled bags and strappy sandals.

Favourites: Black plunging jumpsuit and pink coat/dress

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Charlize Theron and Blake Lively

January Jones was the first celebrity sighting at Milan Fashion Week.

If you weren’t sure before, I think this officially confirms January as the darling of the brand.

The ‘Mad Men’ actress wore a red halter Versace ensemble which incorporated both the fringing and geometric shapes from the Spring 2011 collection.

A high bouffant, bright red lips and white shoes completed her look.

Versace’s Spring 2011 presentation showcased the Versace Greek motif as the focus for the prints on both the dresses and bags.

Sleek summery silhouettes glided down the runway presenting many opposites: Short dresses with slits against long fringed gowns.

Fun flirty exotic colourful prints and striped dresses against plain sexy dresses.

As someone who worships the house of Versace I found this collection to be very chic, sleek and modern. It was totally refined without losing strength and the trademark Versace sex appeal.

Key accessories included bags in contrasting materials which were decorated with the Versace Greek motif.

The wrap around the ankle heels replaced the towering platforms.
