Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: October 2009

Last night at former ‘Countdown’ TV presenter Carol Vorderman wore a grey Victoria Beckham Carmontelle cashmere-blend dress on the red carpet when she attended the ‘Reveal’ magazine party.

The press always give Carol a hard time about what she wears, but she looks fantastic for her 48 years, plus she’s not afraid of fashion.

A few years ago the press criticized her heavily for wearing Roland Mouret Galaxy dresses – she had a blue and green one.

They almost went as far a saying that she shouldn’t have been allowed to wear the dress, which was a favourite of many celebrities.

When I spoke to the Roland Mouret a few weeks ago about the horrible press Carol had received, he shared my disappointment at how the press had treated her.

He said, “I design for every woman”.

“She brought the dress, she looked fantastic in the dress, why shouldn’t she wear the dress?”

Why indeed.

This is not first time Carol has worn a Victoria Beckham dress.

A few weeks ago she was spotted wearing a Victoria Beckham Ribart felt dress which features a zip running from top to bottom down the back.

This dress was equally flattering, skimming her curves as she posed.

This dress is available to purchase from Net-A-Porter US for $1,875, but has sold-out on the international site.

Alexa Chung pulled this Luella Fall 2007 cute floral print mini dress out of her no doubt huge closet, to wear on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards last month.

The cute mini dress has a poufy skirt aided by a black tulle underlay.

Alexa carried a black clutch and toughen up her cutesy look with manly boots.

Beatrice may have been inspired by Alexa, as she wore the same dress a few weeks later.

On a cold October night out with her sister Princess Eugenie, she didn’t wear a coat but opted for tights to keep her warm.

Beatrice has the perfect figure of this 50s style dress, it fits her better than Alexa, plus she ran an iron over it before she left her house unlike Alexa so Princess B wins for me.

I searched all over and couldn’t find anything modified on Donatella Versace’s Spring 2010 strapless blush gown.

I guess her mantra was in this case, ‘if it ain’t broke why fix it?’

I would go as far as to say that I prefer this gown on Donatella, because the bodice is more tightly fasten giving Donatella a stunning silhouette.

Shakira got the honour of wearing a gown from the recently presented Atelier Versace Fall 2009 collection.

The gunmetal gown had a corseted bodice which reduced the singers already tiny waist, before skimming her famous curves and revealing her sexy legs via a central split.

Leather details accented the strapless gown, which looks great on Shakira but fails to wow as I would’ve expected.

Despite Lake Bell wearing a simpler gown I love the way she totally owns this look.

The colour is divine on her olive skin and the cut accentuates her toned figure.

Taylor Momsen wore stunning nude Grecian Versace Fall 2009 chiffon gown embellished with metal details around her waist.

I love the gown, but hair and make-up pour cold water all over this look for me.

She could have laid off the heavy eye-liner for one night.

Nothing surprises me about Alexa Chung’s look. The ankle boots were very much expected.

I’m just glad she’s not wearing them with a beautiful gown.

Mischa Barton is already quite a broad shouldered girl, so I was surprised she picked the only gown from the Versace Fall 2009 collection which would highlight her broad shoulders.

The sapphire blue is beautiful on her though.

Lisa Edelstein may not have been wearing a Versace gown, but her Pamella Roland Fall 2009 black gown was just as a elegant as the rest.

I love the black velvet spiral detail around her waist and the bejeweled strap.

Great look for her.

If this was a model face-off Isabeli Fontana would win.

The Versace Fall 2009 aqua dress is hugging her in all the right places, whereas it’s just hanging off Chanel Iman.

Lindsay Lohan arrived at this event wearing a fluffy pink Versace Fall 2009 coat, but removed it inside to reveal a strapless gold mini dress.

I expected it to be from her recent Emanuel Ungaro Spring 2010 disaster collection, but the gold dress may have been custom made for her by Donatella for this event.

Since Jennifer Hudson had her baby boy we haven’t really seen her glammed up on the red carpet until this event.

She didn’t let us or herself down by looking like a fairytale princess wearing a blush pink Versace gown, which she paired with a matching pink clutch and diamond bracelets.

She was my 3rd favourite of the night after Lake Bell.

Taylor changed into a Versus Spring 2010 mini black dress, as she was the DJ at the after party.

I guess this explains the heavy eye make-up, as it’s much more appropriate for this LBD.

The stockings?? I can’t even go there.

Eva Mendes spent the weekend in Abu Dhabi after flying in to attend the closing ceremony of the Middle Eastern Film Festival.

It was the first time the actress had visited the region, and she would have left a lasting good impression walking the red carpet looking radiant wearing a white J.Mendel Pre-Fall 2009 gown.

The white one shoulder asymmetrical gown with a front draping and jeweled waist clasp, was interestingly paired with a maroon beaded necklace and matching bracelet.

The actress is definitely a contender for BDOTW.

Lily Allen looked like a modern day ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ wearing Marc Jacobs Fall 2009 florescent pink coat.

She was spotted wearing this coat as she left Cindy Crawford’s Omega Constellation 2009 party at the Almeida club in London last week.

Her florscent pink hooded coat ensured she got the attention of the paperazzi, unlike some stars who like to hid behind sunglasses at night.

She teamed her coat with Chanel bag, as one would expect.

I don’t about you guys, but I ADORE her in this coat.

You have to admire Rinko Kikuchi, as she always keeps things interesting on the red carpet.

The actress opted for a head-to-toe Sophia Kokosalaki Fall 2009 runway look which is ever so slightly modified.

The gold strappy dress with a black skirt, is gathered and embellished with silver panels.

What I love most about this look are Rinko boots.

She looks like a warrior, on her way to battle.

A much as I love Zoe Saldana and her Giambattista Valli Spring 2010 orange floaty mini dress, it doesn’t feel quite grand enough for a Film Festival opening ceremony.

Her previous look would at the “Avatar” stage greeting would have been preferred.

The shoes are also killing me.*yikes*

Sigourney Weaver has the tendency to drop some stink bombs on the red carpet, but she comes up smelling of roses on this occasion wearing a petrol blue satin off-the-shoulder gown.

Japanese actresses Tae Kimura, Ryoko Hirosue and Miki Nakatani walked the red carpet together, each wearing red dresses in various styles, shades and textures.

Ryoko in the middle opted for a strapless silk chiffon Derek Lam dress with frayed ruffles at the ruched bodice, which she paired with champagne coloured heels.

Tae’s red strappy gown is very elegant in it’s simplicity, and Miki strapless velvet gown is divine.

I always wondered that if this Chloe Fall 2009 halter nude dress was worn on the red carpet, if the wearer would be tempted to belt it.

Japanese actress Rie Miyazawa didn’t, she kept the dress loose and floaty.

I love the ruffled collar on this dress.
