Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: April 2009

Before Beyonce Knowles left the US to start her world tour, she popped by the Today Show, to talk to Matt Lauer about music, her new film Obsessed, and she also took the stage for a live performance of her hit single Halo.

The singer-actress wore a very lady-like Tadashi Shoji Fall 2009 satin dress, with a draped shoulder in desert blossom.

The gorgeous dress was worn without the jeweled detail on the shoulder, and without the black sash around the waist, which were both present on the runway.

She wore her dress with black patent YSL Trib Two’s, and I think this look was a great way for B to end a fantastic week.

This was obviously the weekend to get hitched.

After Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt eloped five months ago, to marry in an intimate ceremony in Mexico, Heidi got her big fairytale white wedding day on Saturday.

The reality TV star opted for a stunning Monique Lhuiller Spring 2009 bridal gown.

The strapless silk organza gown, had a jeweled detail on the empire-waist, and peacock feathered design, which know doubt blew her husband away.

She wore her gown with ivory Christian Louboutin Bow T Dorcet heels, which are barely seen in the picture above, and a stunning Neil Lane jeweled cuff, which complimented the detail on her dress.

Regardless what I think of their antics, she looked gorgeous.

Before the big day, the couple headed to the Penthouse Suite at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel for their rehearsal dinner.

Heidi wore a Stella McCartney Spring 2009 LBD, with Christian Louboutin Scarpe platform slingbacks, whilst carrying a large lemon Nancy Gonzalez crocodile clutch.

Ravashing In Red/Best Dressed Award
Patsy Kensit gives Louise Redknapp and Michelle Ryan a masterclass on how to wear a red gown.

The mermaid Dolce & Gabbana gown, with a pleated train, and floral corsage detail at the waist, was so exquisite that Patsy was Best Dressed at this event for me.

Best International Award - despite being born in the UK
Although Mischa Barton brought a touch of Hollywood to this UK awards do yesterday, she wore one of our London based designers.

Her floor-length long-sleeved gown was from the Osman Yousefzada Fall 2009 collection.

I love the gold turtle-neckline, but it would have been nice had she wore her hair back so we could have got the full effect of the detail.

Best Maternity Award
If I didn’t already know Tess Daly was pregnant, I would never have guessed.

Her 3.1 Phillip Lim ruffle-front shift dress, does a very good job of disguising her baby bump.

The radiant mum-to-be wore her dress with a black clutch, gold bangle, and tribal inspired Jimmy Choo Serena strappy sandals.

Best Use Of Accessories Award
Miranda Raison dove grey dress is gorgeous, but what I love about this look the most is the pink shimmering belt she paired with the dress. Without it, I think this dress would have looked so plain.

Best Embellishments Award
Hannah Murray grey tights work better with her Collette Dinnigan Fall 2008 silver dress with a feather detail on the skirt.

You may remember that Fearne Cotton wore this same dress to the National Television Awards last year.

On Trend Award
Liz McClarnon doesn’t usually do elegant, but that is how she presented herself yesterday in the colour of the season: nude.

Her asymmetrical gown, with pretty flower embellishment was definitely the right choice for her.

Best Use Of Colour Award
Davina Mccall wore a cobalt blue draped gown. I love the detail on the front, and how she didn’t over accessorize her look.

I love that she opted for a lilac clutch, instead of a predictable black clutch.

Sexy Back Award
The lace trend maybe over, but that didn’t stop Lisa Maxwell wearing this lace backless gown, with a bow detail on the front.

Summertime Floral Award
The way our British summer time is going; glorious sunshine yesterday, rain today. Lucy Benjamin did well to give her floral Matthew Williamson silk lamé dress an airing.

Lord knows when she’ll get to wear it again.

High Fashion Award
Jamie Winstone gave us some high-fashion wearing black Chanel Pre-Fall 2009 dress, with jeweled brooches, and strappy metallic sandals. Hot pink lips complete the look.

You’re Never Too Old To Be Fabulous Award
The grand dames of British Television were not to be out done by their younger counterparts.

Barbara Windsor and June Brown aka Peggy Mitchell and Dot Cotton from Eastenders, looked sensational. Barbara wore a black gown, with a sheer yoke, that tastefully shows off her cleavage.

For me June looks outstanding. First off, I LOVE her hair like this. Secondly her cream skirt suit with embellished jacket is sublime.

Attention Seeker/Worst Dressed Award
Elize du Toit had a fight with some BacoFoil and lost. Miserably.

Does anyone else find it ironic, that there appears to be a banana skin at her feet?

Stop Trying So Hard To Be Cool/Get Over Yourself Award
Why Alexa Chung is considered a style icon, I will never understand. Yes she has moments of brilliance, but then don’t we all.

Her Luella Fall 2009 dress is not the issue, more the disheveled way she presents herself.

Opaque Tights? In this Weather? Award
On one of the hottest days of the year in London, Kaya Scodelario really could have done without the tights, as it totally ruins her cute golden Collette Dinnigan Fall 2008 mini cocktail dress.

Silver or gold strappy sandals would have made the world of difference.

Worst Cover Up/Worst Red Award
I really like Louise Redknapp, but I really dislike her red Sonia Rykiel Spring 2009 gown.

Sorry did I say gown? I meant tent, which does nothing for her.

Yes she recently had a baby back in November, but I have seen her a few times since, and she has a fantastic figure, and shouldn’t feel the need to cover up so much.

Her look is complete with a beige gold studded clutch.

Most Uncomfortable Award
Michelle Ryan another star who wore a red gown which just didn’t work for me

From the waist down, it’s a fabulous Donna Karan gown, but it feels so constricted around the upper arms. She would have had to walk around with her arms by her side all day.

Love The Dress, Hate The Hair Award
Jenni Falconer wore a teal gown from Ashley Isham’s Fall 2008 collection, which I really love, but I’m so tired of her same old hairstyle.

She has been in TV for about 7/8 years now, and the length, colour, cut has always been the same.

Salma Hayek and her husband, French billionaire François-Henri Pinault, had their second wedding this weekend.

People.com reported that Salma wore a Balenciaga wedding gown by Nicholas Ghesquiere for the actual ceremony, as she exchanged vows with Pinault, at the Venice opera house La Fenice. The bride wore her hair in a bun with a long veil, held a bouquet of orchids and stephanotis with crystals.

Her guests included Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Ashley Judd, Antonio Banderas and wife Melanie Griffith, Woody Harrelson, Edward Norton Ziyi Zhang, Philippe Starck, Stella McCartney, Lily Cole, Anna Wintour and former French President Jacques Chirac.were looking fabulous too.

Salma’s BFF Penelope Cruz arrived with her gorgeous beau Javier Bardem.

Penelope wore a Caribbean blue Gucci Spring 2009 one-sleeved gown, with gold strappy sandals, and a matching clutch.

I love Penelope here, she looks so relaxed and fresh faced.

Charlize Theron arrived wearing a Christian Dior Spring 2009 slate grey halter-neck dress, but by the time she left the dress was considerably shorter.

Either she did a quick change inside the venue, or possibly many people stepped on her gown forcing her to shorten it. Either way she looks fabulous, even with the mask.

Frida Giannini appears to have taken some tips from Donatella Versace, by modifying her Gucci Fall 2009 mini dress, into a gown for this special occasion.

Her Trib Two lookie-likie platform heels were also from her Gucci Fall 2009 collection.

Anna Wintour arrived wearing the same black and white Chanel Spring 2009 Couture dress, she’d worn earlier this year to the Extreme Beauty In Vogue Party.

I love that she is not afraid to wear the same thing twice, but I would have preferred to have seen her in something different.
