Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: November 2009

Jennifer Lopez didn’t walk the red carpet at the AMA’s, but she gave us many costume changes to make up for it.

One of her looks backstage was this white bod-con Gucci Spring 2010 dress with many cut-out details.

She paired her dress with the runway heels which also had cut-outs.

On stage she opted for a gold dress with had exaggerated hips as she performed in Christian Louboutin heels.

At some point the skirt was removed reveal a lace playsuit, as Lopez changed into comfortable sneakers.

In yet another change backstage Jennifer looked her best wearing an embroidered strapless Marchesa dress with a feathery skirt.

It was Lady GaGa and Rihanna who provided the biggest talking point, as they both performed in body suits.

GaGa’s nude body suit was accented with dinosaur bones, whilst RiRi opted for a white bandage style body suit with exaggerated spikey shoulders.

The comeback queens both took to the stage.

Whitney Houston performed wearing a one-sleeved Kaufman Franco white jersey column, whilst Janet Jackson opened the show with a medley of some of the biggest hits wearing a khaki ensemble which again features pointed shoulders.

In the press room Shakira wore the same Herve Leger metal pailette-embellished bandage dress we saw on Jennifer Lopez recently.

Fergie showed us that if the rumours are true about Josh Duhamel he needs his head tested, as she look super hot and sexy wearing a bustier dress with patterned tights and thigh-high boots.

Kate Hudson was one of the presenters on the night.

The actress wore a silver Gianni Versace vintage chain mail cocktail dress, which she paired with nude heels.

Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester appears on the December 2009 cover of Glamour UK.

The star gives off a 60s vibe on the cover – shot by Robert Erdmann – which sees her sport big hair plus an animal print coat.

The rest of her editorial is not particularly exciting as we see her wearing D&G and the same Matthew Williamson zigzag dress we saw on Kelly Brook recently.

In her interview she talks about how her past relationships have inspired her music, how she wishes her Gossip Girl character Blair Waldorf would let loose and how she wasn’t born behind bars.

Here are some extracts from her interview.

On her work: “I’m proud of the work that I’ve done. I don’t care what people label me as. If they want to say I’m an actress, and I should never sing, that’s fine. If they know me for my music, because they don’t watch my show or my movies, that’s fine, too. I’m doing what I want with my life. I just do…me”.

Best Dressed Award
It’s been a long while since I was wowed by Fergie, but the singer did just that at the AMAs last night.

The singer walked the red carpet wearing an Armani Privé Fall 2009 black gown with asymmetrical zipper detailing which leads to a dramatic front slit.

The gown sparkles with thousands of black triangular paillettes and is embellished with tiny Swarovski crystals.

Fergie’s gown is slightly modified from the runway as the neckline differs plus Fergie’s gown has straps.

Black Louboutin’s plus a bracelet, armlet and large ring complete this stunning look.

Best Mini Dress Award
Alicia Keys has been a longtime friend of Giorgio Armani, so it’s not a surprise to see the singer wearing one of his stunning designs.

Her modified Giorgio Armani Spring 2010 cobalt blue, jewel encrusted strapless dress had an origami pleated detail on the bust which is more dramatic than the runway version.

I’m loving the aqua marine shades of blue, and the cute Swarovski crystal embellished shorts she wore under her dress.

She picked a fun piece from this collection that truly embodied the spirit of the AMAs.

Most Dramatic Award
Whilst most below were picking out cute nude dresses, Rihanna opted for a dramatic black and white floral laser cut Marchesa Spring 2010 strapless gown.

I loved this gown and it needed a strong personality to pull it off, and Rihanna did in my opinion.

I will guess a lot of you will hate this look, but she gets a thumbs up from me even with those white shoes.

Nice Dress, Shame About The Hair Award
Shakira seems to be developing a healthy obsession with Versace, as this is her 3rd Versace red carpet look in a row.

This sexy Versace Spring 2010 ultra mini yellow dress with cut-out details was perfect for someone with tons of sex appeal like Shakira, but I couldn’t help but feel that they ran out of time to style her hair.

It felt a bit flat against her stunning dress which she paired with the Spring 2010 runway heels.

Looks Way Better On The Red Carpet Award
This Christian Cota Spring 2010 ivory dress could have gone oh so wrong on Kristen Bell had she worn it as it was presented on the runway.

She only pulled up the skirt a few inches and removed the chains, but it makes a world of difference.

Silver Christian Louboutin Archidisco T-strap sandals and a Judith Leiber clutch completed this cute look.

Inspired By Taylor Swift Award
Had Taylor Swift been at this event, this silver Talbot Runhof Spring 2010 mini dress is what we would’ve expected her to wear.

Selena Gomez is sparkling both via her dress and her winning smile wearing her dress with Rock & Republic’s “Romy” strappy sandals embellished with chain detail.

I’m really loving this look as Selena tends to dress way too mature and boring for her young age.

Toned Down Bling Award
Like Taylor, Carrie Underwood used to have an obsession with over embellished dresses.

On this occasion she looked beautiful wearing a metallic one-shouldered Theia dress paired with amazing gold strappy sandals.

Nude Award
From the nude make-up, to the nude dress and the nude Guiseppe Zanotti heels, Demi Lovato needed something to inject a bit of life into her look.

Luckily her Jenny Packham Spring 2010 dress has a jeweled detail on the neckline to stop this look from being so boring and totally washing her out.

Va Va Voom Award
No matter was Sofia Vergara wears she’s going to look sexy.

Even if she was wearing a bin liner.

Whilst most opted for Music Award standard mini dresses, Sofia wowed in a nude Emilio Pucci one-shoulder gown which no doubt would’ve had men going weak at the knees.

Kate Beckinsale Will Be Green With Envy Award
It seems that since Paula Abdul left ‘American Idol’ that she’s had a style transformation.

Gone are those tacky costumey dresses, and in comes this stunning strapless lace mermaid hem gown.

The gown was so grand she need 2 people to help her walk down the red carpet.

I can’t remember the last time she looked this amazing.

Out Of Place Award
I love the delicate lace details on Nicole Kidman’s Balenciaga one-shoulder gown.

The pink and grey colours are gorgeous on her, but she always looks so out of place at these music events.

Worst Dressed Award
As much as I should be loving Kelly Clarkson’s dress based on the amount of embellishments are covering her dress, it fails to flatter her.

Needs To Check Out Style.com Award
Can someone please introduce Leona Lewis to Style.com.

She needs to be made aware that there are other designers out there than just Vivienne Westwood.

Yes she makes great designs, but Leona is only picking pieces that look exactly the same and it’s getting incredibly boring now.

I’ll lose it if I have to refer to those clunky ankle boots and that corset belt, so I’m going to pass.

What’s Happening? Award
Keri Hilson used to be so interesting to watch on the red carpet, but her look has started to become boring and stale.

I hope she gets back to her best soon, because she can do better than a LBD.

Before Rihanna and Beyonce Knowles, Janet Jackson was the all singing all dancing female entertainer we all idolised.

I have mimicked everything from her key earring to her hair styles, plus I’ve even tried to copy her dance routines. For me she is the ultimate American Idol.

During Fashion Week I was lucky enough to see her at both the Versace Spring 2010 presentation and the after party.

She later went onto many other shows in Milan and later Paris, but it seems she was most interested in what was happening at London Fashion Week.

I say that because she wore 2 pieces from Todd Lynn’s Spring 2010 London Fashion Week presentation, which featured metallic shoulder-pads in the video for her new single “Make Me”.

The 43 year old singer she has it.

In the video she shows she still has the Jackson magic with an amazing catchy tune, and an energetic dance routine which takes me back to her “Rhythm Nation” days.

I love the hat-tips to Michael at various points of the video.

Forget Whitney, Janet’s back.

On Saturday nights X Factor show Dannii Minogue’s Ralph & Russo dress was a total disaster.

I only have 3 words for it TACKY, Tacky and tacky.

It looks like something a WAG like Alex Curran would wear.

Her dress was so dated and screams Euro trash, I was incredibly disappointed with her look.

Joan isn’t looking any better in this picture.

Dannii managed to redeem herself and do a complete 180 on Sunday’s show wearing an elegant Donna Karan Fall 2009 belted merlot jersey gown.

The turtle-neck gown hugged her curves and was more sophisticated than her previous look.

I think that Dannii should just stick to J’Aton Couture, as she was a knock-out when they were dressing her.

Everything else seems to pale in comparison.

My first reaction when I saw Cheryl Cole on Saturday nights X Factor was “What the hell is she wearing?”

I’m her biggest fan, but this Giles Spring 2010 dress was ridiculous.

I tried to convince myself to like it during the show telling myself the look was cute and fun, but then she stood up to give Joe Mcelderry a standing ovation, and then I saw her thorn tattoo around her thigh and it just confirmed how wrong this look was for her.

It was Wham night, so I guessed the hairstyle was supposed to resemble a young Madonna in “Desperately Seeking Susan”, but ended up looking very childish.

Her Christian Louboutin Fifre ankle boots were the icing on a very tasteless cake.

Sunday night was much better as the X Factor judge wore a hot pink Jean Pierre Braganza Spring 2010 backless cold-shoulder dress from the designers ‘Psychadelactica’ collection.

I loved the bold colour, the tasteful plunging neckline, and the cute matching globe earrings.

The look was paired with Nicholas Kirkwood pearl embellished sandals.

Like I said it was better, but overall it she’s had much better weeks on the show.
