2009 Cannes Film Festival – “Vengeance” Premiere

I waited a week for a Valentino gown to grace the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, then two come along at once.

We haven’t seen Evangeline Lilly on the red carpet since the Emmy Awards, back in September 2008 but she hasn’t lost any of her sparkle.

We are more use to seeing The Lost actress covered in dirt running through a jungle, but she looked stunning opting for a backless lace Valentino Spring 2009 Couture embroidered gown with cut out panels.

The hem modified from the runway, but it doesn’t diminish her gown in anyway.

Hopefully we will get to see more from the newly appointed L’Oreal ambassador.

Many of you felt disappointed when Eva Longoria wore your favourite Atelier Versace gown on the red carpet last week.

I can now sympathize because I had booked marked this Armani Privé Spring 2009 black sequined dress for Cate Blanchett, but it was worn by Isabelle Huppert.

The shorten hem takes away some of the magic of this dress, but Isabelle was right to do this. The longer version would’ve suited Cate better, because she’s so tall and statuesque.

All that said I love neckline.

Judge Shu Qi arrived wearing bubble gum pink strapless Valentino Pre-Fall 2009 gown with a bow detail on her side.

That’s 4 Valentino gowns in 1 evening. I am not worthy.

Tan Zhuo opted for silver t-bar heels with her shimmering champagne Roberto Cavalli Resort 2009 flapper dress.

Robin Wright Penn wore a black Narciso Rodriguez gown with a criss-cross detail on her back.

You may remember Jennifer Aniston wore this same dress in red,on the cover of the Vogue US December 2008 issue.

The forever elegant Kristin Scott Thomas arrived wearing a navy tiered Lanvin gown.

Her finishing touches of a chic up ‘do, drop earrings, and black clutch, perfected her look.

Asia Argento opted for a navy blue tiered strapless Roberto Cavalli gown with a stunning necklace.

I’m on the fence with Michelle Yeoh strapless nude Roberto Cavalli gown.

I’m just not sure if all that embroidered detail on the bust is too busy for such a neutral gown.

Laetitia Hallyday wore a fabulous Dolce & Gabbana tulle mermaid hem gown, unfortunately we have seen this gown too many times before.

I don’t know what is it with me, but I don’t find anything special about Evangeline in Valentino either. I think I’m kind of over those uber-classic looks.

All the pictures of Michelle Ye were from a very long distance at this premier.

I wouldn’t have done her any justice featuring her with a badly blurred picture.

    i loved reading this entry!

evangeline looks fab, but i'm not too keen on that valentino dress. it's definitely not ugly…but i just don't love it. so it's just ok for me. she doesn't look pretty as always though, her face is so nice.

i LOVE isabelle huppert in this dress. she looks amazing. the dress looks like it is an intricate ink splattering. it's very wonderfully made.

robin looks good. she's wearing black though.

asia argento looks BEAUTIFUL! i love when women wear their hair down with strapless gowns and a necklace and still look elegant. it can be very hard to pull off. she looks perfect!

    shu qi is so cute.

ok…out of ALLLLLLL the times we've seen that d&g dress, this is the time it was worn best–by laetitia hallyday. she looks so elegant, statuesque, chic and posh.

i really love michelle yeoh in her dress, she looks stunning. what i don’t like is her earrings, but can only see them in close-up pictures, but they’re really tacky IMO.

Kristin Scott Thomas!!!! I looove her, and I agree, forever elegant, ALWAYS elegant. Frankly, IMO, she is one of the most elegant women ever.

I really like Isabelle and the dress suits her. The shoes and the neckline are gorgeous and she pull it off. She rocks the dress and Cate can still wear the longer version. It’s the kind of dress that needs a woman with personality both Isabelle and Cate have that in spades.

Robin IS bland. No amount of couture will change that.

Evangeline and Asia look fresh and young and like they are ready to have some good fun there.

evangeline, DAMN! im glad she didnt have that strange hem, it looks nicer without it. the dress is smokin hot, although im not sure her shoes fit because by the looks of it her little toe seems to have disappeared.

isabelle, i like the shoes that all i can say really. i would have prefer cate to have wore this.

tan, i love this dress! but it doesnt really seem like a cannes style dress, although she wears it well, only thing is the bowl cut not good.

robin, *yawn* boring, she needs colour!

kristin, i am in love. its all perfect!

asia, i adore the dress and the nacklace… but i wish she had her hair up though to show of the gorgeous necklace.

shu, its a little plain but least it is a nice colour.

michelle, i love the dress although i thik the embroidery is a little too much a less obvious colour would have been nice.

laetitia, wow this is boring. seriously i am sick of seeing god damn dolce and gabbana mermain gowns on the red carpet.

i know what you mean, the dress would have been amazing on cate….shame…
however, i have to say that i love the nude gown on michelle yeoh. makes it more interesting and she pulls it off nicely…

Evangeline, Isabelle, Robin and especially Michelle looks exquisite. I am in love with Michelle Yeoh’s look, I think the gown is amazing. Do you know who made it?

Its funny that you said she looks like Blake Lively since in her new film “The Private Life of Pippa Lee” Blake plays a younger version of her

Evangeline Lilly is sooo beautiful and that dress perfectly suits her.

  15. Camilla May 18, 2009 at 13:35 #

Robin Wright Penn reminds me of Blake Lively in her Versace at the met gala in the lefthand picture you feature.

    Like, quite a lot.

Isabelle’s Parisian elegance pulls off the dress quite niceley.

Cate Blanchette will come out with better.
