With jet-lag finally catching up with me, I didn’t know how I was going to make it through House of Holland’s Spring 2011 presentation after arriving in London this morning at 7am.
As the music started and the first model took to the runway, it was jet-lag, what jet-lag?
The colour palette was bold and vivid with aquamarine, forest green, ecru, tan and lilac.
Henry Holland’s inspiration was South Beach after dark, 70s disco and Xanadu which was evident from the bold banana leaf prints and metallic pieces.
The collection was called “Something With A Fringe On Top”, so cue models swishing down the runway with fringed dresses and skirts.
Denim was also featured quite a bit with most of it pleated.
His collection was very much for the bad girl who wants to dress sexy and doesn’t like to conform to the rules. This was perfectly epitomized by the ladies in his front row.
Key accessories included cute furry earrings, furry cuffs, printed bags and Charlotte Olympia platform heels.
Front Row: Lily Allen, Amber Rose, Nicola Roberts, Agyness Deyn, Pixie Geldof and Jamie Winstone
Favourites: The denim pinafore accented with stars which was paired with a pleated skirt and the aqua asymmetrical pleated dress
Who I See Wearing This Collection: Nicola Roberts, Amber Heard, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Zooey Deschanel, Agyness Deyn, Pixie Geldof and Jamie Winstone and Kristen Stewart
Here are a few highs and lows from my week at New York Fashion Week.
Below are my top 10 looks from the shows I attended in no particular order.
HIGHS The Lincoln Center: I was never fond of Bryant Park. The new home for fashion was more spacious, had more natural light and was more organised with a hassle free check in system. The real bonus was that is was right next door to my hotel.
New additions to my schedule: Oscar de la Renta, Donna Karan, Mulberry, Isaac Mirahi, Diane von Furstenberg, Derek Lam, Ralph Lauren, Cynthia Rowley and The Blonds.
Presentations with a twist: Asian prints at Philosophy. Models rotating in and out of the William Tempest presentation. The cabaret girls at The Blonds. The live singer at Carlos Miele. Models walking on a smoke filled runway at Sally LaPointe.
Best Party: Mulberry Party
Random celeb sightings: Kelly Cutrone outside Starbucks on 63rd Street with a queue of people waiting to take their picture with her.
L’Wren Scott and Mick Jagger at the Standard Grill having lunch after her Spring 2011 presentation.
Elisabeth Moss walking near the Apple store on 66th Street alone wearing jeans and a khaki jacket whilst wheeling her suitcase and carrying a Victoria’s Secret shopping bag looking very happy with herself.
Riding an elevator at the Empire Hotel with Stephanie Pratt.
Kelly Rowland in the Spanx suite at the Empire Hotel.
Best/Only Gift: From the lovely Tory Burch team took a few bloggers to lunch (one of the few sit down proper meals I had all week). They kindly gifted us with accessories. I got an olive bag and Sydne aka Think Thru Fashion got some killer booties with neon pink laces. Read more…
Despite Gustavo Cadile’s Spring 2011 collection not having a formal presentation, celebrities have worn more of his Spring collection than any other designer on the red carpet so far.
At the 2010 Emmy Awards Lara Spencer wore a dove grey silk chiffon cap sleeve gown with turquoise beaded neckline and Eva Longoria wore two looks this week.
Gustavo was inspired by the architecture of Venice and the beauty of Angelina Jolie in the movie “The Tourist”.
The collection includes a select of his trademarks gorgeous evening gowns, with more cocktail dresses on this occasion.
The higher hemlines indicate that the designer is aiming to attract younger clientèle.
Gustavo knows how to make a woman feel sexy, from the high hemline, open backs, plunging necklines and embellishments to dazzle at any event.
Megan Fox would have a fun filled day with that uber sexy navy dress with the thigh-high split.
Favourites: The pink off-the-shoulder gown and the black gown
Who I See Wearing This Collection: Megan Fox, Angelina Jolie, Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Jordana Brewster, Katherine Heigl, Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz
Thanks for all your comments and your patience whilst I was running between shows.
By the time you read this I will already be on a plane home back to London, so see you on the other side.
Can I please ask for you to vote via the Lanvin for H&M widget in the side bar for my site to show an exclusive trailer of the collection. I’m currently 20th so keep voting.
After running back to my hotel to change out of my floral vintage dress which got totally drench in the torrential rain after the Oscar de la Renta presentation, I arrived at the Milk Studio’s for The Blonds Spring 2011 presentation.
I’m glad I did change into jeans and a tee, because my Sunday best would’ve look totally out of place with all the leather, spikes and chains which adorned the guests at this show.
The energy was electric as show started with colourful cabaret girls open dancing with feathered fans.
Once the show started I was excited to see The Blonds trademark corsets.
They totally stole the show for me.
We were also presented with gowns, bedazzled tuxedos, cocktail dresses, embellished pants and neon coloured sequin bikini’s.
Former Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks closed the show.
Key accessories included a gorgeous collection of Louboutin’s
Front Row: Kristin Cavallari
Favourites: Pearl corset and multi-coloured corset
Who I See Wearing This Collection: Katy Perry and Rihanna
