Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Natalie Portman arrived at the New York City Ballet opening night gala this week wearing a Vena Cava Spring 2010 navy and white printed dress.

I would’ve thought going to a ballet required a look more regal and elegant.

This look could just as easily have been worn to run errands in.

I love the dress, but not for this occasion.

Of course Catherine Malandrino gave me the glamour I was desperately missing from Natalie.

The designer wore a silver metallic gown with a deep plunge and draped hips of her own design from her Resort 2010 collection.

The gown was worn with a large statement necklace which complemented her gown perfectly.

As much as I miss her raven locks, this warmer auburn colour is just divine on her.

Dita von Teese wore this same dress in black recently.

Erin Fetherston’s pieces are always have a fantasy princess element to them, and this cute dress is no different.

What makes this particular piece interesting is the floral print and the sharp asymmetrical hem.

Mila Kunis gives us a rare smile wearing a Dolce & Gabbana grey ruched strapless cocktail dress, with a contrasting black waistband.

Her popular dress was worn with a black blazer and satin black pumps.

Whenever there’s a new ‘It’ bag, Jessica Simpson seems to be all over it.

She’s recently been seen carrying the lust worthy Valentino 360 hobo.

The silver sequined bag maybe a bit OTT for a daytime bag, especially when she paired it on one occasion with a plaid shirt, but the bag is stunning.

The craftsmanship is amazing and I love the sequins throughout.

The bag is accented with Valentino’s signature bow, which seems to act as the bag’s closure.

Valentino bags are often seen on the set of Gossip Girl.

We’ve seen Blake Lively and Hilary Duff carrying the Valentino ‘Spotlight’ tote and the Valentino Petale hobo respectively, now Leighton Meester and Taylor Momsen have both been spotted carrying the 360.

Leighton was spotted carrying a cream floral embroidered Valentino 360, with a bow tie and black leather handles.

Taylor Momsen carried the silver beaded version of the ultra luxe Valentino 360 hobo.

The bag is currently available to purchase in various colours, materials and textures from Valentino.com, Neiman Marcus and Saks.com.

I don’t about you but I’d love the black sequin version.

Many months ago, Marvel told me to keep an eye on Ashley Greene and I’ve been an admirer ever since.

Ashley reminds me at lot of Sophia Bush, who always makes a positive impact on the red carpet.

Her red carpet looks for her new movie “Twilight Saga: New Moon” have been amazing, but her looks for smaller events and TV shows have been just as impressive.

She is making all the right style choices.  Nothing is predictable, too safe, nor boring, nor attention grabbing tacky.

I absolutely adore her teal and black Yigal Azrouël Fall 2009 sleeveless dress, which she wore on Fox’s “Good Day New York” this week.

The pointy sleeves are interesting, the colour is intriguing and the length is perfect. There is nothing I don’t love about this look.

Ashley Greene is the December 2009 cover girl for lads mag Maxim.

She could have done what most Maxim cover girls do and wear a bandage dress, but the stylish actress selected a black ruched Nicole Miller Spring 2010 dress accented with bold print shoulders.

The runway heels and bare legs would have perfected this look for me, but instead Ashley wore tights and carried a lime green satin geometric Bally clutch.

She’s definitely one to continue to watch.

Attending press days has opened my eyes to that fact that there is more than one fashion retailer on the high-street producing great affordable pieces.

Yesterday I went to the River Island Spring 2010 press day, were I got a peek at what we can look forward to seeing in store next March.

The Spring 2010 collection is split into 6 themes: Quirky, Tribal, Nautical, Swap Shop, Pretty Pastels and Ibizia.

The quirky section included studded denim shorts, spiked gladiators, sequin jersey tops, a denim biker vest and zebra print combat pants. This section was for those tomboys who want to stand-out.

The tribal section included a one-shoulder African print dress named the Jamil dress – which is on my wish list – plus tribal print shorts, cropped mesh tees and a cobweb vest which was paired on a mannequin with cute khaki shorts which looked like a skirt.

The nautical section was full of blue, red and white tees, shorts, skirts and dresses.

Swap shop was an interesting mix of pieces that shouldn’t work together, but some how do. A stunning purple dress, was alongside 80s denim cropped jeans, a sequined multi-coloured cardigan, pink cotton shorts, patchwork denim, polka dot shorts and floral dresses.

Pretty pastels were just that. Nude, yellow, peach, cream and beige was the main colour palette, with ditsy print dresses, smock cardigans, chiffon dresses and maxi dresses. These pieces were a very modern take on boho chic, which would be perfect for next summers festivals.

The Ibizia pieces were colourful and bright as you would expect. Sarongs, swimsuits and sexy kaftans stood out with some embellished to make the already sexy pieces even sexier.

Each theme also has matching accessories including bags, jewelry, shoes, boots and a variety of trilby, panama and sailor hats.

One of my favourite pieces was the pink skirt above with a twisted detail through-out. It reminded me of the pieces we saw presented by Burberry Prorsum recently, and it will definitely be on my wish list.
