They should’ve hired a black model……. Harper’s know that they will get the side eye for this one….. even though Michael had a cuturally diverse audience…… it’s gonna rub people the wrong way because he was an African American that opened the door for many other artists…..

Martin- if you are a Londoner I strongly suggest you check out Simon Foxton’s current exhibition at The Photographer’s Gallery.

It exposes how stupid the underuse of black models is in fashion today (2007 quote in point, from Stefano Pilati in Hint: “You can’t find [black models] that are beautiful and with the right proportions.” )

That being said, I think Agyness is a symbol of how universal MJ’s influence was, as Beth says. It is a powerful homage that a pale blonde from Manchester can work his look.

everyone should relaxe for goodness, okay a black model wasn’t used for the photoshoot, it does not matter, to be honest MJ was the first racially ambiguous singer that could be recreated by either a white or black model. i actually thought it was tastefully done compared to some unpleasant images of other people dressed like him. rip MJ

It’s curious that so many object to the blonde white model–I think Michael, especially in his final incarnation, would more than approve. He certainly moved as far away from his early appearance as he possibly could.
