Dennis Basso Fall 2010

Security was tight at Dennis Basso’s Fall 2010 presentation. People had to be checked in twice and some even had their bags searched.

It was quite clear that the PRs didn’t want a PETA ambush at this presentation.

The reason was because Dennis Basso presented chinchillas coats, fox furs and an alligator military jacket trimmed with fur.

There was just as much fur on the runway as there was in the front row, with Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley both wearing fur, as well as Basso’s clientèle.

It wasn’t all about the furs. We saw luxurious silk gowns, cute plunging LBDs, sheath dresses, sheer blouses and leather trimmed pants.

This is the only presentation I’ve attended in which the designer received a standing ovation.

Ruthie Davis provided the footwear for this presentation. I was in lust with the crystal and silver metal spiked heels that stormed the runway.

I think he got a standing ovation last season too.

I thought you were anti-fur?…..why would you attend a well know furriers fashion show.?….theres nothing glamorous, or fashionable about any of this.
Shame on you for even covering it on your website

    • Fashion Critic February 18, 2010 at 17:54 #

      I’ve never said I was anti-fur.

I really wish people would stop putting words into my mouth and telling me off like a 4 year old, but because I don’t share their beliefs.

If I was anti fur, I wouldn’t have attended this show.

Most of the shows this season have included fur. It’s part of the fashion industry whether we like it or not.

With regards to your shame on you comment…please.

Wow..this is unbelievable. I wonder how many animals this Dennis b-ASS-o had to kill. Shame on him.

Good for you FC!! PETA can shove it!!! I hate people who try to push their beliefs on others!!

Maybe you should keep in mind that you are a guest on this website, we all are, we are here to give our opinions on fashion not FC “There’s nothing glamorous or fashionable about any of this” would’ve sufficed

      • Fashion Critic February 18, 2010 at 22:53 #

        thanks Rosie.

I am in love with those black/black double textured pants, I need them!

I agree with Rosie, and I really do appreciate that F.C. respects our various differences of opinion. That hectoring finger wagging tone of Robert’s comment was very bad form!

As for my own opinion, I don’t like fur so my reaction to this post was mostly negative. However, I do appreciate the reminder that fur, despite all the efforts of the anti fur lobby, is still, as you say F.C., very much a part of the fashion world – it actually stiffens my own resolve to look at the use of fur or leather, or any other type of animal skin with a critical eye when I make my own decisions of what to buy.

“whether we like it or not” is such a typical response….like whaling, or deforestation, or racism, or homophobia….”its going to go on whether we like it or not”
Just because its ‘fashion’ doesnt make it right, and doesnt mean people should just stand by and watch it.

      Thanks for your comment.

We welcome your comment, but do not wish the situation to escalate so we will leave it at that.

I hate going on fashion blogs when there’s fur involved. I just want to enjoy the critics and entries without getting an anit-fur lecture. Most of us have been given the information and seen the heinous pictures. We get it. It’s a turn off, and frankly, I just tune it out. It’s like listening to Charlie Brown’s Teacher.
I love fur, faux or real. Dennis Basso’s clothes are beautiful.
