Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: September 2009

Basso & Brooke Spring 2010 collection didn’t disappoint with a beautiful display of colours that make you feel you are looking down the barrel of a kaleidoscope.

Why is it only Katy Perry, Michelle Obama and Little Boots who are brave enough to wear these prints?

Erdem’s Spring 2010 collection was a girlie girls dream with florals, lace and short hemlines.

Check out the Christopher Kane Spring 2010 collection were gingham chiffon and thigh-split dresses were all the rage.

Supermodel Jenny Shimizu looked hugely out of place wearing a black tuxedo.

We’ve already seen Alexa Chung wearing a cute dress from the Luella Spring 2010 collection, but who else will be brave enough to take on this kooky collection?

Tulle-frilled dress, polka dots and bubble cut skirts were all on display.

I see Chloe Sevigny wearing this collection.

The Grecian look was very much the look for Amanda Wakeley’s Spring 2010 collection.

Many model looked like they were draped and wrapped with material creating stunning dresses and bikinis in earthy colours such a burnt orange and sand. Other colours included grey, gold and chocolate.

Mischa Barton had a blast during New York Fashion Week. She was front row a many shows, and she also enjoyed hanging out at some of the hippest parties.

One of those parties was the Marc Jacobs after-show-party held at Hiro in New York.

To that party she wore a black embellished Marc Jacobs Fall 2009 mini dress with lace sleeves and a studded wrap-around belt, plus tights and black flats.

Elettra Wiedemann wore the same dress a few day later when she arrived at “The Burning Plain” premiere at Landmark’s Sunshine Cinema in New York.

She wore a pair of sexy strappy sandals, which I preferred to Mischa’s flats.

As much as I want to give this to Elettra, I really don’t like the way the bottom half of the dress hangs down exposing the lace underlay, which as a result gives the look a maternity feel.

So once again I’m giving a win to Mischa by default.

Selma Blair wore a similar one-sleeved version of this dress to the Costume Institute Gala.

10th Anniversary Woodstock Film Festival Launch Party, New York

Lucy Liu, you I love you more than most but this BCBG Max Azria Fall 2009 dress does nothing for you.

I don’t like the colour nor the shape.  It looks restricting like a straitjacket.

I will however compliment you on your Krocoa black patent clutch and dove grey peep-toes.

The Wonderbra Party Edition Launch, London

I only had to look at those fine embellishments around Dita Von Teese’s bust line to recognise that this black fitted skirt suit is by Dior.

The perfect silhouette for our porcelain princess.

Style360 Fashion Week Closing Party, New York

I’m quite surprised how much I like this chocolate brown embellished Hervé Léger by Max Azria Fall 2009 bandage dress.

She paired the dress with the perfect pair of strappy sandals.

NSF, The Human Society, And The GQ Magazine Benefit, LA

With her boyish crop Ginnifer Goodwin flashed us a smile wearing a leopard print Escada Fall 2009 button down dress with a fold-over detail, paired with black satin Brian Atwood “Starlet” pumps.

The lengths those Kardashian sisters will go to outdo each other sets a new low in attention seeking.

Khloe Kardashian who I believe is set to get married to her boyfriend of 5 mins this weekend, arrived at this event wearing sheer black sweater dress, which exposed her bra.

Seriously is it that hard to realise a nude bra will show up under a black dress such as this?

I’ve been on the fence regarding thigh-high boots for a while now, but Khloe has totally killed any desire I may have been secretly harboring.

Her Christian Louboutin Supra Fifre 120 thigh-high boots are so ‘Pretty Woman’.

“Par Coeur Gala” for Association Make A Wish with Tony Parker, Paris

Eva Longoria’s purple strapless dress neither excites nor disappoints.

It’s on-the-fence OK.

Gucci and Windsor Smith Honor Dr. James Orbinski and Dignitas International, New York

Camilla Belle opted for a navy blue wool kilt dress with buckle detailing down one-side.

Her look is paired with Gucci midnight blue platform heels and grey Gucci clutch.

2nd Annual ACM Honors, Nashville

I have grouped Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler together because they are equally tragic.

Seriously ladies what happened to you?

Did you lose Naeem Khan and Georges Chakra’s number?

Peter Pilotto’s Spring 2010 presentation was full of chic mini dress in bold colours.

Designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos vision was dusty, sun bleached landscapes of far-flung destinations.

I loved the prints which reminded me of the sun rising burning out the dark sky, or a dark yet colourful bonfire night.

The common colour was grey, often mixed with burnt orange or azure blue.

The mini dresses were far from typical, they were twisted, draped pleated and embellished to dramatic effect.

Despite the heavy colours everything felt really light.

It wasn’t only mini dresses that were featured. Jackets, high-waisted shorts, pleat-front pants, twisted skirts in layers of hidden pleats and tucks, cinched with belts.

The models looked powerful as they stomped the runway in their Nicholas Kirkwood heels.

This was a very enjoyable presentation, and I hope to see many of the pieces on the red carpet.

Here are some picture I took from my front row seat.

Can you spot the famous face in the background?

This is the finale which I shot on my camera.

Selita Ebanks, Vice Chair of the New Yorkers for Children Gala looked amazing wearing a J. Mendel Spring 2010 citron draped gown.

I tend to associate Victoria’s Secret models with bod-con mini dress, but Selita temporarily blows that stereotype out of the water.

The model wore Slane & Slane jewelry and carried a Nancy Gonzalez clutch to complete her BDOTW worthy look.

It’s been a while since we have seen Joy Bryant on the red carpet, but during her time-out one this hasn’t changed.

Her love for Missoni.

At this event she wore a leaf print Missoni Fall 2009 stone silk dress with bold multi-coloured leaf print.

This is the perfect transitional look for fall.

Hilary Rhoda sparkled wearing a sterling silver ombre paillette halter Naeem Khan Spring 2009 dress with very deep plunge.

Matching strappy sandals and clutch complete this sexy look.

I wasn’t at all crazy about this Cavlin Klein Resort 2010 blue/grey off-the-shoulder dress when I saw it on the runway, but Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann injects a bit of personality and body into the dress to make it much more appealing.

Alina Cho wears a purple Oscar de la Renta pleated duchess satin gown which was my favourite from the Fall 2009 collection.

I was going to say I prefer the runway belt, but she is wearing the runway belt. The lighting makes them appear different.

Ines Rivero wears the same zebra print Naeem Khan Resort 2009 gown which Eva Longoria wore to Roselyn Sanchez wedding.

Mary J Blige wore a rose strapless crepe Gucci gown with bow detailing on the hip.

I love this colour on her, but as always the tattoos turn me off.

Her look was paired with a black python Gucci clutch.

Tinsley Mortimer is wearing my favourite colour of at the moment – electric blue.

Her dress was paired with a pair of grey heels.

I wonder if they will become her new favourites.

This is the 4th dress Victoria Beckham has worn from her Spring 2010 collection which she presented just 11 days ago, and it’s by far my favourite.

She wore this dress when she attended the Fashion East Spring 2010 presentation during London Fashion Week.

I hope to see it on Net-A-Porter soon.

I love the dove grey colour, the asymmetrical cut-out detail and the black sash around her waist.

Many of you will say the silhouette is very de ja vu, but we will have to accept that this is very much Victoria’s signature style.

I’m sure you will have noticed that Victoria is wearing yet another pair of YSL Trib Two shoes, which match the colour of her dress.

Trib Two’s were presented will all her dresses, so it wouldn’t surprise me if she requested many of them in different colours.

Victoria is posing with Lulu Kennedy who is the founder of Fashion East.
