Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: November 2009

There were no cardigans in sight when the First Lady Michelle Obama attended the first State Dinner at the White House last night held in honour of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur.

Many of the guest wore traditional evening gowns and saris of vibrant colours.

Michelle Obama wore a a one-of-a-kind sterling silver sequin abstract floral nude strapless custom made gown by Indian designer for the India-themed event.

She paired her dress with a matching shawl, large drop earrings and a collection of gold bracelets.

I think she looks absolutely breath-taking. I loved that she wore an Indian designer.

Whilst some may frown that she didn’t wear a traditional sari, I would imagine she would have been heavily criticized if she had.

Leona Lewis’ obsession is two fold.

Firstly she can’t hit the red carpet or perform without being dressed by Vivienne Westwood, secondly she always wears a corset belt.

No matter how much they ruin her look.

To make matters worst there are two corset belts. One in black, the other purple.

Since September Leona has only steered away from wearing Vivienne Westwood and her corset belts once, when she wore Malandrino to the US Weekly party but even then she wore Westwood heels.

Until I put this post together, I wasn’t fully aware of the obsession which doesn’t stop at Westwood and belts. It appears the colour black and purple are key to this look.

We know Renee Zellweger and Charlize Theron religiously wear Carolina Herrera and Dior respectively, but at least they don’t appear to be wearing the SAME thing over and over.

Leona, we beg you mix it up a little, find yourself a new stylist because he/she isn’t doing you any favours.

I love you, but people say you’re boring and this just add fuel to that fire.

This week I went to the Net-A-Porter’s Cruise 2010 press day were I got to see up close those stunning pieces celebrities have already been wearing on the red carpet.

Robbie aka Jimmy Choo freak will not doubt love those feathered Jimmy Choo’s that will be available soon.

I will be going after those grommet Brian Atwood heels which I fell in love with when they were paired with looks in Graeme Black’s Spring 2010 presentation.

I also loved that blue Alexander McQueen plunge-front dress which is already on their virtual shelves.

Net-A-Porter will be adding a few more designer to their already impressive list.

For Cruise 2010 they will add 3.1 Phillip Lim initials lingerie, Giambattista Valli, Rosa Cha, Max Azria and Valentino.

Here is a look at all the delightful pieces which are going to be available to purchase on Net-A-Porter.com over the coming weeks.

As Jennifer Lopez was your Best Dressed at the AMAs, I will predict that her feathered dress will sell out instantly.

Out of this lot, I have my eye on Diane Kruger’s red Marchesa dress, and Lesile Mann’s yellow Jason Wu dress.

Isabel Lucas chose this Marchesa Fall 2009 lace-frill dress for the “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” Australian premiere.

The stunning actress chose her favourite accessory – a headband – plus tights to complete a Gothic look.

Marchesa designer Georgina followed by wearing the same dress to “The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards” event with the same lace Louboutin’s which were worn on the runway.

With a fresh face and non-fuss hair Georgina’s look is the better of the two here I feel.

The dress speaks for itself without any additions like Isobel’s.

Who would have thought little Cheryl Cole from Newcastle would be the one start a buzz about an up and coming designer.

We saw Cheryl wearing a David Koma Fall 2009 dress on the X Factor a few weeks ago. Then Beyonce Knowles wore a dress from the same collection to the recent MTV EMAs.

Last week Rihanna wore this David Koma Spring 2010 orange and black dress when she performed the first ever concert on the Royal Caribbean’s ‘Oasis of the Seas’ cruise ship in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

These 3 ladies have taken David Koma, from David Who? to one of the most talked about designers in the UK in the space of 3 weeks.

Rihanna paired her dress with Alexander McQueen Fall 2009 thigh-high boots.
