Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: September 2009

The Alice + Olivia’s Spring 2010 show was more like a huge party in a warehouse.

Everyone was milling around enjoying the free bar and a performance by French girl band, the Plastiscines.

The models were to the left of the stage, some were standing and some perched on podiums.

The pieces were whimsical and ultra feminine.

The colour palette consisted of white, silvery greys, nudes, purples and 2 rainbow dresses.

Some pieces had an Alice in Wonderland feel to them with their full skirts and ribbos, whilst others were a bit edgier like the LBD paired with lace leggings.

Everything was totally wearable and I expect to see the many celebrities who attended to wear these pieces both on the red carpet and ‘off duty’.

All the shoes from this presentation are from the Alice + Olivia for Payless collection, which will be available early February.

The collection is expected to also included coordinating handbags which a price point of under $40.

The celeb count was high at this event. If you follow me on twitter you would have seen my tweet updates as each celeb arrived.

‘OMG Jared Letro is at the Alice + Olivia party’ I updated in genuine shock.

Everyone looked great especially Mena Survari who wore a stunning strapless LBD.

The other attendees I saw were Shenae Grimes who was so interest in the collection that she took notes. Kristin Cavallari who is a sweet as pie – don’t fall for that bitchy persona she was so nice. I had a quick chat with her which I will write up later.

Tinsley Mortimer was also there wearing the same strapless dress which Kelly Brook wore a few weeks ago.

Kelly Rutherford who I had spotted earlier that day at the Bryant Park Hotel with her newborn baby, took a night off nursing to join in the fun.

Nicky Hilton sparkled wearing a gold sequin top and matching pigalles.

Stephanie Pratt looked very very svelte wearing an embellished top with black leggings. She arrived with Holly Montag who looked a hot mess. Very 80s prom gone tragically wrong.

Best Dressed Award
Taylor Swift looked so graceful on the red carpet wearing a Kaufman Franco Resort 2009 one shoulder draped nude silver sequin gown.

I know many of you are rolling your eyes and saying “Not another embellished red carpet dress”, but you can’t deny who stunning she was on the red carpet.

Red Carpet Rebel Award
Leighton Meester doesn’t know what ‘play it safe’ means, and I love her for constantly keeping things interesting.

The red carpet rebel wore an interesting white and grey sequin Christian Cota Fall 2009 dress with petal sleeves.

Crazy studded Giuseppe Zanotti fan cut-out boots, a Bottega Veneta clutch, and Cathy Waterman jewelry completed the look along with smoky eyes and a single bangle.

Most Improved Award
Maybe it’s because she stopped trying so hard, or maybe it’s because her sister looked so bad but I liked what Solange was wearing for a change.

Her Armand Basi One LBD with a interesting folded details doesn’t scream “attention” for once.

De Ju Vu Award
Katy Perry does look amazing wearing this Blonds Spring 2009 strapless spikey dress which has been modified from the runway, but I’ve seen so many variations of this corset on Rihanna, Britney and Fergie that I’m starting to get a bit bored of this look.

As if her dress didn’t sparkle enough she added JudeFrances jewelery to her look.

It’s A Bit Formal, But I Love It Award
Nelly Furtardo’s Elie Saab Fall 2009 sheath dress with an embellished neckline may seem to formal for the VMAs, but I absolutely love this dress.

It reminds me of the dress Kelly Osbourne wore to the GQ Awards last week.

Best Mini Dress Award
Rose Byrne was the biggest surprised on this red carpet, but she got into the spirit of the event by wearing a cute Marc Jacobs Resort 2010 black mini dress with a purple floral print.

Best Balmain Award
Shakira’s sexy look was more fitting to this Balmain Fall 2009 dress than Pink, even though most of us are not fans of the thigh-high boots trend.

Best LBD Award
Alicia Keys who I would’ve expected to wear something more colourful, opted for a black sequin Dolce & Gabbana dress with silver circle details.

A sliver clutch and multi-coloured heels complete the look.

Best Jumpsuit Award
After Amber Rose’s hideous jumpsuit Keri Hilson couldn’t do any worse.

She looked stunning wearing a sexy – yet not trashy -black plunging Charlotte Ronson Fall 2009 jumpsuit with embellished wide shoulders.

Davidelfin showed for the first time in Bryant Park this week. Amerie attended the show and obviously became a instant fan of the collection.

Best Use Of Colour Award
Whilst a lot of stars opted for black Amerie brought a burst of colour to the red carpet, wearing an aqua Davidelfin Spring 2010 mini dress which was just off the runway.

She paired her caped dress with black pigalles and an ankle accessory.

Most Predictable Award
I knew Alexa Chung was going to walk this red carpet wearing a cute dress with ankle boots. She didn’t let me down.

I hate the boots, but I can’t deny how cute her Luella Fall 2007 dress is.

Best High-Street Award
Lauren Bosworth’s may have only spent $268 on her black and white embroidered French Connection Damask dress but it was one of the best on this red carpet.

Neither Hate It, Nor Love It Award
I’m not a fan of Lady GaGa’s style by many means, but this was one of her finer moments.  Mostly because she was not exposing her derrière.

Her look was very theatrical with her gold Phantom of the Opera mask, tilted hat and feathered neck brace.

Under all that was a Jean Paul Gaultier black gown.

Worst Dressed Award
Amber Rose wore a snake-print long sleeved jumpsuit.

Enough said.

Most Predictable Award
After sitting front row at the Herve Leger show earlier this afternoon in a pink Herve Leger dress, Amanda Bynes doesn’t let us down.

LBD + Trib Two’s = yawwwwnnnnnn.

Most Ill-Fitting Award
Beyonce Knowles is wearing a pretty dress, but the skirt looks way too tight. The detail on the front is only adding to this problem.

What is it with Britney and Beyonce and this need to wear clothes that just don’t flatter.

Worst Brand Ambassador Award
I know Christopher Kane is really hot right now as we’ve seen similar versions of this black tulle skirt with velvet spiral trim in the past week. But shouldn’t Whitney have used this opportunity to promote her own debut collection she presented just 2 days ago?

Just asking.

It’s Lauren Conrad Collection all over again.

I Tried To Love It, But I Can’t Award
I didn’t like this Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 dress the first time we saw it on the red carpet, and Jennifer Lopez does nothing to change my mind.

I love that she’s not being predictable, but I’ve never liked this dress.

The singer pairs her dress with Christian Louboutin peep-toe lace ankle boots, with a leopard print heel.

Oh The Irony Award
Ashley Greene was the fashion correspondent for the night, which I found totally ironic considering how bad I thought she looked.

She arrived wearing this D&G gold skirt and a black strappy corset with ruffled edges, but later changed into a worse red skirt which bunched up like Beyonce’s.

I also really hated her gold skirt white clutch combo.

Ashley has to be the worst fashion correspondent ever, as she only asked Taylor Lautner what he was wearing despite interviewing Jennifer Lopez and Leighton Meester.

Worst Hair Award
Why do I always get a sense that Lauren Conrad just isn’t trying?

The dress is pretty if you like middle of the road on the red carpet, but the hair is just atrocious.  It ages her dramatically.

Worst Balmain Award
Despite us all laughing at Pink and Shakira’s expense for wearing the same Balmain dress on the red carpet tonight, Pink didn’t do this dress any justice.

For me it makes her look even more boxy.

After sparkling in a pair of Balmain heels in her ‘She Wolf’ video I was not particularly surprised when I saw Sharkira arrive at the MTV Music Awards tonight wearing a sparkling Balmain strapless studded leather dress.

SHOCKINGLY Pink arrived on a fire truck wearing the SAME DRESS.

Can you believe it?

Someone is getting fired tomorrow.

The two ladies saw the funny side luckily, as they posed together on the red carpet.

Shakira wore her dress with thigh-high boots, whilst Pink wore black patent heels.

Shakira wins this for me.

On Saturday Net-A-Porter and Style.com combined their online powers to bring you fashion advice in the Meat Packing district.

The airstream was like an Aladdin’s cave of beautiful things.

Balmain, Valentino, and Christian Louboutin heels were displayed in glass boxes. Mannequins were dressed in RM by Roland Mouret and Roberto Cavalli whilst runway shows played on the large flat screen TVs.

This beautiful display only wanted to make you go into the cave and find out more.

Inside you could browse Stella McCartney, Rick Owens, Preen, Oscar de la Rent and many more.

If anything took your fancy, you were able to use their laptops to make and order then and there.

As always Net-A-Porter are coming up with new and innovative ways to bring fashion to our fingertips.

After my Net-A-Porter adventure, I bumped into Lorenzo Martone.

He is GORGEOUS. Not only that he was such a sweetheart and a genuinely nice guy. I can’t gush about him enough. He could have just said hi and walked off but he was interested to hear about my time in New York.

We spoke in length mostly about my blog, but we also spoke about Marc.

I asked him how does Marc juggle his Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton commitments. Lorenzo told me that 2 months before the presentation things get tense and stressful for Marc, but that he is so talented and creative that he needn’t worry.
