Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: December 2009

Despite the fact that I’ve spent most of the year complaining about Rihanna OTT style, lets face it she did make the sidewalk more interesting.

Victoria Beckham has held this title for 2 years, but a few flashes of brilliance earlier this month is not enough to reclaim her title.

Whilst most stars are wearing check shirts, flip flops and DIY cut-off denim shorts on the streets of LA, New York and London, Rihanna was wearing high-end fashion from Paris, Milan, New York and London.

My favourite street look from her is still the Gareth Pugh ensemble. It’s so OTT and the sunglasses at night are unnecessary but I love it anyway.

If you had said to me at the start of the year that pant suits would be one of the hottest trends on the red carpet I would have said you were crazy.

Surprisingly this trend worked, and on the most unexpected people.

A pant suit on Tilda Swinton always works well because of her androgynous look, but on boho queen Sienna Miller it was totally unexpected.

Her Gucci pant suit was a million miles away from the boho look we’d long tired of, but this look became the kick-start for a great red carpet promotional tour for the British actresses.

Evan also looked very comfortable in a Gucci pant suit, but the other big surprises were Penelope Cruz and Ashley Greene who both wore red Bottega Veneta pant suits.

Pen’s was a winner, the jury is still out on Ashley’s.

Others who have dabbled with pant suits this year are Amy Adams at the “Sunshine Cleaning” LA premiere and Jennifer Aniston at the “He’s Just Not That Into You” LA premire.

Both wore Burberry suits. Amy’s was white whilst Jennifer’s was of course black.

Did you like this trend?

You may be wondering why, but this Kimberly Ovitz Jacob long sleeve dress was one of the most worn dresses on the red carpet in 2009.

This crew-neck dress features pintucks throughout and an exposed back zip, but on the red carpet it seems quite plain and simple.

Judging from these ladies simplicity is what they were going for, as many didn’t over accessorize the look.

Usual candidates for this award go to Black Halo or Alice + Olivia, but celebs seemed to want to seek out newer designers this year.

Kimberly Ovitz was one of the many new designers we discovered this year, but the Martin jersey dress as worn by Anna Lynne McCord and Olivia Wilde was my favourite from the Fall 2009 collection.

This dress is still available to purchase from Net-A-Porter.com.

There’s no denying it Sienna Miller LOVES her Prada tote.

Whether she’s walking her dog or off to rehearsals she can’t bare to be parted from her bag.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the bag and her style but come on Sienna let’s mix things up a bit.

I wonder what obsession she’ll kick 2010 off with?

Perhaps a certain ex-boyfriend, if the rumours are to be believed…

We’ve been keeping an eye on Sienna’s obsession.

We first picked up on it back in August, and now we’re calling for an intervention!

The deep burgundy saffiano leather tote is still available to purchase from Saks.com and Prada boutiques worldwide.

Runners up:
1. Kristin Cavallari and her Alexander Wang Coco Duffel bag
2. Leona Lewis and her Vivienne Westwood dresses plus her corset belts
3. Vicoria Beckham and her YSL Trib Two’s

I feel some serious shoe DeJa Vu coming on…. here we are again with the YSL Trib Two’s taking the ‘Shoe Of The Year Award’ in 2009.

YSL Trib Two Platforms were also Shoe Of The Year in 2008.

Celebs showed no sign of stepping away from these shoes as they continued to be the red carpet choice this year.

Everyone from WAGS to A-Listers seems to own a pair.

Victoria Beckham is worth a special mention in this award as we suspect she may sleep with them on.

She loves these shoes, and has been spotted wearing around 5 different colours.

She claims to love them so much because of their comfort, which I will second having tried a pair on.

It looks like we’ll continue to see this shoe on the red carpet in 2010 as just last week Net-A-Porter US and Net-A-Porter International instantly sold-out their Pre-Spring grey patent Trib Two.

Saks.com have a dark grey version, whilst farfetch.com have blue suede pumps.

Runners up:
1. Christian Louboutin Differa sandals
2. Louis Vuitton Spicy heels
