R.I.P. Michael Jackson

The first text I received this morning said “Michael Jackson is Dead”.

I thought it was some sick prank until I turned on the Sky News.  I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.  One of our last living legends had died.

Yes this is a fashion blog and I should only be talking about fashion, but I’ve loved Michael Jackson my whole life that I wanted to pay him a tribute.

He has made us smile over the last few weeks wearing Balmain and Givenchy better than many fashionista’s, and aside from David Beckham he was the only man to have a whole post to himself.

I was so upset when his concert ticket sold out in record time, now that sadness turns to mourning.

May he rest in peace.

So sad about this loss :( He was one of the best performers ever, if not the best. RIP.

Despite his controversial personal life, nobody will ever be as iconic in the music industry as he was.His music and legacy will live on forever

Such a big star, and such a sad end… It would be pity to remember him for his scandals, considering his great music… Billie Jean live forever… :) RIP

It is so sad that he has gone. He was extremely talented, but also a lovely and generous man. He will be missed.

My favourite radio station is doing tribute to MJ, and I find myself tearing up constantly – especially with Ben.

RIP to a great artist, that will be greatly missed :-(

I’ve had to turn off the radio and TV. So depressing I can’t handle it.

I found out yesterday through Twitter. It was still unclear when I got home, but an hour later all the major news outlets here in the States were confirming it. So sad. I hope people remember him more for his contributions to music than his antics in the last few years. Such a sad week for pop icons with the passing of Farrah and Ed McMahn too.

FC — The blog may be about fashion but it is also your blog! If you want to do a little tribute you should :).

    • Fashion Critic June 26, 2009 at 13:26 #

I hope only the music is remembered too.

      • Alicia June 26, 2009 at 18:34 #

For the people who understand everything he meant to so many people around the world, the music is really all that matters. Yesterday was horrid, but maybe now people will remember that he was this amazing cross-cultural unifying force. There’s a beautiful piece on him and his music at fourfour.typepad.com, I highly recommend it.

I think I’m in the minority because I never saw MJ when he was a popstar- I just saw him, you know, in the big court case and such. So he kind of scared me a bit. :S You know, with the plastic surgery and all. It’s only now that he’s died that I’ve realized that there was another side to him. :) It is sad that he has died.

    • Fashion Critic June 26, 2009 at 13:52 #

My sister has the same issue.

She is wondering what all the fuss is about since she only knew MJ from the court cases and such.

I been trying to educate her on what a global phenomenon he was.

This was the first gossip I’ve heard in the bus going to work today. And I was like come one people, this can’t be true, this is just a joke, but a really bad one… somebody made this up… you can’t believe everything you read and hear…

Oh nooo… I’ve been trying to get the tickets and wanted to fly to UK to see him live… the first poster my daddy allowed me to put on the wall in my room many many years ago was a huge collage I made with all the photos of Michael I could find or get from my friends… I’m so sad… sooo sad…

  13. robbie June 26, 2009 at 14:04 #

i kept hoping it would be some promotional stunt like “michael jackson wakes from the dead” but now that it is official it is just shocking and so sad. he was so young.

    R.I.P michael, and farrah aswell.

I was wondering if you would talk about it.. I’m glad you did. He clearly has a connexion with fashion, in regard of all styles he created and showed to the world, through decennies. I learned his death yesterday, in the evening, when I connected on MSN Messenger. I first thought it was a joke, then I told it to my friend, which was as surprised as me. Such a sad event. We will never forget him, event just by all of his dance moves we see in news videoclips!!

    I’m very very sorry.Poor Jack.RIP.

  21. Patty June 26, 2009 at 19:01 #

A die unexpected… why you don´t speak of his style throughout all of his life, and the legacy in fashion?

  22. Lala/S-R June 26, 2009 at 22:04 #

I know this is a fashion blog, but I was hoping you’d do this. The least we can do is pay homage to such an icon (and arguably a fashion icon, “GLOVES WONDER”!!!!). Yesterday was one of the most sombre days in the history of entertainment. I’m still in disbelief. He was a true legend and his legacy will forever live on.
May his very talented soul rest in peace.
    R.I.P MJ.

P.S Thanks for you doing this FC. I’m pretty sure most, if not all of us, appreciate it. Who isn’t a fan and who hasn’t he inspired, you know what I mean?

  23. Tania June 27, 2009 at 00:13 #

Glad you did this, he is a legend and musically genuis and I ♥’d his bold fashion choice’s. Yesterday afternoon I was celebrating my son getting into the school I wanted him to go too, in the evening when I heard the news I was mourning. when I was younger I look ed up to him as a black role model he will be greatly missed.

RIP MJ i’ve been watching your live performances on You tube and there’s none like you x

R.I.P Michael Jackson……. You were a huge part of my childhood…… and you will truly be missed…….. and you did indeed….. wear Givenchy and Balmain as if it were your own creations…….

    R.I.P. Michael Jackson.

He is a legend! Your the King of Pop, and King of Music. Your music and career will live on forever. He’s so influential and this is devastating news.

way too many got caught up with his personal life and issues. I think people forgot that he was a truly talented individual. Inspirational to so many. I still can’t believe he’s gone…=(

  26. kiran sooknandan June 28, 2009 at 00:52 #

I can’t help but wonder if Balmain was designing costumes for his tour that was previously going to take place. A true icon who will forever be remembered for his influence on music, art, fashion, film and the people. Who could ever forget him singing ”heal the world, make it a better place”? Or the powerful statement, ”It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white” (my childhood mantra!) I hope he finds the peace he seeked on earth in heaven.
