Last night I was stocking up on sweater dresses in Toshop’s Oxford Circus store when something caught my eye.
It was a Topshop brooch and corsage belt which instantly made me think of a similar belt presented on the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2009 runway.
It has the same black corsage detailing, and the brooch details accenting the belt to make it stand out and become instantly recognisable.
The Dolce & Gabbana belt may have set you back a few hundred pounds, but the Topshop one is only £38.

that is a pretty good copy, and for the price the topshop one doesnt look too bad.
is it legal to do such things? I noticed various of times when clothes from asos, yoox, etc were almost identical with other designer clothes. yes, we can say that fashion is predictable, but why copy perfectly something when you can just be inspired, I don’t know, change the fabric, shorten the hem, stuff like this. otherwise, for me it is plagiarism. on the other hand, it is topshop who does this, not a small shop from the countryside. so?
I think it’s hard to prove were inspiration starts and copying begins.
I would add my own brooches and gems to that Topshop belt – make it look more D&G
hehe
I had a look at the Topshop site last night and came across this skirt:

I thought that it was “inspired” Isabel Marant’s FW 09 collection. Great price, though!!
I believe erverybody knows this case:

@fashion critic: I still don’t know if it’s ok to put a link in our comments, so you can erase it if I make something wrong
so long as there’s no pop up or porn then it’s ok
Do you mean the link in my post? LOL!! Nope, no pop-ups, no porn… unless we consider TopShop to be High Street Retail Porn.. hehehe
Hi FC!
Pls ignore my last comment…. I didn’t see dressaddict’s post… sorry….
I see so many of these copycat pieces at Forever 21. Seriously, from Balmain to Alexander Wang to Chanel… you can pretty much find New York Fashion Week at Forever 21. I don’t know how to feel about it! It’s great because I’m a student & on a budget, but at the same time, it just feels wrong. =/
I like Topshop belt more!
