Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: November 2009

This event has got to be one of the Best Dressed events I’ve ever seen, as everyone made a magnificent effort.

I’ve never been one to go gaga over Chloe Sevigny, but I absolutely LOVE her in this Miu Miu Spring 2010 dress.

It’s something only the likes of Chloe and Zooey Deschanel could pull off without looking like a grown woman dressing childishly.

Her bejewelled turtle neck dress is so playful and dainty, plus I love her neutral accessories which complement her dress well.

*Sighs*

Kate Beckinsale blew me away at this event.

I love the way her midnight green asymmetrical Andrew GN Spring 2010 gown appears to snake around her toned body.

The draping is magnificent, the embellished belt and shoulder detail adds texture and the look is pulled together with an elegant updo.

This is one of my favourite looks from Kate, who completed the look with a black Jenny Packham Baguette clutch.

Christina Ricci wasn’t brave enough to wear the runway version of this Prada Spring 2010 cloque baby doll dress, but she settled on a forest green modified version which she accented with a silver waist band.

Christina isn’t shy at taking risks, but baring her panties at this event wouldn’t have been quite appropriate.

Is it me or does Christina change her hair colour every time she hits the red carpet?

Jessica Alba’s also opted for a Prada Spring 2010 cloque halter dress.

Looking at the closet match to the runway, I would have preferred her to have worn the runway look as it’s far more interesting.

Red satin Prada heels and a red velvet Prada Velluto Sere clutch from the Fall 2009 collection complete this rather tame look.

It looks like what we saw on the Prada and Miu Miu Spring 2010 runway’s may not be exactly what we will see in the boutique’s.

Eva Mendes’ Miu Miu Spring 2010 black and beige dress, takes the jewel embroidered detail from the runway look to perfect her sexy sheath dress.

I adore her look, especially the hair accessory which adds a bit of pizazz to her classy updo.

The edgier runway version wouldn’t have quite worked for her.

Normally I can match a dress to a celebrity the moment I see it on the runway, which also helps me memorize runway looks.

This Marchesa Spring 2010 embroidered black tulle gown with draped sleeves looks like it was made for Shirley Manson, despite that fact that I would never have consider her for this stunning gown.

The singer gives the gown a romantic Gothic vibe I don’t believe Georgina Chapman was going for, but Shirley really works this look.

Daisy Fuentes saw the magic which Gustavo Cadile created for Catherine Zeta-Jones last week, and created it for herself wearing one of his luscious gowns.

I love the amethyst colour of her Spring 2009 halter chiffon gown, which is slightly modified from the runway as hers has jeweled straps.

This would’ve been the reason she pulled back her hair, so we could see that stunning detail.

Last week Lady GaGa and Carine Roitfeld opted for risque looks from Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2010 collection, but Gwen Stefani opted for something less revealing.

The singer walked the red carpet with her husband wearing a white bustier with a black lace trim, paired with tapered pants from the same collection.

Sexy strappy sandals completed her look.

I keep looking at Zoe Saldana’s strapless Marchesa Spring 2010 tulle column gown with sequin detail and keep thinking that something is missing.

I think a waist band, either contrasting or the same colour of the gown would have given her more of a defined waist.

The actress carried a black Jenny Packham Lipstick clutch to complete her look.

I’m so thankful Carine Roitfeld removed all those OTT silver embellishments from her Balmain Spring 2009 as they were overkill.

The dress is much more appealing without all that bling, and I’m a girl who love a bit of bling.

Christian Louboutin Supra Fifre 120 thigh-high boots complete this effortless look.

Unlike most of the others on this red carpet, Kate Bosworth doesn’t really rock my world.

Her animal print Proenza Schouler Spring 2010 dress is nice enough, but she could’ve blown us away with much more interesting pieces from this collection.

I will always love how Rose McGowan always gives us va-va-voom.

Jessica Rabbit eat your heart own.

Rose’s red Donna Karan Pre-Fall 2009 gown is so sensual and divine.

Of course she adds a red lip to her look.

My only criticism is that she would have looked a hell of a lot better with her hair pulled back.

Fashionista Liz Goldwyn always likes to wear the unexpected.

Her fruity watermelon Sonia Rykiel Spring 2010 jumpsuit was paired with a dazzling pair of heels from the same collection.

Miuccia Prada makes her self designed Prada Spring 2010 dress more wearable, by adding a shirt dress under her chandelier-styled crystal embroidered dress.

Carey Mulligan was also wearing Prada, like so many others.

The Oscar hopeful donned a heavily embroidered Prada Spring 2010 dress paired with shoes with a clear heel from the same collection.

She just keeps getting it right. I predict hope she blows us away this coming Awards season.

One person who never lets me down on the red carpet is Marisa Tomei.

I’m just loving this burst of colour.

The actress wore a 1950s Jean Desses Haute Couture bubble-gum pink cocktail dress from Decades Inc.

Boucheron jewels and a Leiber purse complete this outstanding look.

This is one I will come back to drool over again and again.

Rachel Zoe opted for a one-shouldered Pucci gown

Ciara might have been wearing those fierce Christian Louboutin studded pigalle’s but the rest of her look is really disappointing.

When so many stepped outside the box, or wowed us with drama and colour Ciara’s look is very blah and uninspired.

Mr & Mrs Snoozeville were there also.

She was wearing Armani Prive.

On Saturday nights X Factor, Dannii Minogue surprised us all by not wearing J’Aton Couture.

Instead she wore a strapless gown slashed to her thighs by Australian designer Lisa Ho.

It’s a beautiful look, but Dannii has spoilt us with so much couture this series that this look didn’t have same wow factor as previous week.

I loved Danni’s hair, and the stunning silver statement necklace she paired with her sandy gown.

I loved Dannii’s Lisa Ho Spring 2009 printed kaftan, but it didn’t feel quite right for a Sunday night TV show.

It was perfect for St.Tropez or some other luxury holiday, but alongside Cheryl’s futuristic look Danni looked really out of place.

I also didn’t like her ponytail.

Firstly because it was crimped and secondly because I’ve grown so fond of her with shorter hair.

Burgundy YSL heels completed the look.

For once I loved both of Cheryl Cole’s looks on the X Factor this weekend.

On Saturday night I instantly recognised Cheryl’s plunging Alexander Wang draped sequin mini dress, as I was cruising this same dress on Friday in Selfridges.

This dress much preferred to her Jean Paul Gaultier look of last week, which felt too old for her.

She looked stunning, happy – despite her reported marriage troubles – sexy, confident and I loved how her hair was pulled back to complete this sleek look.

Silver peep-toes complemented that massive rock on her finger.

This was my favourite look so far.

Although the big hair was back on Sunday with this look, I didn’t mind it so much as I wasn’t as over the top as we know Cheryl’s hair can get.

Her Richard Nicoll corset dress with gold panels had a futuristic feel to it. If Star Wars was made today I feel Princess Leia would love this dress.

After a few weeks of Danni being on top, this was very much Cheryl’s week.

Eva Mendes looked radiant when she stepped out for the closing night of the “Middle East International Film”  in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates wearing a white asymmetrical J.Mendel Pre-Fall 2009 gown.

She teamed her dress with diamond hot pink jewellery from Cartier.

Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks wore the same gown to “A Magical Evening” Gala in New York earlier on this month.

This column dress complements both women’s dark features and skin and I always adore white on the red carpet when done well like it has been here.

Although Eva has the impressive Cartier jewels, Selita is completely glowing in J.Mendel and I prefer how her hair is neatly tucked away to show the shoulder detail.

This draws the eye down to the gathering at the edge of the waist which then creates a beautiful fall of material down to the floor. Ten gold stars to Selita as she is the winner here for me.
