Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: August 2009

Earlier this week Taylor Swift was in the UK to play at Virgin Media’s V Festival.

Before arriving in London Taylor twittered, “About to take off. Next stop: London. Or as I like to call it… FUN-don.”

So she was expecting to have a great time, and it looks like she did.

On a shopping trip around Notting Hill the singer was spotted wearing oversized shades, Frye sandals and a cute floral Lipsy London backless sundress.

This dress is currently on sale reduced from £50 to £30.

Lipsy are currently offering Free Standard UK Delivery on all orders. Simply use the Promotion Code: BANKHOLIDAY.

This offer ends at Midnight Monday 31st August 2009

Taylor has developed an impressive personal style and this is evident in her other looks.

On her way to her performance on breakfast show GMTV, she wore a floral dress with brown cut-out heels.

A blue and green Rebecca Taylor dress with aqua Christian Louboutin peep-toe pumps were paired together for dinner at Hakkasan with Katy Perry.

On another night out she wore a violet Tracy Reese iridescent sculpted dress paired with a yellow bag, and black peep-toes.

On her way to V Festival she looked cute wearing a navy dress with a white print, paired with her Frye sandals again.

With the number 13 written on her hand, Taylor signed autographs for her fans outside her hotel.  She was dressed to enjoy our summer wearing a simple black and white tee, with a striped A line skirt.

Looking this good you’re always welcome back to London Taylor.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were at the Holt Renfrew in Toronto this week, to present their Elizabeth and James collection.

Mary-Kate wore a black coat/dress worn with a leather belt, and a stand out pair of bejeweled pair Miu Miu Cabachon heels.

Ashley opted for a simple sweater and white Elizabeth and James Edith shorts, paired with a few necklaces and stunning Prada studded t-bar sandals.

The girls looked great, but it was their heels that stood out for me.

Whilst in Toronto the girls stopped by the MuchOnDemand TV studio’s to talk about their two fashion lines plus which fashion trends “were whack” and which to “bring back.”

Mary-Kate wore an Elizabeth & James striped schoolboy shirt under an Elizabeth & James Boyfriend plaid coat which she paired with Prada Python Patchwork Sandals.

I love her look, but I’m not crazy about her barely there eyebrows.

Ashley look stunning as always wearing a pink blouse paired with grey pants, a green woven belt and her Prada heels from before.

Both sisters wore a Robert Lee Morris for Elizabeth and James Double Snake coil rings.

Looking at Sandra Bullock walking the red carpet at the “All About Steve” LA Premiere last night, I really wanted to say something positive because she picked probably the most difficult dress from the Lanvin Spring 2009 collection.

The multi-coloured strapless cocktail dress has a navy skirt, with pleated bodice of red, purple and nude.

She took a risk like some many actress fail to do, but the risk unfortunately didn’t pay off.

In fact it went horribly wrong, and that was down to the styling.

Firstly the ankle boots were a ridiculous choice with this dress.

I said recently that I hate the ankle boot trend at the moment, and this look proves why because it makes Sandra’s legs look so short and stumpy. A nude pump would have elongated her legs, as would a pair of pointy pumps.

Then I move onto the hair.

We all recognise this hair. This is the type of hair we sport when we just woke up or finished working out at the gym. This is not red carpet hair to complement a complicated dress. It even looks matted in places. *shakes head*

I love Sandy B, but this is my least favourite red carpet look from her and it’s not the fault of the dress.

Don’t blame it all on the dress.

It wasn’t only Blake Lively who was celebrating a birthday this week, our own Alexandra Burke turned 21 in style.

She had dinner at Nobu Berkeley in Mayfair, before moving on to private members’ club Shoreditch House.

The X Factor winner wore a black silk Stella McCartney top with perforated black leggings from the Fall 2009 collection, paired with Maroon patent Christian Louboutin Décolleté 100 Jazz pumps.

The Chanel quilted clutch was apparently a birthday gift from Simon Cowell. He sure knows how to spoil a lady.

Alexandra party was also a listen party as she treated her friends to the first play of her debut single “Bad Boys”.

These leggings can be purchased from Stella McCartney boutiques and Neiman Marcus for $895.

The “Inglourious Basterds” Amsterdam premiere I was waiting for never happened, so it should be safe to do this poll.

Diane Kruger didn’t have as many looks as Sienna Miller on her mammoth GI Joe promotional tour, but she was equally if not more impressive.

You will have to cast you minds back to May 2009 when this tour began at Cannes Film Festival.

She has since been to London, Berlin, Sydney, LA and New York.

My favourites are Atelier Versace, both Marchesa looks, Sydney and New York Chanel looks, and that stunning canary yellow Louis Vuitton dress.

It was Blake Lively’s 22nd birthday on Tuesday, but girlfriend has still gotta work.

Her recent looks are a mixture of sophisticated, laid back and sexy.

For her sophisticated look her hair was pulled back as she wore a strapless chiffon teal and navy pleated gown with plum Christian Louboutin Miss Boxe wedges.

Blake appeared to be making her way to set wearing a grey tank, white shorts and yellow Moccasins whilst carrying a Christian Dior Granville Tote.

Sexy comes via her plum Alexander Wang asymmetrical dress, paired with Christian Louboutin Python pumps and a lilac ostrich bag.

I’m glad Blake wore this dress right after Fabiola Beracasa trashed it at the “Inglourious Basterds” New York screening, as it helps erase that horrible memory.

Many of us have questioned Blake’s look as Serena, as she appears to be reverting back to her old ‘wild child’ ways.

In the above video “Gossip Girl” Costume Designer Eric Daman talks about the ‘new’ Serena.

Now all those Herve Leger dresses make sense.

Thanks for clearing things up Eric.
