Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: September 2009

After the Versace Spring 2010 show I went backstage to speak to Donatella Versace.

She was very happy and excited about her presentation.

It was the same kind of excitement I would expect to see from someone presenting their first collection, so it was great to see that enthusiasm for what you are passionate for never dies.

I was dying to know what was her inspiration behind the collection and the reason why she always modifies her runway pieces when she wears then.

“My body is not a models body, I like to dress for my body.” Which I had always assumed.

Donatella told me that for her Spring 2010 collection she was inspired by Tim Burton’s upcoming film version of Alice in Wonderland.

“I loved the colours, the patterns. It’s how I see Alice in the Versace world, with the fairytale and the prince.”

“I used all the Versace elegance in a modern way, and tried to evoke emotion, because passion is love.”

Later on that evening I was invited to the Versace after show party which was held at the Versace residence.

It was there I saw Janet Jackson with Jermaine Dupri -yes I guess they are back together- and my other heroine Pat MCGrath who is such a sweet person.

“The Joneses” Cast Private Soiree – 2009 Toronto International Film Festival

Demi Moore is one of the classy women in Hollywood.

After a red carpet full of black looks at the Teen Vogue Hollywood Party, Mrs Kutcher shows those youngster the key to looking young is wearing cute canary yellow dresses, like her J. Mendel Resort 2010 dress.

The super cute dress has ruffle details through-out, paired with Brian Atwood pumps and a Bulgari clutch.

“Half The Sky” Book Party, New York

For this event Demi wore a black and gold Christian Dior Fall 2009 floral jacquard dress.

I didn’t pay much attention to the jacket version on the runway, but Demi gives it the wow factor in her sheath dress paired again with her favourite Brian Atwood pumps.

The Clinton Global Initiative Fifth Annual Meeting

Demi Moore wore a one shoulder grey suede cocktail dress from Christian Lacroix Spring 2009 collection for this event.

The dress had an interesting detail on the bodice and a ruffled detail on the shoulder.

It look like she again wore her Brian Atwood pumps.

Out & About, New York

Demi Moore was seen leaving a downtown hotel in New York wearing a very smart pinstriped navy suit, paired with navy pumps whilst carrying a Christian Dior Granville tote.

Proving that she can do smart, cute, sexy and sophisticated.

On my way to the Versace Spring 2010 show I was so excited I could hardly wipe the massive grin off my face.

Outside the venue there was the biggest crowd of people I had ever seen. Everyone was desperate to see this show.

My seat in the 4th row gave me a perfect view in the beautifully dim-lit room with white sheets draping from the ceiling. It felt so romantic.

I was 3 rows behind Anna Wintour and BFF Roger Federer who looked really shy with all the attention his attendance with the most powerful woman in fashion was creating.

Once Janet Jackson took her seat, the lights went down and the music started.

The first few looks were ultra short, colourful and beautiful.

One of my favourite mini was the pink mirrored mini dress worn by Natasha Poly. I would love to see this dress on the red carpet at the upcoming American Music Awards. Katy Perry immediately springs to mind.

Bustier dresses, short skirts, tight-fitted tops, polka dotted pants, and belted coats were all presented alongside the minis.

The colour palette ranged from baby blue, pink, lime, aqua, grey, white, silver and yellow.

The prints were very striking. Some were tropical and some were psychedelic. PVC skirts and dresses were covered in these prints, which were worn over bikini’s and panties.

The collection wasn’t all about ultra short mini dresses on leggy models, we were also presented with sultry gowns Versace is known for.

The gowns stood apart with thigh-high splits, cut-out details, slashes to the hips and embellishments.

I would love to see Kate Winslet wearing the plunging mint green gown, and Penelope Cruz wearing the aqua blue one-shouldered gown.

There was something for everyone in this collection. Teen Hollywood will love the minis, and daring A listers will love the gowns.

I was able to go backstage where I saw those amazingly high printed platform heels that the models wore, plus the candy coloured bags they carried.

These bags will no doubt become the ‘IT’ bag next summer.

The show finished with the models all lined up showing the best pieces from the presentation, prior to Donatella Versace taking her bow.

It was the perfect way for Donatella to close the show.

Becki Newton said that when she attended the Jason Wu Spring 2010 show it was “The Best Hour Of My Life”. I totally share that sentiment for my experience at the Versace show.

It was as exhilarating as I had expected and more. I still get butterflies thinking about it.

Salvatore Ferragamo

I was very surprised to see Rachel Bilson in the front row at Salvatore Ferragamo.

Rachel’s has a dress-down sense of style that just doesn’t fit the Ferragamo brand, so this connection doesn’t quite work for me, neither does the navy Fall 2009 dress which she paired with lace fingerless gloves and ankle boots.

Dolce & Gabbana

Peaches Geldof is still going strong during Fashion Week appearing in front rows at New York, London and now Milan.

The…well I’m not quite sure what she does…wore a graphic print long sleeved dress from the designers Fall 2009 collection, with both the tight and runway shoes.

I’m surprised she opted out of wearing those puffy shoulders.

Daisy Lowe didn’t think the red furry jacket would garner her enough attention, so she opted to arrived in red leopard print pants too.

10 out of 10 for bravery. 1 out of 10 for subtlety.

Great legs though.

Margareth Made brought back the sophistication to the front row at this show looking stunning wearing a lace dress from the Fall 2009 collection which was fully lined, unlike the sexier runway version.

Giorgio Armani

Zhang Ziyi opted for a cute Armani short suit look, with a black baker hat.

I loved her ombre sequined jacket with a ruffled collar.

Janet Jackson went for a more casual look including an argyle cardigan, a white shirt and wide stripped pants.

More office wear than front row, but she looks good as does her Zagliani python envelope bag.

Gucci

Mary J Blige sparkled wearing a bejeweled Gucci top, paired with Gucci thigh-high boots.

The Jimmy Choo for H&M collection goes on sale November 14, but before the collection has even been released H&M has already announced it next collaboration with Sonia Rykiel.

Sonia Rykiel is known for her knits and stripes, but the collaboration with H&M will surprisingly include lingerie.

The collection will be launched in two parts. The first collection will be in stores December 5, 2009 followed by another collection which will be released on February 20, 2010.

The second collection will include Rykiel’s classic knitwear and accessories.
