The First Ladies of fashion met again this weekend at the D-Day landing memorial ceremony in France.

Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, both wore white belted dresses, and kitten heels.

We are, but shouldn’t be, surprised by this fashionable synchronization, because the last time they met, they both wore pussy bow coats.

Carla as we would expect, opting for her favourite fashion house, Dior, wearing a cap-sleeve dress. Whilst Michelle opted for a optic white nylon crepe Narciso Rodriguez dress.

The press has been quick to condemn the ladies, for wearing such a light colour for a sombre occasion, which is quite ridiculous.

That’s funny because I thought they were wearing pink dresses from this photo: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/8087107.stm maybe it was just the lighting? I don’t think it’s a sombre occasion at all, surely it’s a celebration of D-Day? Although I prefer Michelle’s silver accessories over Carla’s black, I do think that Michelle’s belt is a bit big and chunky. I wish the Queen had been there, I wonder if she would have worn something white to match?

Indeed, white, in some cultures, is the “color” of mourning, as it represents the absence of color.

what no cardigan! wow, i love michelle but i was expecting her to wear a cardigan. carla looks absolutely stunning so does michelle.

but really kitten heels again *rolls eyes*. no doubt michelle is wearing jimmy choo as she seems to have been wearing alot of their shoes.

I think the white is a lovely idea for the occasion since when I saw it, I immediately associated with the colour for peace. I think it’s extremely appropriate for a D-Day memorial service.

Plus, they both look fantastic. Although I too prefer Michelle. I think her outfit looks more personalised but Carla is as always, lovely.

It is silly that they harped on color. It is more of a celebration of freedom than a day of mourning. When the men that lost their lives so long ago it is more about thanking them and celebrating what they accomplished than grieving their loss. I think both ladies look lovely. Although I do wish Michelle’s belt was thiner and a little lower.

It’s been reported that Michelle is wearing a Narciso Rodriguez coat, Micheal Kors dress, Givenchy belt, and of course her favourite Jimmy Choo Lantern heels. I also loved the outfit she wore earlier that day..a Rick Owens washed leather vest with a matching Rick Owens t-shirt..always with her Lanvin sneakers. I love this woman..she can go from cool & edgy to chic and sophisticated without making any efforts ^.^

That reported started with the Daily Telegraph and everyone else picked up on it, but it’s incorrect.

She was definitely wearing a Narciso Rodriguez dress with Jimmy Choo heels.

    No cardigan, ay!

I love both dresses, they look appropriated, chic and I don’t see the problem with wearing white.

But I don’t like Carla black heels and belt. Too chunky.

Ok, Bruni seriously need to DITCH those kitten-heels. It’s such a shame! Michelle’s heels are only a bit higher, but much better.

Carla wins this one hands down. If they thought white was inappropraite, what about white with an oversized silver belt? SO bad!

I find the metallic belt ‘forced’ on this outfit michelle is wearing. i think she needs to allow for the tailoring to show sometimes, but i get the sense that she clinches her waist to make her silhouette appear a certain way. im tiring this look. carla looks briliant.

humm… that silver belt is a little bit heavy and placed too high, which makes her look fat with a huge butt. I am devasted
