Spring 2010 Trend – Clogs

Clogs clomped their down the runways of Chanel and Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2010 presentations. Those of us who were childs of the 70s and 80s screamed “No, not clogs again.”

For me they weren’t very desirable the first time around, and even with a heel, tassles, buckles and prints I’m still not sold.

From what I remember they were just damn difficult, noisy and painful to walk in, but Uncle Karl and Marc Jacobs are trying to seduce us with clogs this season.

Celebs have already been spotted wearing clogs.

Alexa Chung started the trend back in January at Chanel’s Spring 2010 Couture show in Paris. Most recently Rachel Bilson was the epitome of casual chic wearing a red pair of clogs, whilst a dressed down Ashley Simpson wore a black pair.

  2. nia April 1, 2010 at 18:11 #

thumbs way down. clogs are not cute, even if uncle karl or marc jacobs are doing. its not a good look period.

  3. jamie lynn April 1, 2010 at 18:19 #

thumbs down, down, down! they are THE most unflattering things i have ever seen. you might as well try walking around with bricks strapped to your feet.

  4. Elise April 1, 2010 at 18:28 #

I hate them, they all look awful, no exceptions !

  5. VBlover April 1, 2010 at 18:34 #

clogs are so boring, but I admit to having worn them in the past! I think the real test of these will be to see if Victoria Beckham wears them– which I severely doubt!

    • Fashion Critic April 1, 2010 at 18:37 #

      Not with her bunions

  6. Symon April 1, 2010 at 18:36 #

  7. shubby doo April 1, 2010 at 18:39 #

  8. Carmen April 1, 2010 at 18:40 #

Since I’m a 90s child I’m curious about it and want to try a pair, but I’m not so sure I could find ones I like, they’re not so pretty even being Chanel :S

  9. _danny (aka modman) April 1, 2010 at 18:40 #

thumbs downdowndowndowndowndown. clogs should NEVER come back.. grrr.

  10. Mario April 1, 2010 at 19:06 #

Clogs are not really the shoes I’d wear if I were a woman. lol
They’re not practical at all and I bet very heavy. I honestly do like the Chanel clogs but for magazine and editorial use. Definitely not everyday!
And the Louis Vuitton ones simply make me sick. They’re so ugly. They look like wooden dogs with hair.

  11. Davor April 1, 2010 at 19:29 #

Some trends I will never understand…

  12. The Fashionables April 1, 2010 at 19:50 #

I have always loved clogs. They are trendy and classy. All those clogs are fabulous.I love to buy a pair of them.

  13. Alice Royds April 1, 2010 at 19:56 #

i really hope no one wears these on the red carpet!

    • mol April 1, 2010 at 20:25 #

God help us if that happens! I do like Rachel Bilson’s look though……

  14. Regina April 1, 2010 at 20:08 #

after surgery on my spine i cant wear high heels so clogs is my rescue

  15. Jessica April 1, 2010 at 20:16 #

i honestly thought thumbs down automatically but then i saw clogs with a wedge and thought that i would maybe wear those! lol

  16. Leo April 1, 2010 at 20:25 #

Karl can try, but I’ll never find this to be chic or beautiful.

  17. WendyB April 1, 2010 at 20:28 #

I’ve LOVED clogs since high school in the early ’80s when everyone wore them. I’ve had a black pair for years…but they don’t have that classic clog look with the light wood heel (you can see them in the shoe picture here: http://wendybrandes.com/blog/2008/02/basic-wardrobe-part-ii/). I’m excited that I have all these options for a new pair now!

I am surprised by all of these comments!! I got my JC’s in black a few weeks back and couldn’t be happier! I thought I would never see the day as it was pretty hard for me to quit clogs in the first place! I don’t think it is a trend either, I think it is a new affirmation of a timeless piece. And FYI everyone, they are comfy, NOT heavy and look good with: shorts, skirts, jeans, tights, short OR long dresses.. so YES! I would say versatile AND timeless!!

  19. JJ3 April 1, 2010 at 20:41 #

HIdeous. Soon they’ll make crocs fashionable. They are THAT much out of ideas.

    • Victoria April 2, 2010 at 13:49 #

LOL! :D Well said. I don’t like them and I never will.

  20. L. April 1, 2010 at 20:42 #

Down ! Clogs are really ugly and not sexy at all.
And when you were it it makes an awful noise, like an elephant.

  21. robbie April 1, 2010 at 21:21 #

i would only follow this trend if i had those gorgeous chanel ones. the louis vuitton ones are absolutely FUGLY!

  22. Ev April 1, 2010 at 21:26 #

Uh, they are just ugly IMO. I’ve tried them on once, and they made me feel myself 50 years older. And I hate the noise they’re making! :)

  23. Anissa April 1, 2010 at 21:27 #

The red ones almost work, but nope. Thumbs down!

  24. Sharon April 1, 2010 at 22:53 #

Clogs, bell-bottoms, vests, love beads and ironed hair. I swore I’d never go back there, and I’m sticking to my guns! (Ever fallen off a pair of clogs?)

  25. pinky April 1, 2010 at 23:27 #

    doooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwnnn!
i hate them other shoes would have been a thousand times better for their outfits…

  26. mochababe73 April 2, 2010 at 01:10 #

Thumbs up. I have been wearing clogs for years even while teaching first graders. They look great with boot cut jeans. I would never wear them like they are shown in the pictures. There’s no way that I would put them on with a dress or shorts or anything that shows leg.

  27. flutterbang April 2, 2010 at 04:02 #

    I hate clogs as much as I hate thongs, and that’s a lot…(thongs being flip-flops, not g-string :P)

    • Fashion Critic April 2, 2010 at 09:06 #

      lol :) I thought you meant g-strings

  28. Jolie April 2, 2010 at 04:52 #

I think I’ll pass this time around.

  29. tai'tiana jackson April 2, 2010 at 05:05 #

im not a clog fan and im still not….so that’s a trend i wont be acknowledge this time around…

  30. shuz4ever April 2, 2010 at 07:46 #

Def not jumping onto this bandwagon. Clogs = Crocs now grown up;-)

  31. Giuliana April 2, 2010 at 08:19 #

    both thumbs down!
it is a hideous trend.. very unflattering, no matter how hard karl or marc try.
but it kind of looks right on alexa.

  32. Tania April 2, 2010 at 13:15 #

I bought a Christian Dior pair in the 90’s that I still have they were so pretty but so uncomfortable to walk in. I will not be buying another pair!

  33. kiwi April 3, 2010 at 16:45 #

    Thumbs down..hideous

  34. Anna April 6, 2010 at 19:09 #

I hate them, they all look awful, no exceptions !
