Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: December 2009

This time last year not many knew of Prabal Gurung.

The designer must have known he made it when he appeared on the front cover of WWD during fashion week back in February, but the rest of us were yet to catch up.

In April Zoe Saldana should be credited for being the first to bring Prabal Gurung to the red carpet.

It her defining moment of the year, and no doubt it was Prabal’s too.

The celebrity love didn’t stop there.

Demi Moore and Rachel Weisz gave their seal of approval at the same Cartier 100th Anniversary event, whilst Becki Newton gave us a twirl in a stunning ruffled bib confection.

After being invited to the designers Spring 2010 presentation during New York Fashion Week, I knew this collection would be just as popular on the red carpet, and I was right.

New girl on the block Carey Mulligan was the first to wear the Spring 2010 collection, followed by Demi Moore, Leighton Meester and Thandie Newton.

Stylish CNN reporter Alina Cho opted for the same feathered Fall 2009 dress as Demi Moore, whilst Ashley Greene ended Prabal’s year as Zoe had started it – wearing a stunning red dress.

All this love in only his second season proves what a talented designer Prabal Gurung is.

In 2007 before I’d even seen Gossip Girl (we’re behind in the UK) I had already labeled Blake Lively as One to Watch in 2008.

Unfortunately things didn’t go to plan and 2008 ended with her receiving the Most Disappointing Award.

Our fingers and toes were crossed for 2009.

Before we knew it “She Was Back”.

Gone were those Vena Cava ankle length skirts, and in came Versace gowns with plunging necklines and thigh high splits plus Adam and Topshop playsuits.

Stella…I mean Blake’s got her groove back, and I for one couldn’t be happier.

As my mother always said “if you’ve got it flaunt it”, and boy has she been flaunting it this year.

Welcome back Blake, we missed you.

Stella McCartney’s Resort 2010 collection has seen more red carpet than some designers Pre-Fall, Fall, Resort and Spring collections put together.

At the time of the Costume Institute Gala back in May, we were not aware that Stella and her Met Angels – Liv Tyler, Kate Hudson and Kate Bosworth – were all giving us a preview of the Resort 2010 collection.

Style.com uploaded the collection on June 8th and since then nearly everyone of our favourite celebrities have fallen in love with this collection.

Online stores such as Net-A-Porter US, Net-A-Porter International, Matches Fashion and Browns Fashion have this collection available to purchase from their virtual shelves.

Zoe Saldana received 33% of your votes as the Promotional Tour Star of 2009 beating Diane Kruger (29%), Sienna Miller (12%), Drew Barrymore (10%), Audrey Tatou (10%), Penelope Cruz (4%), Emma Watson (1.2%) and Marion Cotillard (0.8%).

For me Zoe’s best looks were when she wore the red Prabal Gurung dress and the Emilio Pucci sequin mini dress.

Off Zoe’s promotional tour schedule she still wowed us with great looks by Chloe, Calvin Klein, Narciso Rodriguez and her stunning RM by Roland Mouret gown which blew us all away.

Zoe has become a permanent fixture on best dressed lists thanks to her sophisticated style.

The New York actress has an effortless approach to the red carpet.

Nothing feel forces, she doesn’t appear to be trying to hard, and she dresses for her self without following trends.

Picking 19 year old Emma Watson as ‘Best Dressed Teen’ feels strange because when I think of teens on the red carpet, I think of Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, and Emma is clearly in a different league.

Emma is more sophisticated and much better dressed than those Disney stars put together.

The star who grew up wearing Chanel at Harry Potter premiere’s, chanelled a more personal style this year wearing Temperley London, Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, vintage Ossie Clark and Burberry Prorsum.

Her looks told her she had a much great input into what she wore on the red carpet this time around, which proves sitting front row at major fashion shows was time well spent.
