Diane was the best by far, and the ONLY thing about her gown that resembles that horrid one worn by Michelle Williams is the colour! For heaven’s sake, just because mustard is an unusual colour, that doesn’t mean all mustard dresses are going to look alike…

  2. Ally January 25, 2010 at 12:43 #

Oh man, FC. You have been BUSY this weekend! I have some serious catching up to do :). Perfect for a rainy Monday.

I voted for Diane. She looks amazing. Even if it is kind of reminisent of Michelle Williams from a few years ago. But that color is always a risk and when someone pulls it off, it should be acknowledged. Honestly I think every one of these ladies looks better here than they did at the GG.

  3. b January 25, 2010 at 12:32 #

i also do not really understand what the big deal is about DK, not sure if i’ll ever. However i respect people’s entitlement to their opinions.

Having said that my vote went to Christina.

  4. ImanLover January 25, 2010 at 12:04 #

Honestly…DK NEVER goes wrong…she’s always looks good…many women do too but sometimes they tend to be boring…but Diane is so quirky cool.
    I adore her style.
And honestly why is everyone focusing on the colour of the gown, stunning as it is. I mean look at the cut, the design.
It is ethereal and would have looked just as amazing in another colour.
I don’t think it’s copy of Michelle at all.
Anyway, like so many did before me, I too would like to thank FC. I really enjoy reading your narrative and the pictures are glorious!

    • Fashion Critic January 25, 2010 at 12:06 #

      thanks my dear xxx

  5. mandy January 25, 2010 at 11:41 #

This pole was an easy one! I was, however, torn between Sandra Bullock and Diane. Still, my vote goes to the best and the most consistent one. Diane.

  6. LeeAnn January 25, 2010 at 11:35 #

I thought that Nicole’s dress was Nina Ricci? It does look more like Oscar but I read in the parer it was by Ricci? Help!!!

  7. Flutterbang January 25, 2010 at 10:51 #

Woah, is it that time of the month for some of you girls? Diane Kruger looks amazing, and not due to a supposed obsession by the blog or FC apparently changing people’s opinions – she just DOES. Get over it, jeez.

However, I voted for Nicole and for two reasons. One was because I thought she looked absolutely stunning in a totally different, refreshing look; and two, it’s Australia Day tomorrow and it would be highly unpatriotic of me to not give my countrywoman a vote, haha.

  8. nicky January 25, 2010 at 08:01 #

diane kruger looked fantastic. she always does and will continue to do so hahaa…

lea looked lovely as well as christina, kate and marion. great red carpet overall!

  9. naff January 25, 2010 at 06:49 #

where is drew barrymore? she deserves to be here because her monique lhuillier dress is stunning, romantic and youthful..

  10. nicole January 25, 2010 at 05:32 #

there is something about lea !! she nailed it from head to toe.
    great award season coverage !!

    • Fashion Critic January 25, 2010 at 08:13 #

      thanks Nicole 😀

  11. Martin January 25, 2010 at 05:01 #

Many thanks for posting on a Sunday again Fashion Critic. I’m sure I speak for us all in expressing our sincere appreciation for all the time and effort you dedicate to maintaining this amazing site.

Now, having said that, I voted for Marion as Best Dressed at the SAGs. There was something so fresh and different and game-changing about that dress that appeals greatly to me. Diane looked flawless, as always, but I was a little conventional (apart from the colours) for me. Much preferred her Globes gown over this.

    • Fashion Critic January 25, 2010 at 08:16 #

You are very welcome. It really is my pleasure and your comments just make it all the more worthwhile.

  12. sara January 25, 2010 at 04:12 #

diane kruger gets my vote almost every time… the lady just manages to look so hollywood glam.

marion cotillard a close second. and that colour looks really good on lea michele.

  13. zoe January 25, 2010 at 02:36 #

as we all can see, most of us agree that diane kruger is the winner here. however, sometimes i feel she gets votes just because FC says she loved dk so much. i know what you’re thinking, “no, she looks amazing all the time.”. actually…no she doesn’t, ewspecially when she wears that weird olivia palermo hairstyle. but here she looks really awesome. is she wearing mustard colored eyeshadow though?

    • Fashion Critic January 25, 2010 at 08:36 #

I totally disagree at your comment and to be honest I’m really shocked by it.

You have been coming to this site long enough to know that when it come to Best Dressed the readers and I rarely agree.

If you don’t agree she was best dressed then fine, but to say that others don’t have a mind of their own to form their own opinions is just wrong and deep down you know it.

      • Jasmine January 25, 2010 at 09:34 #

I disagree. I loved Lea Michelle’s dress, and Marion Cotillard’s look, too. But once all the dresses were lined up next to each other for a proper comparison, I had to vote for Diane. There’s just something about it. And, I think the fact that this happens is as a consequence of the fact that Diane, not always, but often, gets her look just right on the the red carpet, which is what FC has noticed.
Those of us who choose to vote for her, too, do so because we see the same thing, not just because FC has expressed her appreciation.
If I don’t like it, I don’t vote for it. If FC’s decision is the same as mine, it’s because she also has good taste. 😉 I think most people think the same way.

    • Hannah January 25, 2010 at 10:07 #

      This is ridiculous.

Diane topped many SAG Best Dressed polls.

To say FC is changing opinions is just childish and stupid.

  14. TMCFS January 25, 2010 at 02:02 #

I think Mariah deserves at least a mention!

    • Fashion Critic January 25, 2010 at 08:41 #

Not since her horrid dress at the Globes.

She has gone way down in my estimation since then. She was beyond tacky a such a prestigious event.

Plus getting drunk at previous event just goes to show she has no class.

Unless she improves she will not feature on here again

      • The One January 25, 2010 at 12:42 #

Hi FC, very understandable, but did you not think her look though not pruce by any means was a huge improvement from the Globbes at this event?

I’m also interested to know what dress she wore and your opinion on the look compared to the Globes!
So please feature her if you find time 🙂

  15. claire January 24, 2010 at 23:45 #

i voted for nicole as she looked fabulous in her gown. it reminds me of indian dresses.

i also loved sandra bullock. her dress is simple but very beautiful.

i feel diane’s dress is too similar in shape to the one she wore at the globes, with one shoulder off. and i’m also not a fan of the colour. but it does fit her like a glove. then again, i think she’s so beautiful she can make even the worst outfits look good. so unfair 😛

  16. stinalotta January 24, 2010 at 20:38 #

Diane Krüger, definitely. She’s stunning in this dress.

I’m so sick of people saying she copied Michele Williams, but that may be just because I actually didn’t really love Michele’s dress that much, the neck line really didn’t do it for me.

  17. WendyB January 24, 2010 at 20:27 #

I think Diane Kruger looks amazing and always does. The only problem is I’m starting to think of her more as a red carpet fixture than an actress :-/

  18. Lilian January 24, 2010 at 20:06 #

Marion Cotillard’s style is getting more and more generic. Very Hollywood. What has happened to her Parisian ‘chic’ style? I really don’t like Elie Saab.

Where are Carey Mulligan and Drew Barrymore? They both looked great.

    I voted for Diane.

  19. Parvati January 24, 2010 at 20:04 #

I meant, Best Dressed at the SAG Awards! 😛

  20. Parvati January 24, 2010 at 20:04 #

Christina Applegate wins for me. She looked absolutely beautiful!

My next choices would be Sandra Bullock (I loved her in this Alexander McQueen gown), Lea Michelle, Marion Cotillard and Nicole Kidman, for wearing a gown that was so different from her usual style and for looking great in it!
Unlike most people, I wasn’t a big fan of Diane Kruger’s look. She looked great, but many of the other BDOTW contenders looked even better, in my opinion.

  21. Maggie January 24, 2010 at 20:03 #

    Diane Kruger is absolutely breathtaking!

  22. Alyazia January 24, 2010 at 18:27 #

I cant believe i found Meryl Streep’s Balenciaga dress today on for 50% discount here in Abu-Dhabi, but the lady still manages to pull it off so well, i looove the color on her!!

  23. Jennifer January 24, 2010 at 18:20 #

I voted for Lea Michelle, because she nailed this look. The green looks phenomenal on her, and she oozes sophistication and the dress doesn’t look like it’s swallowing her. She wore the dress in an absolutely amazing way, and the dress did not wear (also read as ‘eat’ like at the Golden Globes) her.

Second for me was Meryl, because she looks amazing in that dress, and I love her hair up and with those earrings, which in my opinion make the dress look incredibly sophisticated.

Third was Christina, who very rarely steps a wrong foot on the carpet for me, and looks amazing in blue.

Fourth was Sandra, who looks regal and stately in the Alexander McQueen, and because it’s so distinctly different.

For once, Diane shows up fifth for me, because I was too reminded of Michelle Williams, and because it just doesn’t over come the other ladies for me.

6 – Anna P. for doing a great job showing off a difficult dress. Again, she takes risks and it pays off.
7 – Nicole, because it does look great on her and it’s not L’Wren Scott.
8 – Marion, who is not higher on the list due to her make up job for me.
9 – Anna K, who does look a little too cutsey for me.
10 – Kate, who keeps wearing white and for a feeling of, “I’ve seen something like this on her before… very open back, cut to right above the booty” look.
11- Penelope, because it’s black and I don’t like her two tone hair. And because the other ladies just outdid her for me.

  24. Joana Oliveira January 24, 2010 at 18:07 #

Why is everyone so obsessed with Diana Kruger?!!
That dress blended perfectly with the background so Big No No for that!!!

Sandra and Meryl are definitely my favorites!!!

    • sydneycheapchic January 24, 2010 at 23:47 #

I agree that this website is obsessed with Diane Kruger (sometimes a little bias) but in this case I think it is well deserved!! (but i do love Yellow (mustard) gowns when it is pulled off to this perfection)

But would have to say I agree with everyone who has said that it is not even close to the same level as Michelle Williams in Vera Wang.. now that was one of the best all time memorable Oscar gowns for me.

      • Fashion Critic January 25, 2010 at 08:49 #

This website is far from being bias to Diane Kruger.

If anyone I would be bias towards Cate Blanchett, Lucy Liu or Camilla Belle and even then I’m grown up enough to state when they look bad, because it’s about fashion not celebrities.

Diane wouldn’t even be in my top 5.

Yet again shocking comment from someone who is a regular on this site.

        • Clover January 25, 2010 at 11:17 #

You both mean biased, not bias. Not sure if I can use html tags here, if I could I would italicise the ‘ed’ on the end of biased, cos I’m picky like that. If someone shows a bias toward someone they are being biased. /end of English lesson/

I chose Lea Michele, lurrrrrve that colour.

  25. Noora Al-thani January 24, 2010 at 17:50 #

    Diane Kruger looks AMAZING .. <3 <3

i want to have her body :p

  26. robbie January 24, 2010 at 17:47 #

meryl gets my vote, simply because she looked amazing and since she is the kind of women who doesnt make a huge fuss about dressing up for award shows, this is a big deal (at least for me it is)

although diane will win though, i always wonder if people vote diane because they like her outfit or simply because it is diane.

  27. Laura January 24, 2010 at 17:32 #

Lea Michele and Diane Kruger were my faves. I want to vote for Lea, as I thought this was her coming-out party fashion-wise.

But honestly, Diane shut it down. The color, the neckline, the Old Hollywood glamour. She nailed it.

  28. Kimmy January 24, 2010 at 17:31 #

Oh, thank you for this wonderful coverage! I’ve been following your blog for a year now, and I never miss a day. It took me a year to start commenting, but let me just say it again, thank you for this blog!

    • Fashion Critic January 24, 2010 at 17:36 #

      Awww…thanks Kimmy.

I’m always happy to hear that people are enjoying the blog.

  29. Gaber January 24, 2010 at 17:31 #

    So good.

  30. Kimmy January 24, 2010 at 17:22 #

I went for Lea Michele. She’s a new comer in the red carpet yet she looks like she’s been doing this for so long. Her look is so effortlessly beautiful.

Diane Kruger is closed second. But the ruffled style reminds me of the Globes gown. Still, she’s stunning as always.

Third for me is Marion Cotillard, her look is amazing! From head to toe.

  31. mol January 24, 2010 at 17:10 #

Oh well, it looks like Diane’s gonna blow it outta the water this time, good for her; but I went with Lea Michelle this time – it’s so young fresh and easy, yet still with a sexy wow factor that the red carpet calls for, plus she’s a new fav of mine!

  32. Elly January 24, 2010 at 16:59 #

    The Glee girl looked stunning,
I can’t vote for Anna Paquin because her dress isn’t full length at an evening wear event. And as other’s have said, whilst DK looks stunning – a rare thing in mustard, she does look like a copy of Michelle Williams.
A lovely change of direction for Nicole Kidman, sooo much better than the L’Wren Scott look …

  33. justme January 24, 2010 at 16:54 #

I went with Marion. She dared to be different by wearing a short dress and it paid. She looks beautiful. Also I want that ring lol.

I want to jump on the Diane Kruger bandwagon but I can’t, she didn’t wow me :/

  34. me January 24, 2010 at 16:33 #

Why didnt you put eide falco in here? She looked AMAZING. So what if someone wore the dress before? You always always go with the same women.. Its diane kruger this, and diane kruger that.

    • Fashion Critic January 24, 2010 at 16:38 #

Why question why someone isn’t on the poll?

It’s clear she’s not on the poll because these women looked far better than her.

      • Chiara January 24, 2010 at 17:56 #

shouldn’t we say that diane kruger is always perfect??

        • Lou January 24, 2010 at 18:42 #

Diane Kruger features quite a bit because she makes good style choices – I’m not crazy about her but am always interested to see what she is wearing. On this occaison though she is the clear winner for me. Do love Anna’s decision, but agree that a floor length gown would have been more appropriate for this event.

  35. JoltOfDavid January 24, 2010 at 16:24 #

Diane Kruger’s look is a pretty blatant copy of Michelle Williams’ now almost legendary Oscar look.
The ladies who wore McQueen are the clear winners. IMO, it was Sandra’s night.

    • Linda January 25, 2010 at 02:20 #

I feel the same way about Diane. It doesn’t quite do it for me. Michelle’s look was legendary.
Sandra was my choice for this event too. The photos don’t do her justice. When I saw her on TV she was just so elegant and sexy and stylish. Best she’s ever looked, imo.

  36. Shoshanna January 24, 2010 at 16:21 #

    Diane followed by Anna Paquin.

  37. Leo January 24, 2010 at 16:20 #

I have to go with Lea Michelle, that dress looks like it was made for her. But it’s not an easy choice, I’m in love with Nicole Kidman here also, and Meryl Streep and Marion Cotillard.

  38. chrystelle January 24, 2010 at 16:20 #

diane kruger looked gasptatic yesterday on the red carpet. marion was a close second.the rest was been there done that.

    • Fashion Critic January 24, 2010 at 16:21 #

      gasptatic…love it LOL

  39. Vi January 24, 2010 at 16:20 #

I would have put Michelle Monaghan instead of Penelope, but I love the rest of your choices!
Thank you very much for the fantastic coverage, as usual.

  40. la poubelle January 24, 2010 at 16:19 #

why did nicole kidman make the list?

    • Mina January 24, 2010 at 17:57 #

Because she looked absolutely magnificent. I LOVED the look, head to toe. I’m grateful that FC put her on here, despite the fact that she didn’t walk the red carpet

      • Lou January 24, 2010 at 18:37 #

I like her look too – always refreshing to see her wear more colour and this patterned dress is a real style departure for her. I agree with FC that it didn’t look right next to the outfits of her Nine co-stars, but on its own, is a great dress.

        • gg January 24, 2010 at 19:17 #

          agree with mina and lou.
nicole’s dress is so different from all the others. it just stands out.
would love to see it up close. i’m sure the workmanship is stunning.
although i voted diane. she looks regal. <3
