2010 Critic’s Choice Awards

Best Dressed Award
Diane Kruger has been experimenting with shorter hemlines and edgier pieces, but last night she opted for ethereal elegance as she glided down the red carpet wearing an asymmetrical Donna Karan Spring 2010 gown.

Look as the way she’s working the hell out of this gown.

That backward S shape she’s making with her body is fully showing off the magnificent of this gown.

I knew she was only warming up at previous events.

Best Mini Award
Zoe Saldana has been on fire since the start of her “Star Trek” promo tour back in April last year, and that flame is still burning ever so brightly.

I was in a three-way split as to who to give the Best Dressed to – Diane, Zoe or Marion.

Diane got the vote, but Zoe was a very close second.

The “Avatar” actress wore a delightful Jason Wu Spring 2010 ivory mini draped foil dress with puffy sleeves, a bubble hem skirt and a black sash tied to the waist.

Her look was paired with Christian Louboutin white peep-toes with a black and yellow trim and animal print velvet bow which are oh so very cute.

Ding Ding Ding Jackpot Award
Dior + Marion Cotillard = Red Carpet Perfection.

This is the moment I have been waiting for since it was the ladies of the movie “Nine” started their promotional tour.

The stunning French actress wowed in a Christian Dior Spring 2010 two tone bustier gown, with gold embellishments fanning out over the skirt.

I love the pink clutch, but not so crazy about those necklaces.

Keeping It Simple Award
Abbie Cornish wore an Elie Saab Spring 2010 black sheath dress with structured shoulders paired with Bally criss cross heels.

I would’ve loved to have seen Abbie inject a bit of colour into this look via the clutch or shoes, but all in all I don’t hate this look

I’m however slightly disappointed that the subtle details of the dress are totally lost on the red carpet.

Bling Award
Emily Blunt loves to shine on the red carpet.  We often we see her in heavily embellished looks.

On this occasion she wore a Georges Chakra Fall 2009 Couture sequined dress, with fish-scale embroidery detail around the hem of the skirt.

I think this dress would’ve worked better for Emily had it been strapless, as I’m not so crazy about sheer yokes.

I’m crazy about her Diego Dolcini strappy heels though.

Most Disappointing Award
As much as we love Julianne Moore,  I just couldn’t fall in love with this red Lanvin Spring 2010 dress on her.

On the runway the dress is très magnifique, but the details fall flat off the runway therefore making lose interest in the dress.

Slowing Becoming A Red Carpet Favourite Award
Anna Kendrick walked the red carpet wearing an Elie Saab black knit gown.

Again you can barely make out the lace details on the skirt of the gown.

My only problem with this gown is the double straps, because it looks like she’s wearing a strappy vest top under her gown.

On The Fence Award
Carey Mulligan’s certainly makes this Marni black taffeta waterfall draped black gown work for her and her unique style.

The Marni accessories are the only thing stopping me from disliking this look.

It appears she loves the same designers as Anna Wintour  – Prada, Thakoon and Marni.

Ravishing In Red Award
No matter what Heather Graham wears always she injects a LOT of sexy appeal into her look.

Her asymmetrical red dress may look a lot plain, but the gold clutch and sultry pose make the overall look more appealing.

Best Shoes Award
I love the black fringe corseted Alberta Ferretti dress Sandra Bullock wore this event, but I think it fails to flatter her.

Her black satin Casadei platform heels are to-die-for.

Precious Award
Gabourey Sidibe walked the red carpet wearing a black satin cocktail Tadashi Shoji dress with a nude and black embroidered cap-sleeve bodice.

She completed the look with black sandals and a black satin shawl.

Still Got IT Award
I have goosebumps on my goosebumps marveling at how A-Friggin-Mazing Susan Sarandon looked wearing a sexy Dolce & Gabbana LBD.

It’s a style we’ve seen numerous of times on the red carpet, but that takes nothing away from how stunning Susan looks.

After her break up with Tim Robbins something tells me this was a statement making dress.

Yet Another LBD Award
After Ashley Greene gave us our first red carpet look at the J.Mendel Pre-Fall 2010 collection this week, Claire Danes gave us a second look.

She presented alongside Zachary Quinto wearing a J.Mendel Pre-Fall 2010 black dress with a draped shoulder detail.

I like that she broke up the black by adding a bronze pair of peep-toe heels.

I’m quite disappointed by this red carpet. The majority of the dresses were black or white which made it oh so boring. Therefore, my favorites are red-hot Julianne and Heather. I’m blown away by Susan in her Dolce dress, she’s simply ravishing!

  2. sydneycheapchic January 16, 2010 at 13:51 #

I haven’t even voted for this weeks best dressed and I’m already spoilt for choice on nexts week. Gorgeous! Diane Kruger would be my winner too!

  3. Elise January 16, 2010 at 13:54 #

Marion, Sandra and Zoe are my favorites.
I hate the Lanvin dress on Julianne, it is a big disappointment for me.

cannot wait for what stars will wear on sunday! diane looks absolutely stunning and effortless. i loved zoe and marion’s looks too!

  5. wilwarin January 16, 2010 at 14:06 #

all first 3 ladies look stunning, but marion just took my breath away… she’s absolutely divine… i also love Anna Kendrick, although that dress may look little boring at first, but i think it looks great on her, and her hair and make up look great too.

  6. The One January 16, 2010 at 14:27 #

oh wow, wow, may please Susan Sarandon make it on the best dressed poll, she looks effortlessly breath taking in that Dolce dress

  7. Alyazia January 16, 2010 at 14:40 #

Good to see you on a Saturday FC!

Well i’m impressed with this event, i thought it was a good warm-up for the golden globes on sunday..
I have to say that Marion blew me away, i love this look head to toe, absolutely stunning! this bustier gown is so refreshing from all the boring D&G bustiers we see in almost every event ..

For Carey, i think she over accessorized her look with that necklace as the gown already has a belt, though im sure the necklace it would look lovely on something else probably a simple LBD ..

I have no words to describe Emily’s shoes, those shoes will surely go to the top of my wishlist for this year ..

Only during awards season…don’t expect it to be a regular thing ;)

  8. Bego January 16, 2010 at 14:59 #

I also wasn’t expecting this post, but thank you FC!
I love Diane, the dress is wonderful and I think her hair and make-up were flawless. And Susan Sarandon is absolutely gorgeous in that dress I’m adoring her look! Zoe looks very cute as well, but to me Diane was the winner.

I was expecting more from this red carpet, I think last year’s was considerably better; somehow I think I’ve seen this sort of look on Diane a hundred times before, besides there’s so much black! Julianne would’ve been my favourite it it wasn’t for the squashed detail on the shoulder, I’m pleasantly surprised to see how great she looks in orange

    • Fashion Critic January 16, 2010 at 15:38 #

I agree last year was better in terms of star power.

  10. mm January 16, 2010 at 15:30 #

Diane, then Marion then Zoe’s shoes. I always love her shoe choices. I love the Precious award. Already she knows how to work the red carpet.

  11. Laura January 16, 2010 at 15:35 #

Diane, Zoe, and Marion are the only ones I really loved. Dianes has a very floaty feel to it, and it’s nice she can work an edgy Karl Lagerfield and a floaty. Donna Karan in the same breath.

Zoe’s dress is so perfect for her figure, and I love what the sleeves are doing. I also like how thoughtful the shine is. Too shiny and that dress would’ve been tacky, but as it is, it’s tres magnifique.

I love love love the Dior Mairon has on. It’s so edgy but doesn’t scream “EDGY” in your face. I agree with you about the necklaces. Having an open neck would’ve helped her show off the contrast between the top and bottom of the dress.

FC Does this mean you’re going to start blogging on weekends too?? (Please please say yes!)

    • Fashion Critic January 16, 2010 at 16:20 #

      Sorry no :(

I only blog on weekends during Awards season and Cannes because so much is going on.

  13. Willa January 16, 2010 at 17:36 #

Carey always seems to wear clothes that age her considerably. Kirsten Dunst does the “granny look” ok, but on Carey, it just looks blah.

    • Leti January 16, 2010 at 21:57 #

      Agreed!

  14. keira January 16, 2010 at 18:05 #

i don’t know if i shall like marion and diane…i don’t like the top of diane’s dress…and if is kina glittery-which idon’t like..marion always wears bustier dresses with a long necklace which i don’t like either^^….donno if i shall like the looks or not^^

  15. Rosie January 16, 2010 at 18:16 #

I do love Marion but I wish she had worn the dress without the necklaces, so Diane is my favourite.

I also loved Sairose Ronan who looked great for a 15 year old

  16. mol January 16, 2010 at 18:34 #

Love the top three – Diane, Zoe and Marion (although I’m not sure I love her hairstyle). I also love Anna Kendrick. I know her dress didn’t show well in the photographs, but she herself always seems to shine, always looking relaxed with a kinda clever and teasing look, greak smile and great makeup and hair. I’m looking forward to seeing more of her, both on film and on the Red Carpet. I’m also enjoying Gabourey Sidibe. I’ve seen her in a few interviews and her personality is so bubbly and animated that you can’t help but love her. She has a beautiful face, I’m just not loving the longer hair she seem to be sporting here, shorter is a better frame for her face…….and I have to say here that you are so right, Susan Sarandon is a-friggin amazing!

Thanks for your coverage – I love how you step up to the plate during awards season, it really adds to my overall enjoyment of this period (and tee hee on the immediate queries if you are going to start working every weekend – you know how it goes: the more you give, the more people want!!!)

    • Fashion Critic January 16, 2010 at 18:46 #

LOL. It’s totally understandable why people want me to blog on Sat

But a girl has to sleep sometime ;)

      Thanks for appreciating xxx

  17. lee January 16, 2010 at 18:54 #

FC, did you see Kyra Sedgwick at this event? her lbd was so beautiful!

    • Fashion Critic January 16, 2010 at 19:15 #

I did see her but only wasn;t crazy about her

  18. juliana January 16, 2010 at 19:09 #

I liked Carey dress but wasnt crazy for her necklace. I still prefer her with longer hair, I hope she let the hair grow now.

  19. whitestroke January 17, 2010 at 23:46 #

I absolutely love Diane, Zoe and Carey here. <3

Abbie – Could you get more boring?
Marion- Doesn’t excite me in the slightest. She lost that ‘something’ she had 2 years ago.
Julianne – I adore her. I want to look like her when I’m her age. That dress looks unfortunate off the runway, though. Not her fault.
Anna – Point yourself in the Abbie direction.

  20. ahot January 18, 2010 at 11:44 #

I just wanted to express my admiration for Gabriele Sidibe. She looks very confident and gives the others a run for their money! she is glowing and i love her look. I miss her at the Golden Globes though :(
