2009 CFDA Awards – Worst Dressed

Worst Dress Award
We’ve seen this Proenza Schouler Pre-Fall 2009 dress on Anne Hathaway and a sequined version on Amber Valletta. Both were beautifully styled.

Fabiola Beracasa decided to wear her blue snake-skin dress with a feathered concoction to add more dimension to her look, plus suede purple booties and a crazy updo.

Not a good look. In fact she looks quite scary.

You Can’t Wear Those Boots With That Dress Award
What was Agyness Deyn thinking?

She was wearing a pretty nude covered in gold sequined Anna Sui dress but it all falls apart the second she opted for those Marc by Marc Jacobs biker boots.

And just to stick a further nail in the coffin, she opted to wear a leather biker jacket.

I hate this schizophrenic style off dressing. You’re either wearing a cute sequined dress with strappy heels, or you’re a biker chick.

Pick a lane and stay in it.

This really hurts as I love Lake Bell.

Just a tiny pop of colour – even red lips – would have made a huge bit of different in this head-to-toe Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 look.

Looking as somber as she does doesn’t quite help either, plus I feel like ripping those sleeves off.

Nice Dress But…Award
Olivia Palermo wore a beautiful David Meister pink satin dress with an embellished panel on the bodice, and a peplum on the waist, but I’m perplexed as to why she would want to wear this kind of dress when she clearly doesn’t have the bust for it.

She looks like a child playing dress up in mummy’s clothes.

I’m thankful that she decided not to wear her favourite YSL Tribute sandals, instead she wore Topshop Passion Frill sandals.

Now would she please…oh please change that hairstyle.

Worst Posing Award
I couldn’t much focus on Tallulah Willis’ Calvin Klein Resort 2010 off-the-shoulder dress, because all I kept thinking about was pulling her shoulders back.

Bad posture just throws me.

Balmain With Tights Again? *eye roll* Award
I know I’m going to get lynched for this, but I just don’t understand Julia Restoin-Roitfeld’s obsession with wearing such short Balmain dresses then opting for tights.

The archetypal Balmain girl doesn’t wear tights imo. She has the confidence to walk tall in her mini dress, bold and sassy.

That being said I do love her black sequined dress and the Jessica Rabbit silhouette it gives her, but I think less bold runway version would have suited her better.

Fails To Flatter Award
Michelle Trachtenberg wore a very unflattering Behnaz Sarafpour Resort 2009 ensemble. She used to get it right all the time now she’s very inconsistent.

“She looks like a child playing dress up in mummy’s clothes”…. lol .FC you are just the best!

  2. r1ma June 16, 2009 at 09:12 #

I love Lake’s dress. It reminds me of Givenchy.

And Julia IS a typical Balmain girl. Least we forget that Kate Moss (THE Balmain girl) also wears tights with her Balmain.

I think the girls on this list are not horribly dressed…which says a lot with the standards of this event.

    • Fashion Critic June 16, 2009 at 09:30 #

      Strongly disagree.

Just because she is given Balmain or can afford to wear Balmain this doesn’t make her a typical Balmain girl.

Looking at what Agyness Deyn is wearing is nothing new; fashion magazines are always saying “toughen up a girlie dress with a leather jacket” etc it’s not original and it doesn’t look good to me! I can’t believe Julia’s waist is so tiny! I can’t understand why she insists on wearing tights all the time – it’s summer now, plus I’m sure she would have remembered to shave her legs before the event!

All I can say is that I love Agyness here.Perfect hair, and she’s the right person to wear this kind of look.In other girls it would have been too weird and inappropriate.
    I also like Julia.Tights or not,she’s cute.

  5. Anna June 16, 2009 at 10:43 #

out of all these looks, there isn’t even one I don’t feel like saying urgh to…

  6. Aideen June 16, 2009 at 10:56 #

michelle, did she suddenly turn 40? def dressing like her mum. all the others are ok not great but she dowdy, not a good look!

dude, you cannot even begin to know how excited i am when i come to this blog and see a whole slew of new posts.

“i want to scroll down to see all the pretty dresses, but i want to read everything, and i want to read all the comments, but maybe i should come back again later when there’s even more comments, but i want to read now, and i have to read every word FC wrote, but when is she going to post more, should i save these or else i’ll be stuck clicking refresh for something new repeatedly because i read everything too fast OMG I’M SO EXCITED!” true story. this is exactly what goes on in my head. there is absolutely nothing better than intelligent respectful commentary on beautiful women in beautiful clothes.

i love your comment on Agyness Deyn! Agyness looks very Party of Five right here. i have a girl friend who has a beautiful, classic sense of style, and whenever we go shopping at the mall, she looks at all the kids in mismatched tattered, supposedly edgy urban outfitters shopping spree clothes and wonders about the fashion sense of the wayward youth. i’m all for different styles and funking up clothes, but sometimes it’s just unnecessary and wrong… and you cry for the pretty dress that would have looked so beautiful sans combat boots.

“pick a lane and stay in it” priceless!

You are the sweetest person ever.

      I love this comment ;)

      xxx

I actually quite like Fabiola Beracasa’s look … minus the purple suede shoes.

All the others I more or less agree with. Agyness Deyn’s look doesn’t bother me as much, though.

    • Fashion Critic June 16, 2009 at 17:22 #

EHHH??? Jokes. Each to their own.

  9. EssenceDiva June 16, 2009 at 15:46 #

Michelle Tractenberg looks fat! I love her but look at her legs! Ughh! I love Tallulah’s dress, yea the posture sucks but she looks good nonetheless. Olivia Palermo looks cute, my problem is with those ugly, clunky grey shoes. And I am so over Balmain! I am ready for the next thing. And Julia needs to keep those tights on she does not have the legs to carry Balmain. Everyone is- Agreed!

    • Fashion Critic June 16, 2009 at 17:21 #

      Oops.

On both your Michelle and Julia. I didn’t want to say it but I guess you did ;)

  10. Gasp June 16, 2009 at 16:33 #

Olivia Palermo shoes are by Topshop (PASSION FRILL SANDALS, available online)! Anyway, I love her dress..

    • Fashion Critic June 16, 2009 at 17:19 #

      Thanks.

      I updated the post.

Those are nice heels close up.

  11. mol June 16, 2009 at 18:28 #

Olivia Palermo’s dress is so pretty, but you’re right F.C., the fit doesn’t work on her figure. Love the shoe choice though.

  12. GossipLicious June 16, 2009 at 18:44 #

I do actually love Lake Bell’s look. True, a hint of rouge on her lips would of add a lot but I love the misterios look on a misterious womman like her.

I swear I don’t mean to be rude but The Willis Girls… what can I say, they are not beautiful, not stylish, not elegant, not fashionistas, not actresses, not dancers, I mean, just because they are Bruce and Demi’s girls we are not suppose to see them everywhere (or are we?) and their bad taste attached.

Michelle has some junk on the trunk for that (agggggggggggg sooooo bored) outfit, Palermo = Blah, Julia is beautiful but that dress is too much dress on his simplicity, you either wear it as it is, with drapes and all or you don’t, agree on the black tights banning, see, unlike Agyness that will be a dress to rock it with a good pair of boots.

    • Raquel June 16, 2009 at 19:06 #

I hate to say this, but I agree, the Willis girls don’t have mom’s beauty or daddy’s charisma., or even a mix of both. Those girls lack style… even a bad style.

  13. Raquel June 16, 2009 at 19:04 #

Lake – What really scazres me there is the hair. It’s beyond awful. The dress is so big and so bold that she needs perfectly combed hair put in a small chignon.

Julia – She doesn’t have the legs for short dresses? How so?? She has great legs, IMO.

  14. ramona June 16, 2009 at 21:28 #

i think that Diane Kruger in Jason Wu was best dressed at CFDA Awards. And Megan Fox is more than amazing!!!she is the most beautiful woman ever!!!!!

  15. zoe June 16, 2009 at 22:51 #

agyness doesn’t look that bad. and on the plus side, her makeup is amazing!

memo to olivia palermo and diane kruger. STOP IT. STOP IT. just !@#$%&* stop it with that school marm hair style.

    • Fashion Critic June 16, 2009 at 22:58 #

      LOL :)

When did this style become so hip?

  16. Lala/S-R June 17, 2009 at 03:25 #

HAHA. You’re always so hard on Aggy, FC. What gives?

    • Fashion Critic June 17, 2009 at 09:27 #

She seems to let us Brits down by looking so scruffy.

      • Lala/S-R June 17, 2009 at 23:56 #

I didn’t know you were British!!?? Well I’ll be damned. I could have scorn on my life you were American. I don’t know why. I’m very jealous, by the way! More so if you have a British accent. I think I was suppose to be British. LOL
I understand what you mean, she has made some very bad fashion choices in her years. It’s usually a HIT or MISS with her lately. I still think she’s incredible though.

  17. Kin June 18, 2009 at 13:19 #

Agyness is just trying way too hard to stand out now! That’s just a careless ensemble.

  18. whitestroke June 20, 2009 at 20:38 #

    Agyness Deyn – I don’t think it’s THAT bad. I don’t even know… *shakes head*

I think Lake Bell’s outfit is alright. Maybe I just can’t get over the fact that lovely dress is wasted like this so I’m trying to like it.

I don’t get Olivia Palermo’s choice either. You know I’m the one who doesn’t really care about big cleavage, but that’s exactly why she should have gone for something that works for her small chest better, and God knows there’s a whole lot of dresses out there that suit her figure perfectly.

To be honest, I can’t focus on ANYTHING that any of the Willis sisters are wearing because I can’t get past their chins.

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld – *rolls eyes* Seriously.
