Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: September 2009

As it will take me a few hours to put everything together, so here’s a first look at Giuliana Rancic on the Emmy’s red carpet.

She’s wearing an exquisite ice blue Gustavo Cadile Resort 2010 gown.

For the next 2 hours we are bound to only see Giuliana from the waist up on “E!’s Live From The Red Carpet”, so she wisely picked a gown that had a beautifully detail neckline.

What a great week for Gustavo Cadile, and what a great look for Giuliana.

Looking forward to the glam-cam, but not Ryan Seacrest. He never asked the right question…”Who Are You Wearing?”

I don’t think Jennifer Lopez has ever won a BDOTW poll, and she more than deserved it as she showed the world that curves can can look absolutely stunning in Victoria Beckham’s pencil dresses.

I opted for Drew Barrymore in Alexander McQueen.

I’m confident that Drew would have won the readers poll had it not been for the hair, but I kinda think the hair works ONLY on this occasion.

Next up will be the Emmy’s. I pray that the ladies don’t let us down.

I hope to see looks from the Spring 2010 runways of Prabal Gurung and Marchesa tonight.

The ALMA Awards aired last night, and here are the stunning gowns Eva Longoria wore.

Last year she changed 8 times during the night.  This time only 7 changes.

You’ll recognise the first gown because Emily Deschanel wore the strapless version of this stunning tulle Gustavo Cadile Fall 2009 gown at the 2009 Monte Carlo Television Festival Closing Ceremony.

The main difference is that Eva’s gown has been modified to become a one-shouldered gown with a contrast eggplant sash.

I adore this gown from the colour to the tiered skirt, and I’ve been in love with it from the very second I saw it in Cadile’s showroom.

Her second gown was also by Gustavo Cadile. This time she picked a luscious green gown from his Resort 2010 collection.

This gown also has a one-shoulder detail with a fan over her shoulder for added dramatic effect to the volume of the piece.

I don’t ever remember Eva wearing green before, but the colour is vibrant and really pops against her skin.

Eva’s next look was an Angel Sanchez Bridal Spring 2009 gown.

Thankfully this one-shoulder gown doesn’t have a sickly sweet bridal feel to it, as its quite simple with just bow detail on the bodice.

She gives this look an old Hollywood feel with her retro 50s hairstyle.

I’m really disappointed I couldn’t find a full-length version of Eva’s Carlos Miele Fall 2009 gown, as I think it would have looked spectacular on her with the dual prints and the chiffon flowing train.

Those hooped earrings are huge.

I would go as far as to say this Caroline Herrera Fall 2009 gown was my least favourite of the Fall 2009 season, and I dislike it even more on Eva.

It does nothing for her.

The other gowns brings colour, texture and vitality – this is just grey, dull, and unflattering for Eva.

Oscar de la Renta gowns were the 2 final looks for Eva on the night.

I love the blush gown with the sequin overlay. This kind of colour I really allows Eva to glow.

The black and white floral gown feels like it is swamping Eva with the 2 layers. This would be my second least favourite after the Herrera horror.

Australian designer Toni Maticevski tends to fly under the radar – possibly due to where he is based – but his Spring 2010 collection was full of red carpet ready stunning pieces.

The designer was inspired by “a dark and beautiful place where things die and are born again.” Which perfectly describes his haunting beautiful pieces.

I’m surprised fashion-forward celebs like Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Connelly haven’t worn his designs on the red carpet already, but hopefully this collection will grab the attention of those major stars.

Maticevski presented pencil skirts and architectural gowns festooned with layer upon layer of tulle and organza flowers.

Some of you say that people like Charlize Theron could wear a trash bag and still look amazing, well Maticevski has given those perfect stars that very challenge by creating gowns that appears to be made out of bin liners.

Along with the tulle and organza he used interesting splatter paint prints, ruffles, and lace. It was all very romantic, like he was seducing us with each look.

The dresses were stunning, but the shoes were outstanding with diamante and rosette details placed on the heel.

Angelina Jolie this collection has your name written all over it.

You may remember Abbie Cornish wore one of his gowns to Cannes Film Festival recently.

The second Arlenis Sosa stepped on the runway wearing a beautiful white dress with a floral print at the Tibi Spring 2010 show with Guns and Roses “Sweet Child Of Mine” blaring in the background, I knew I was going to love this collection – and I did.

Designer Amy Smilovic always give us something fresh, eye-catching, and youthful.

Her inspiration for spring was ‘Great Expectations’, set in the early ’90s and starring Supermodels.

I didn’t quite get the supermodel reference until I saw the show notes with each piece given a supermodels name, for example the Evangelista mini skirt.

We were presented with minis dresses, silk tops, bubble skirts, shorts, cropped pants and maxi dresses in both floral prints and brand’s signature hummingbird print.

There was a gasp in my area when the final pink gown with spaghetti straps and rosette details on the bodice came down the runway. It’s was so pretty and looks silky and velvety soft.

Tibi’s spring collection was simple and wearable, but elegant and incredibly pretty. The bold colours and bright prints added to the dimensions of the clean silhouettes, suitable for all women. Cute without being sickly sweet.

I loved that the models smiled through-out this presentation. Something I didn’t see much of during fashion week, and I loved the coral eye shadow.

The front row included Olivia Palermo and more reality TV show housewives.

Renowned couturier Georges Chakra presented his “Edition by Georges Chakra” Spring 2010 collection at New York Fashion Week, which was his second showing in the tents.

His 46 evening looks will have celebrity fans such as Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler gasping with delight at the many red carpet ready possibilities on display.

Colourful gown after gown was embellished with bedazzling jeweled necklines, tiers, pleating and wrap around silver belts tied with a coloured ribbon which either matched or was a contrasted to the dress.

The cocktail dresses and gowns had varying silhouettes from flowing gowns which glided gown the runway, to fitted dresses which would accentuate a tiny waist.

The Real Housewives of New York’s Jill Zarin was in the front row. I was baffled at how many times I saw these reality women in the front row.

Where is Sophia Bush when you need her?
