Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: July 2009

Charlize Theron first wore the bold dupioni Rag & Bone Spring 2009 blazer to the 2008 Fashion Rocks event, along with black leather leggings and a stunning statement necklace.

Fast-forward nine months, and Molly Sims mirrored Charlize’s entire look right down to the black peep-toes at “The “Hangover” New York premiere.

The only difference is Molly’s pants were cropped.

Charlize wins as I feel no originality from Molly’s look, plus I like Charlize necklace, leather pants and the way she rolled up her sleeves to give her look an edgy feel.

If you are anything like me you will be feeling mixed emotions looking at Lady GaGa wearing this Alexander McQueen Fall 2009 knit dress with tubular coils around the hem and upper body.

Happy because a piece from that stunning collection has finally seen the light of day outside of an editorial, but sad this piece wasn’t worn by someone more statuesque like Tilda Swinton or Erin O’Connor.

Lady GaGa turned this dress into a comedy piece with the lace bunny ears, so I can’t love it like I want to.

Like most young girls, it seems Jessica Szohr covets Blair Waldorf’s closet.

The white lace dress Jessica wore to the Louis Vuitton event on Monday night, was from Anna Sui’s Target collection.

The collection is based on the styles of the 4 main Gossip Girl female characters: Serena van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, Jenny Humphrey and Vanessa Abrams

I think Serena, Blair and Jenny’s looks are pretty on the money, but Vanessa’s is way off.

What’s with all the brown and orange?

It’s been a while since we last saw Rachel Bilson on the red carpet, and I’m sure you have missed her like I have.

The actress opted for a 3 piece 3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2010 look consisting of a gold liquid lamé blazer and matching harem shorts with a black pleated sleeveless top.

I was loving this look including her Longchamp clutch until I panned down to the white pumps.

Leona Lewis opted to cover up her curves by wearing a gorgeous flowing 3.1 Phillip Lim Pre-Fall 2009 maxi dress with a tiered asymmetrical skirt and floating sleeves.

Again she impresses me with how stunning she looks.

Her look was complete with black studded strappy sandals.

Eve looked hot wearing a 3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2010 sheath dress with all-over metallic gold embroidery detail.

Her gold bangles plus her black clutch with a gold trim complemented her dress.

I was surprised that Shenae Grimes was at this event, but that just goes to show that she’s moving up in the world of celebrity fashionista’s.

Hopefully this will be the start of better choices on the red carpet.

She wore one of my favourite pieces from the 3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2010 collection.

I’m not sure if it’s a dress or a cropped polka dotted top with a nude skirt draping from the hips, but she looks amazing wearing it.

Nude peep-toe pumps and swept back hair completed this look.

Is it me, or is Molly Sims looking younger these days?

The model/actress looked stunning keeping her look simple wearing an off-white diamond cut 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2009 dress with a gold embellished neckline.

Her look was completed with a pair of Christian Louboutin ‘Deva’ shoe boots.

Kristen Bell’s dress has a lot going on with the shimmering graphite leather striped mini ra-ra skirt, plus navy sleeveless asymmetrical draped trompe-l’oeil top with the twisted detail.

It’s a lot to take in all at once, but Kristen just manages to pull it off.

We have seen this style of dress on Michelle Williams a few weeks ago.  At the time I thought it was a Resort 2010 preview, but it now looks to be a Spring 2010 preview.

Maggie Q wore a similar style to Kristin with her single sleeve asymmetrical draped trompe-l’oeil dress, but her mustard version was way sexier.

This dress would’ve worked better for me if it weren’t for the cream silk panel.

Jewel broke all the rules by arriving at the Lim event wearing a black and cream strapless Etro mini.

I’ll excuse the flats as she’s recovering from a foot injury.

Lynn Collins just gets worst and worst for me.

When she first stepped onto the red carpet a few months ago I thought we found a new red carpet golden girl, but her fascination with top hats is just becoming ridiculous.

I hope she has a word with herself or her stylist very soon.

Best Dressed Award
I wasn’t really expecting much from this event to be honest.

That all changed when I saw Venus Williams.  She really wowed me wearing a Mara Hoffman Spring 2009 print silk-chiffon maxi dress, with plunging neckline and tie to the waist.  She accessorized with a silver necklace and a matching ring.

Her hair was swept to one-side to add more elegance to her look.

She looks ace wouldn’t you agree?

Most Consistent Award
I only see Driver Danica Patrick on the red carpet once a year at this event and she always impresses.

Last year she wore a cute Nanette Lepore mini dress, this year she opted for a sexy yet sweetly feminine, Stella McCartney Fall 2009 dress.

The dress has been modified from the runway to be shorter plus her dress has nude panels with a lace overlay.

I love that she kept the rest of her look classic with simple jewelery, complementary two-tone black peep-toe heels and her hair styled into a beautiful updo.

Nice Dress, But I Prefer The Runway Version Award
Demi Moore looks great in her custom-made Zac Posen Resort 2010 cold-shoulder dress, but I LOVED the runway version so part of me feel a bit disappointed even though Mrs Kutcher looks super hot.

Black satin Bally platform peep-toe pumps and gold bracelets completed her look.

Most Improved Award
Serena Williams always goes for an ultra glamorous look which usually fails to work.

On this occasion her teal blue Roberto Cavalli gown is perfect.

The colour is gorgeous and the fit is flattering. For once I don’t notice her muscle, but I do notice her twins.

How does she run around a court for 2 hours? It’s gotta hurt.

De Ja Vu Award
Jaime Pressly wore a very similar Joey Tierney Couture LBD, and styled her hair in almost the same way when she attended the “I Love You, Man” LA premiere.

When she looks this drop dead gorgeous why not recreate the magic I guess.

Her skin is positively glowing.  She’s very much the yummy mummy.

Nice dress, shame about the hair Award
Miranda Kerr wore a fabulous white Calvin Klein haltered gown which looks stunning on her, but the hair doesn’t quite work for me.

I like that she tried something new as her style is usually the same, but I don’t think it suits her.

Worst Make-Up Award
WNBA player Lisa Leslie didn’t look in the mirror before she left the house. I refuse to believe anyone would knowingly leave their home looking this bad and not be aware.

YIKES!!!!

Most Zzzzzz Award
Out of all the Victoria Secret models who walk the red carpet Marisa Miller has to be the most boring, predictable and uninspiring.

Like Amanda Bynes it’s always the same formula.  Tight, short, black or white, Herve Leger or Dolce & Gabbana.

On this occasion she’s wearing a white strapless short Dolce & Gabbana dress, with a jeweled belt from the Spring 2009 collection.
